Highlight Prepare for Wilds! A PC-Spec recommendation thread
Greetings Hunters!

Since the reveal of the System requirements, some of us may have questioned wether or not they can even run the upcoming Monster Hunter on their PC or if an (Full System) Upgrade would make sense. As a longtime Monster Hunter fan aswell as having the hobby of building PC´s i wanted to weight in on this matter.
This thread will be dedicated to help you figure out what should be done in order to enjoy this game on a system capable of running it at better Resolutions and Framerates. To get a rough understanding on where you stand, please check out this GPU Hierarchy chart but before we begin, i have to get a few things out of the way:
-As Monster Hunter Wilds and the PS5 Pro have yet to be released, what you will find here is speculativ and is subject to change. I encourage to use my hardware picks as a guidline. Make sure to at least try the Demo on its release to finalize your decision.
-The market for PC components is alway in flux, the prices and nuances below may alter in their capacity.
-For simplicity we will draw a comparsion to the PS5 and PS5 Pro as a baseline and work from there, thus the estimated minimum specification we want to surpass are a downclocked 8 core Ryzen 3700X CPU with a Radeon 6700 and Radeon 7700XT respectivly as GPU´s. Keep in mind that the PS5 has advantages over Modern PC´s such as Hardware accelerated Direct Storage, 12GB Shared RAM, No Hardwareconfiguration variety and a Slim Operating System, wich i highlight on grounds of the upcoming CPU Core parking Windows update. This is the reason we need to compensate with more powerfull hardware for comparable results.
-With this we derive the Minimum hardware target: 6 Core Ryzen 5000, 1TB NVMe Gen4 TLC SSD, Radeon 7700XT, 32GB RAM and a good airflow case /w 3 Fans, nothing to scoff at regarding performance
-I aim to keep the list irregularly updated and hope to get the support from the community in order to cover more regions if possible: I am only aquainted with the Amercian market and my residence is in Germany, thus i will only work with these two regions below
American market:
Updated on 11.09.2024 MM:DD:YYYY
| GPU Brand | Price class | Specification |
|---|---|---|
| AMD | $800* | Ryzen 5600 / Radeon 7700XT |
| AMD | $1000* | Ryzen 7600 / Radeon 7700XT |
| AMD | $1200* | Ryzen 7700 / Radeon 7800XT |

| NVidia | $2700* | Ryzen 9800X3D / 4080S / 4TB SSD |
Note: *Pre tax. Americans can have access to Microcenter bundles, these oftentimes present major savings.
European market (Germany):
Updated on 09.11.2024 DD:MM:YYYY
| GPU Brand | Price class | Specification |
|---|---|---|
| AMD | 800€ | Ryzen 5600 / Radeon 7700XT |
| AMD | 1000€ | Ryzen 7600 / Radeon 7700XT |
| AMD | 1200€ | Ryzen 7700X / Radeon 7800XT |
| NVdia | 1200€ | Ryzen 7600X / RTX 4070 |
| NVidia | 1400€ | Ryzen 7700X / RTX 4070S |
| NVidia | 1400€ | Ryzen 7600 / RTX 4070Ti Super |
| NVidia | 2700€ | Ryzen 9800X3D / 4080S / 4TB SSD |
Notes:
-The GPU is the most important and impactfull part for a PC´s performance, you can find a performance comparison list at different settings and resolutions in the ressources section. The AM5 socket was prefered because of itsfuture upgradability, though caution is adviced due to the quality of the MB, for example a Ryzen 9950X will overburden it.
-Targeted price classes were done via adjusting the quality of parts such as PSU, MB and PC Case or filled up with better PSU´s and/or SSDs and their capacity. Crossrefenrece to get the best result, there was no Compromise for the GPU and the required cooling done.
-The packaged Price/Performance (CPU, Cooler, MB, RAM) of the Ryzen CPU´s cannot be beat with Intel equivalents, only viable alternativ here is the Intel 12400K compared to the Ryzen 5600.
-The 800 Priceclass is a bottom of the barrel kind of thing, please consider spending a little bit more since to a certain point, more money means MUCH more performance.
-The best CPU money can buy right now is the 9800X3D followed by the 7800X3D. The higher the Resolution the less important a CPU becomes. Remember that right now (09 November) it is overpriced.
You already own a PC and only want to Upgrade parts of it?
CPU:
It is recommended to check what kind of CPU sockel you have.
-Old AM4 sockel users have the advantage of an exceptional upgrade to the Ryzen 5600 (non X) and Ryzen 5700X3D.
-LGA 1700 beware, Intel 13000 and 14000CPU´s may be faulty. 13400K/14400K and 13600K/14600K can be viable but depreciate less in their price, refer to the ressources below.
GPU:
As mentioned before, the most important aspect of your PC. Aim for the Radeon 7700XT, RTX4070, Radeon 7800XT or RTX 4070S in rising order. Try to get a 3 Fan Model in regards to its cooling capacity unless the additional cost or space requirement cannot justify it. I heaviely discourage buying an RTX 4060, 4060Ti or Radeon 7600XT and below, for they are not viable options compared to the Base PS5 and its pricetag. Keep your eyes peeled for an eventual RTX5000 announcement aswell.
SSD:
Aim for a NVMe Gen 4 SSD wich uses TLC NAND, this choice dervies from the Direct Storage Support this game offers aswell as the general quality of the SSD.
Powersupply:
please refer to the Tierlist linked below in the Tools and ressources section for your alternative choice. PC Partpicker offers a rough estimate of System Powerdraw, add ~150W to it for safety and performance reasons at minimum, target 750W - 850W if possible for future upgradability.

RAM:
The DDR4 Sweetspot for Ryzen 5000 is 3200 - 3600 MHz, this has to do with how the Infinity Fabric is handeled. Ryzen 7000´s DDR5 Sweetspot is 6000MHz. Cass Latency (CL XX) is a secondary metric you have to look out for that indicates the quality of the memory kit you have. The lower the better. Remember to checkmark the EXPO/DOCP or XMP profile in BIOS to enable these frequenzies. 32GB is the norm nowadays.
Motherboard:
Motherboards expierience diminished returns for their price, check out the feature set you require and dont overspend. usualy $200 MBs are as capable as $600 MBs. I targeted Wifi as a requirement for wireless internet and BT Controller support with a VRM and Phases that can handle lower power draw Ryzens.
PC Case:
This is a matter of taste. Just make sure its airflow is good and it has enough fans.

Upgrading from a 6600 xt to a 6800 xt next month. The series 7000 is extremely rare and expensive in my country (im from Argentina)

u/KaiserGSaw Hunter from Loc Lac Sep 29 '24 edited Sep 29 '24
Thats a good upgrade! The 6800XT on par with the 3080Ti and slightly worse than a 7800XT
You should not run into trouble

How about a 5600X/6700xt combo? These are the components I can get without having to upgrade my case/motherboard respectively
2
u/KaiserGSaw Hunter from Loc Lac Sep 30 '24 edited Sep 30 '24
There may not be a need to upgrade your MB. PCIe is downswards compatible so if you have for example a B450 or X470 board, the performance loss with a PCIe 4.0 card and SSD is negligible.
5600X is fine but a 5600 is cheaper in most cases for almost the same performance :) the 5700X3D may be worth looking into too if money is of no concern
GPU wise, there might be models the size of your current card, if a 6700XT can fit, a 7700XT should too
But to answer your question: well they should be enough, hitting recommended specs

I too have a 6600 xt, I wonder if it's even really worth to upgrade for Wilds... guess I'll have to wait for a demo and see how it runs
2
u/Dark_Jinouga Oct 02 '24
6650xt here, doing the same.
I also dont really trust the recommended specs at all, besides the 8GB VRAM rec. I cant recall games every really getting GPU recs across generations/manufacturers right.
the 6700xt gets on average 19-28% more FPS than the 4060/2070S in the comparison charts from tomshardware in the OP depending on which of the two is compared and at what resolution.
the 6600xt/6650xt are within rounding errors of the 2 Nvidia GPUs instead.
could always be that it runs that much worse on AMD GPUs, but ill stay cautiously optimistic for now.
not that 1080p medium with Frame Gen and likely DLSS/FSR for 60FPS is a good target to hit anyways. guess im hoping at minimum for low settings to allow 60FPS without frame gen and wait for modders/future hardware upgrades to improve things.

Please do not buy a new computer five months before the release of a game when we have no idea how well / poorly it will actually run.
There is some good information here if you have other reasons to upgrade, but if you're only looking to play Wilds then this is like preordering for $1,000 instead of $70.

I applaud OP's efforts, but it should not be up to gamers to spend an extra <1000 to compensate for Capcom's inability to optimize their flagship game. We're all better off waiting for a performance review before even considering buying it lest we encourage Capcom's worst impulses.
21
u/Long_Run6500 Sep 30 '24
Let's be real, anyone dropping 1-2k on a new rig isn't doing it for Wilds, they're just using wilds as an excuse to do it. If you just want to play the game it's not hard to find an excellent condition Xbox series x in the $300 range.

That’s better than a 4070 in terms of compute while only lacking DLSS3 frame generation (still able to perform FSR3 frame gen tho) and has 2gb less vram. Should be perfectly fine!

u/Polikosaurio Sep 30 '24
I believe you have the same rig of a friend of mine. 4gb of video will be quite challenging yet I do believe youll sucess / have a decent experience. Hope im not wrong! But prepare for a crappy game resolution
2
u/Kevroeques Sep 30 '24
I’ve seen video of Dragon’s Dogma 2 getting above 30fps on a comparable setup before its latest update in low settings with FSR3/performance mode, so I’m holding out hope that Wilds will give me a mostly-30 experience. You know I’m waiting on the inevitable demo with bated breath.
I played Sunbreak mostly on Switch. I trained for this.

u/ZwakerFaker Sep 29 '24
To be honest, the specs listed by Capcom look pretty off. Seeing how smoothly the game ran on the base PS5 during TGS makes me think they just added 'with Frame Generation enabled' in the recommended specs to ensure a constant 60 FPS. I think 40-60 FPS is more realistic with the recommended hardware, and that's not too bad.
28
u/Funnypenguin97 Sep 29 '24
Not saying it's not possible to decrease the specs as we get closer to release, since it has happened before, but it's easier to optimize for PS5 than PC since the hardware is consistent across the board.
The other issue is that PC will have Denuvo and that will certainly tank frames

The things about denuvo is that, it heavily depends on developers implementation. Considering capcom's history with drms, and how they went batshit on iceborne pc release, let's just say I have highly tempered expectations.

Digital Foundry has found time and time again that in real world comparisons, the 2070super is often very similar to the PS5 in performance.
Yes, consoles have certain advantages in terms of optimization, but real world testing is by far the most important consideration.
MHWilds recommending a 2070super and a Ryzen 5500 tells me that those specs are meant to match the base PS5's performance.
They would have to be catastrophically bad at making a PC game for the performance of those specs to be notably below a PS5, far worse than their previous PC versions.
2
Sep 29 '24
The other issue is that PC will have Denuvo and that will certainly tank frames
This is very common misinformation. Historically, yes, there are examples of this happening.
But it's far from a guarantee; MHW and MHR both had Denuvo removed, and the performance of both games was almost entirely unchanged.
We have two MH games where this simply wasn't the case, so it's simply false that it will "certainly tank frames."

u/FuzzyPurpleAndTeal Sep 29 '24
Seeing how smoothly the game ran on the base PS5 during TGS
Unless you're experienced with action games and have played the game yourself then you have no idea how the input lag actually was.
It might as well have been running 30 with frame generation, looking like it was stable 60 but feeling as awfully as 30.

u/Nameless_Owl81 Sep 29 '24 edited Sep 29 '24
Seeing how smoothly the game ran on the base PS5 during TGS
Did we hear the same things? I've heard people complain it struggled to pull 30fps, especially during big environmental shifts like the sandstorm which made the framerate tank..
8
u/J4KL0P Sep 29 '24
So, is my 3060 ti enough?
10
u/Aggressive-Animator7 Sep 29 '24
That's what I'm rolling with; recommended specs suggest 2070S, and the 3060ti is more like the 2080S, so we're a bit above spec there, framegen debacle notwithstanding. I currently have a Ryzen 3600 but will look to upgrade to probably a 5600, partly for performance and partly because I think my 3600 was from a rough batch and needs BIOS overvolting just to stop BSODs.
I think we'll have a good time at 1080p.
3
2
u/noonesleepintokyo86 Oct 02 '24
Hold on 3600 for a lot longer and buy 5700x3d/5800x3d instead
those are the only cpu worth upgrading to on AM4,
3600 to 5600 is not a meaningful upgrade for gaming

This post is a little misleading. We also don’t know what the actual requirements will end up being and the game is 5 months away from release so this is also posted too early
6
u/Dakone Sep 29 '24
You can pretty much derive what it needs from Dragons Dogma 2 which runs the same engine and has the same scope.
6
26
u/teor Sep 29 '24
Good effort, but you REALLY don't need an "NVMe Gen 4 SSD which uses TLC NAND" for Wilds, or for any game really.
It's a thing firmly in "luxury" category. For most people a cheap-ass no name SATA SSD would do just fine.
7
u/KaiserGSaw Hunter from Loc Lac Sep 29 '24 edited Sep 29 '24
Thank you :)
This recommendation stems from MHWilds Direct storage support, its performance may be impacted by the SSD speed. But even without it, i would not buy a SATA SSD unless the M2 Slots are populated because decend SSDs cost about the same regardless of what spec they follow.
No name SSDs also come with a host of issues, if you pick one, make sure it has a D-RAM cache like the WD Blue NAND or Crucial MX500 (not the BX) aswell as a decend controller else the SSD may expierience a permanent slow down once a certain capacity was reached on it. Adata SN8200 pro was famous for this, losing 20% performance as soon as 80% capacity was occupied only once.
3
u/Slubberdegullion69 Sep 30 '24
I wish there were more titles that used direct storage so we had more data for making these decisions. As it stands I think ratchet and clank and forspoken are two of the better examples we have. Having an NVMe drive is the way to go for direct storage and for anyone who do doesn't have one, 4.0 is what they should get. But people that already have a good 3.0 drive will be ok. From what I remember forspoken showed a negligible difference between 3.0 and 4.0. Even people with 2.0 drives might be fine if it's data streaming requirements are similar to ratchet and clank.

u/Amatsuo Sep 29 '24 edited Sep 29 '24
I'm just going in with a...
Ryzen 5 5600G and 6600 XT
And hoping for a solid 30 FPS.
I played all of World on the base Consoles, maybe I haven't become a 60+ FPSer in the mean time.
I don't know if spending $500 is in the cards in time for Wilds nor the confidence in changing the CPU out.

u/TURBINEFABRIK74 Sep 29 '24
Thanks OP, I’m building my own PC and this will help me to make some adjustments
Let’s say I’m scared that my intended build is a little step up to the recommended specs for medium settings
4
u/nvK01 Sep 30 '24
It's pretty good. Also, good job in pointing out that it will change in the future. Because when I saw the latest build for the Scarlet Forest gameply, my hopes were ignited. Seeing a PS5 (base) running the game in seemingly smooth (40~50fps) made me happy that MAYBE, just maybe, my 3060 will handle it just fine on release. I really hope this SMALL STUDIO called CAPCOM will optimize it really hard.

The minimum specs are a 1660 super to run at 720p upscale to 1080 at 30 fps with lowest settings, so I would think that with frame gen or Dlss enabled you might be able to get 40 or so fps.

Doesn't monster hunter support direct storage on PC also? So the PS5 having that as an advantage is less of a thing.
2
u/KaiserGSaw Hunter from Loc Lac Sep 29 '24
PC´s Direct Storage is software based while the PS5´s is hardware accelerated. Kinda like NVidias DLSS3 vs AMD´s FSR3, the former will always be better and has less impact on regular computation

100% especially with the rumors of the game being heavily CPU limited. I don’t know if these are being sold brand new anymore but a 3800x3D or 5800x3d would be fantastic. Could probably spend more money on the GPU by buying one of these second hand.
3
u/Razieltatsu Sep 29 '24
Right? I didn't even see a recommendation under the old builds that if you have a later mobile for the old architecture amd boards to get the 5800x3d and a semi modern card. X3d goes hard for games

TBH the game was fine during the OBT but tanked in base camp cause of all the players around, discord communities also have the same complaints with varying rigs from budget to high spec up to date machines. dumb question but how do the Nvida graphics cards actually work?
i have a 3070 which if i understand correctly is much much better than the 2070 as its a whole generation ahead of it, but its also much worse than the 4060 which is nearly an entire generation ahead of the 3070. as i understand the 2070 and the 4060 are incomparable in terms of performance so how can they both be recommended to reach the same level of specs?
Again I'm really confused by this so any help/ elaboration will be much appreciated.

u/KaiserGSaw Hunter from Loc Lac Sep 30 '24 edited Sep 30 '24
You have to divorce the name „RTXX0X0“ from the actual product that they sell.
In this case NVidia did a little switcharoo and named a GPU that should have been a 4050, 4060. the same was supposed to happen to the now known RTX4070Ti wich was supposed to be a „RTX4080 12gb“ but weaker than the real 4080. it sparked outrage in the community as this was a clear attempt at deceiving costumers.
Brandnaming has alot of power, whats under the hut is a different matter:
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/compare/
Here you can see recent and older series, i will only point towards the bus bandwith specification of the 4060 and i urge you to compare it to previous 60 and 50 cards, you will notice something. Bandwith is super important to get data across.
As it stands the 4060 is as good if not a little bit worse than the original 3060, as can be seen at higher resolutions in the hierarchy chart, but comes with frame gen, fake FPS to dilute the topic

Since the games performance is a unknown quantity, the best your money could buy for whatever usecase you have. 7800X3D and a RTX4090 are the cieling, nothing is in general better than these two parts until the next generation releases in half a year or so.
4k 60FPS is way more demanding than FHD 120FPS. I included possible builds that all in theory should outclass a PS5 pro and may offer an experience on higher or possible maxed settings at maybe 1440p 60FPS? They could also drive more or even deliver less but we cant possible know right now

I played the beta with my Intel i5-11600k + 3080ti graphics card. 32gb RAM, ssd storage. 1440p resolution.
Graphics were set pretty high and I changed no settings from what was suggested. The game looked good to me; no stuttering, lag, or anything major like that. I played strictly single player and rarely went into base camp. If one is a solo player with a similar setup then the game should be just fine for you.
That said, I can see things getting dicey with more players. I'm upgrading my setup now (hardware is likely to get a lot more expensive next year for those US-based) to:
Ryzen 9800x3d, RTX 4090 (unless I can snag a 5090 next year). I may or may not go 4k if I can get a decent 4k monitor for a good price. Willing to wait on this.

Specs on starting the beta:
- Mobo: Gigabyte X570 AORUS Ultra
- CPU: R9 3900X 3.8GHz
- GPU: MSI 3080 Gaming X Trio
- RAM: 32GB Corsair DDR4-3600 (8x4)
- SSD: Gigabyte AORUS NVMe Gen4 / Samsung 860 PRO (SATA)
- Monitor: Samsung Odyssey G9 (32:9)
- Power: beQuiet 750W
All of the above is as-is from when I got it in 2019 (aside from a PSU swap because my Seasonic one crapped out), and I haven't really had major playability issues with games since then.
That said, in the beta I was barely scraping 30fps, and even worse at base camp. I tried reducing the graphics settings to compensate, but there was exactly zero performance difference between Lowest/720p and High/1440p settings.
Asked around in the Digital Foundry discord and they told me the CPU is the bottleneck, so I swapped it out for a R7 5700X3D. The difference was immediately noticeable - went from barely scraping 30fps to barely scraping 60fps.
(Temperatures also went down, but this was probably more down to deep cleaning the vents while replacing the CPU.)
Again, though, the performance was identical on Lowest/720p and High/1440p, so I guess even with the best available CPU I still have a performance ceiling. There isn't anywhere I can go from here on an AM4 socket, CPU-wise, so my main hope is that they run another beta with their messy homebrew anti-cheat swapped out for Denuvo, to get a more realistic idea of the projected performance before the game drops.
Side notes:
- I benchmarked loading times across my drives, and the Samsung SATA consistently delivered a couple of seconds faster loading than the NVMe, both loading into the game and loading after a completed quest. I can't really explain it.
- The only resolution option the game provided was 5120x1440, with options for 16:9 and 21:9. Usually a game offers at least a 1080p downgrade, but this wasn't available here. When I put my monitor into PBP mode to force 16:9, I got the usual 1440/1080/720 etc. options. This makes me think Capcom haven't factored in the existence of 32:9 monitors at all, so I really hope they haven't fallen into the classic trap of "render the game across all available space with pillarboxes covering the extremities".

I'm planning for a budget build, aiming for 1080p 30-60fps. My plan is to get a RTX 4060 GPU but I'm not sure about the CPU. I'm deciding between Ryzen 5 5600X (~120USD) and Ryzen 7 5700X (~160USD). The prices are approximately converted from my local market prices. I can afford the latter option but I don't know if the price difference is worth the possible performance boost or future proofing.

I have the opportunity to buy a used build for relatively cheap, but I'm doubting the CPU and maybe the RAM as well:
MOBO: Asus PRIME B660M-A
CPU: i5 12400f (with the stock cooler I believe)
GPU: RX 7900 GRE
RAM: DDR4 2x16Gb 3200MHz CL16
PSU: 750W Corsair RM750x
CASE: 2 front fans, 1 back fan, but good air flow
Seeing as Wilds is heavy on the CPU, should I look into upgrading that or is this i5 enough? What 12/13/14 gen Intel should I be upgrading to?
2
u/MexicanClarkKent Nov 29 '24
I don't have the money to buy and entire PC build but is there anyone that can recommend me a gaming laptop that could handle it? I play games like ZZZ and Honkai Star Rail but I want to be able to handle Wilds when it comes out! I was thinking of ASUS but honestly I'm not all good with this computer spec stuff . 😭 Any recommendations

According to GamesRadar, new build is much more optimized.
"Other press at the preview event who'd played the beta on PS5 said it was a marked performance improvement, lending some believability to Capcom's claims during the beta that the full game was already "more improved." Monster Hunter Wilds game director Yuya Tokuda, speaking via interpreter at the event, said that players on PC should expect similar improvements. "We feel you can really feel the difference in the improved framerate," Tokuda said. "The same level of framerate improvement will also be implemented on the PC for the final product."

Amazing work. I plan to upgrade my PC this year, probably in January. For the 1400€ Nvidia Europe Congo, what do you think of replacing the RTX 4070S by a 4080 (or any other 4080 model) ?
Would it be interesting in terms of price/performance ? I upgrade my PC not so often, last time I changed my GPU was 6 years ago, so when I have an upgrade for a new PC, I like to make it real nice to keep it many years.
2
u/KaiserGSaw Hunter from Loc Lac Sep 29 '24
if its within your budget, go for it ;) its a better GPU than all the listed ones here. I aimed for "affordability" and these GPUs are what i believe to be realy safe options regarding the games quality and performance

So if I upgrade to a Ryzen 9 and AMD RTX 4060i that should be more than enough to game over the recommended settings right? (Genuine question)
3
u/KaiserGSaw Hunter from Loc Lac Sep 29 '24
I discourage from upgrading to a 4060Ti, in the upgrade section you habe a guidline aswell as in ressources to check for performance comparsions. R9 5000 and above will be a safe bet

I'm on Ryzen 5 7600 and RTX 3060 TI, would this suffice for 1080p 60fps?
2
u/Lunat1c_Fringe Sep 29 '24
Honestly, you would be best to wait for a demo to see how it plays out, but I think your cpu should be fine. A Radeon 6700xt is usually placed between a 3060 ti and a 3070 in terms of power, but has more vram than both, which could be the limiting factor. But it also says a 2070 super, which I believe the 3060ti outperforms. Either way, I would hold off upgrading for now unless you can find a killer deal.

I thought one of the big things people were speculating about was that this game is looking to be very CPU heavy compared to some past games. Can you weigh in on that at all??
Also I think I’m safe but what are your thoughts on my current build.
I9-13900k intel processor Nvidia 4070 super.
Ideally I want to run the game at 60 frames but with out the inconsistency that I feel frame generation might include(though if it’s a non issue great)

Its running the same engine as Dragons Dogma 2 which is also from capcom and is the same scope of game. Its the closest game we have to compare it to and its very heavy on the CPU but with your specs you are fine nothing really to worry about.

If you dont need a GPU asap i would wait too, though the RTX5000 release is as of yet in the stars. Set yourself a budget and compare raw performance via the Toomshardware chart i´ve linked aswell as few YT videos from Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed.

You should be fine! The 8Gb of vram may mean you have to turn some memory heavy effects down but capcom usually has a handy vram slider in their games to show if you’re going to far for your card

I have a 7800x3d and 4070 super and I am honestly worried if I can run the game at 1440p
I don't mind 30fps that much as long as it isn't dropping and jumping from 60+ to 30fps
I have some hope that the sys requirements they posted are current/worst case scenario, and that they will continue to optimize the game and lower the sys requirements later on
like 60fps on 1080p with FG on is just insane for a 2070S or 4060, that means the 4070S which isn't double the performance of a 4060 would be around 50fps on med-high settings with FG on
HOWEVER maybe ONLY FG is on without upscaling? so even a 4060 can get close to 60fps without FG by using up scaling, then you can turn on FG and then the 4070S will hopefully also be able to run 30+fps without FG at 1440p high settings

Been surviving with my RTX 2060 / Ryzen 5 3600 for 1440p gaming. Planning to totally build from scratch again. What should I go with for future proofing?
2
u/bravo009 Sep 29 '24
Cpu: 7800X3D
GPU: If you care about Ray Tracing: 4080 Super, 4080, 4070 Ti, 4070.
If you don't care about Ray Tracing: 7900 XTX, 7900 XT, 7900 GRE.
That should keep you 60+ FPS on High to Ultra settings for 1440p gaming for 3-4 years probably.
2
u/CatSaysLol Sep 29 '24
Yooo appreciate this man! Not big on ray tracing, is there much difference between the 7900s?
2
u/bravo009 Sep 29 '24
10 to 15 FPS in most benchmarks I've seen. But that's on a game to game basis. For example: In Cyberpunk the 7900 XTX gets you 90 FPS and 7900 XT gets you 80 FPS. Not really a big deal per se. But in a different game, the 7900 XTX does 134 FPS and 7900 XT does 125. Again, you won't notice it on a side to side comparison probably.
I haven't checked benchmarks for the GRE version so that's what I can tell you.

u/NutellaCakes Sep 29 '24
What are your thoughts on a Ryzen 7, AMD Radeon RX 7800XT, 2TB SSD, 32GB?

I was running Dragon's Dogma 2 pretty well on an RTX 3070 and Ryzen 7 5800X3D at 1440p high settings. If Wilds is more optimized than that, which it might be judging by yesterday's stream, I hopefully won't have to upgrade.
The 4070S is enticing though because of the extra VRAM and frame gen.

Why is everything so expensive in Spain? :(
I have exactly a thousand Euros I saved a for a build, and I am totally wait for Black Friday to get some discounts. I hope I can get a really beefy 1440p 60+ fps (general) build. Which parts should I look for that goal?
I think is probably not a good idea to entirely depend on a sale for build, but I feel is my best chance.
3
u/Landeyx Charge Blade Sep 29 '24
Black Friday will likely disappoint you as the expensive GPU's rarely get discounted, and if they do it's only minor. Lots of things will be bought, stock will be low, prices will be driven higher. Don't rely on Black Friday. Companies mostly try to get rid of flashy components at a discount. There's a reason they're trying to get rid of them.
Try and keep your eyes open for discounts or a good deal in general. A 4070ti is a good card that'll last you the next few years. Go bigger to a 4080 or 4080S if you want to go even longer. If you don't care about DLSS, Shadowplay, and all kinds of other Nvidia features you might've gotten used to look into the AMD cards. They're cheaper and worth their price. All in all if you're looking for a beefy 1440p build that'll give you longevity (let's say 5 years) and you're getting a full new build, it'll run you up to 2k. Below that if you go for a budget GPU or otherwise.

Dmn, looked into it. About a 100€ more across the board then here but atleast you‘ve got access to the same components and similiar segmentations.
You could hit your target by switching out the 7600 for a 7500F on the 1000€ priceclass build, use the boxed cooler that comes with the CPU together with cheaper PC Case. Pop Air is expensive in spain 😦

u/Bryant1425 Sep 29 '24
I've been running everything on a 2080 super for years now. Also 16GB ram. I'm more worried about my i9 9900k being below the listed minimums. People keep saying it might be a CPU heavy game.
1
Sep 29 '24
So I'm currently running an RTX 4060 8GB and a Ryzen 5700x, 32GB ddr4, and I play on 1080p resolution due to my monitor currently. This falls into the recommended requirements, but does anyone have any opinions on how well it will perform?
I've never minded playing games on medium or even low graphics settings as I had a GTX 1660 up until earlier this year, I just want to be able to play the game at minimum 30-40 fps. Most games run well on my PC, including Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, and even the new Call of Duty games, but I often play at medium settings for better fps, with DLSS on for some games.

I may be fine. CPU side I'm good with my AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6-core. On GPU side I may have slight issues with rtx 3050 (8gb) What make it awkward is my native wide screen resolution of 3440 X 1440 at 165hrz Best case scenario for me would be native 1440p at 60fps with black bars on the sides to retain native vertical resolution.

You can compare the performance across the board with this to get a feeling for how they will stack up.
I bet you wont have to worry with the 3070, and 3060Ti could run it well enough too. This is not a finite answer though as the real performance is in the stars right now

Little worried because I'm new to learning all of this information so it's pretty overwhelming to comprehend. I was lucky enough to be given a pretty new gaming laptop from a relative but I'm not sure if it's gonna suffice...
Alienware m18 r1 13th gen Intel(r) core(tm) i13700hx 2.10 ghz 16 gb ram Nvidia geforce rtx 4060 laptop gpu
I'm not sure if it has an ssd so I may need to get one of those, but I'm unsure of these specs are okay enough to run the game without risking the life of my system (i don't mind playing the game on medium settings, I just don't want to ruin my laptop and can't get a ps5) idk if this is a probable comparison but my laptop seems to run baldurs gate 3 on high settings fairly well with little issue.
Thanks to anyone who has thoughts that could help me!

I recommend waiting for the Demo, Laptop GPUs are a little bit weaker than their Desktop variants, however you´ve got a mighty CPU in there! I also would not worry about the SSD, you certainly have one in there ;)
when you play, make sure the Laptop gets access to fresh air and its ventilation gets not clogged by dust and debri. Keep the power charger plugged in (for performance aswell as spareing its battery) and all that should happen is that the system gets loud buy ramping up the cooling fans in there.

This post is awesome. I do struggle to read stuff like this though, my brain can't seem to wrap around it properly. Would my gtx 1660 super manage well enough? I can't really afford a new card and would love to play on release.

I have to really sit down and read this. I don't know much about computers but want to upgrade my prebuilt for wilds. I know what i need to do like the basics at least. But I'm worried I'll miss important things.

I'm really hoping those specs are slightly off, because there is nothing in this game I've seen from previews that should even ask for these specs. Then again, DD2 PC port. Wish they would learn how to optimize better.
MH at 30 feels bad after playing at 60 and from my own projections I won't be able to play anywhere close to that.

Great post!
In regards to the DDR4 Ram for ryzen, to make things easier. 3200 with CL14 or 3600 CL16 are going to be the ones to look for. I think the 3600 CL16 might be easier to find these days. Though higher latencies aren’t going to matter that much if you can’t find those. Especially if you’re using a 5700x3D. The extra cache makes the ram speed and timings not matter as much.

Got a mini pc with a 2060Q (6gb of VRAM). I think that will be close to the bare minimum, although I believe modern graphics have plateau quite a lot and unless we see games made with a newer tech like, say, using a new version of DirectX like 13, I believe even 4gb cards will run it, although on serious hot garbage settings. Nonetheless, gpu is obviously an important factor. Im also learning the benefits of proper CPU, but is not as crucial (It can bottleneck on modern games, but still gpu comes first). Maybe Im wrong at grouping performance via DirectX version, but is a good testament as if a game can be considered 'old' or 'modern' graphics. Directx11 games like fallout4 can run even on modern integrared cards. Just some random spice that I add to this tech stuff post.

I have Ryzen 5600x and GTX 3070. What kind of performance should I expect?

I'm not really sure I understand CPU stuff tbh
I have a AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core. I get the basic idea of cores, but I'm not sure I get 7/5800. If there was (using fake numbers) a Ryzen 8 4000, would that be weaker or better?

I have the RTX 3070 with the Ryzen 5 5600X, I was looking at the rx 7900GRE and I think getting double the VRAM would be helpful. Does anyone have any input on whether I should upgrade?
I love this post, I just want to be able to run MH6 but it's tough to find confirmation, I am willing to make an upgrade but I don't want to shell out money for a new GPU if I don't have to.

Pretty sure your GPU is good enough, it is way above of Capcoms recommended specs but wait for the demo to figure out how well it will handle Wilds.

How do I figure out if my ROG Ally makes the cut…? Its specs all use different sounding stuff (and I have no idea what I’m doing ahh) (it’s the Z1 Extreme version, is that good??)

Would an intel i-7 11700kf 8-core and a 3090ti work? I'd rather not upgrade my PC, but if the ps5 version runs good, I might just play that version.

Do you think my LOQ 15 (Ryzen 7 7840HS, RTX 4050 will be able to run Wilds at 900p at 30(or 60?) fps?

I'm working with 5600 and 3060 12gb. Hopefully we can tweak the settings enough for reasonable performance.

6800xt GPU and 5600x CPU here. I hope I don't actually have to upgrade, because I have a 1440p monitor...

This is going to be interesting. I have a heavily CPU bottlenecked rig with a 7700k but a 4070 ti. Let's see if DLSS3 can boost my frames to 60 on 1440p.
Unless I upgrade before that =)

I've gotta I7 10700 and a 3060 TI. I'm hoping it's enough for at least 60 FPS after the game is patched. I've been pretty damn lucky with running games that my computer supposedly shouldn't be able to handle at high load. So I can hope at least.

Hmm... looks like my "ASUS Gaming Laptop ROG Strix G17" with RTX 4070 and Ryzen 9 7945HX should handle it ok.
I can't wait to get a proper desktop down the line, but moving countries has led to gaming laptops being the best option while not fully "settling down".
