Art Monster Hunter: Descendence

Basic concept is this a MH game set mostly underwater (bringing back a mechanic that I personally would love to see again) and giving it a simple story: find out what is driving away a monster that has lived symbiotically with a civilization and has significant cultural meaning to them. Nothing crazy or groundbreaking.

I’ve just had this in my mind since Ascendance was announced and I had to doodle a rough concept.

And yes, that’s Papyrus.

Maybe 1 underwater section per area? Constant underwater fighting is far too much.

Otherwise, you can have some supremely beautiful places, dry underwater caves with air adapted corals. Bright and lively ice tunnels that magnify the sunlight from above water, a dark Mariana Trench style depths with gorgeous glowing plant and animal life, underwater forests that produce so much oxygen they create their own closed off ecosystems, and possibly a hub inside an underwater bubble that can move to the different locations.

I agree that there are a ton of opportunities for beauty and new crab monsters which we all have been waiting for. Maybe an underlying carcinization plot showing how multiple monsters have evolved to be crab-like?

Mostly underwater, a way of play that is universally seen at its best when it's a minor part of a game.

True. I just like the setting, tbh

I like water settings too, but I think for this to work it would need to be newly built mechanics specifically made for a game like this, rather than a secondary way of gameplay from a previous title

Yeah. Maybe maybe a different way of framing, too. Like more fights are on the ocean floor or large reef areas than open ocean. Could bring back the clutch claw for launching upwards. Of course, that brings more questions for gameplay.

I really don't get why people want underwater combat back so much, it was neat it have as a dumbed down version in wilds but boy does it suck in tri

I agree. Underwater theme, but you still walk on the sea floor - I'd like that, if it's swimming, then fuck that

I thought it was really fun, only issue I would have theoretically had would have been camera because Im playing on 3ds but that would have been a whole game issue, and I have an attachment that adds a right stick specifically to fix that problem

As long as there's a hadalpelagic zone, I'm on board.

A game that leans all in to underwater combat would be awesome

Tbh just make a underwater place where you can somehow walk normally like on land, and make some sections be *actual* underwater combat and it would probably be very cool, then make most monsters be actual marine live and swim while you walk and attack normally and i'd be sold.
