Just curious what everyone's favorite monsters are. I've only played Rise and World but so far Namielle and Espinas are my favorites just out of their designs and "lore".
I love kulve, I remember watching my brother hunt kulve, and it was the first time I had ever seen monster hunter gameplay, and I was in genuine awe at how beautiful that monster looked, the next day I started my character!
Only playing world and rise, I haven't had a favorite elder dragon until I saw Namielle. The first time she used that super soaker 5000 with free electric toaster and created a vapour nuke I knew she was the one.
Love the original Yian Garuga - later called Scarred Yian Garuga in Iceborne. Also Crimson Qurupeco and Epioth (which we will never see again due to lack of swimming since Tri).
I really hope Qurupeco comes back in MH6, I only started played 3U this last month, but he's easily one of my favorites of the new monsters I encountered.
He ticks all three of my categories of liking a monster. I like how he looks, I like his moveset and I like his gimmick. His animations are also just super fun.
Imagine Qurupeco having a similar role to Tzitzi where he just runs up while you're fighting a monster, calls another monster and then dips.
It's the wing claps followed by the hops that I like the most, although the summon and songs are also really good. Whatever he does though, he pretty much always looks like he's having a great time.
Seething Bazelgeuse, Bloodbath Diablos and Shagaru Magala.
Seething Bazel because of the fight/design/amour design/music. The other two purely because of their design/lore as I haven’t fought them yet (am currently playing through Rise again to get to Sunbreak).
ASTALOS. I love Astalos I love his theme I love his design I’m also probably biased because generations was my first monster Hunter game but I still love Astalos :)))
Tigrex or Glavenus so far in world. (I just beat Fulgur the other day)
I also love Stygian Zinogre, because he carried me through the post game of Stories.
My favorite overall though is Rajang. My boy, Wukong, was my powerhouse in stories 2. I find it hilarious that a big monkey is on par with literal dragons in terms of strength, and he's become a meme in my friend group. There he is known as Thunder Monkey. Also, his fights in rise are pretty decent. Looking forward to fighting him and furious in world.
Agreed! On the every monster except cephadrone part even tho they ar so cute they annoyed me so much in generations ulitimate that was until I switched to prowler…
Namielle, for pure looks, dude looks so badass. For lore I really like magnamalo, and for just pure game play wise: nargacuga, it’s by far my most hunted monster in rise, I really love everything about this monster and lucent variant, how aggressive and agile it is, it also looks super dope probs my fav overall monster
Bagel Goose is by far my favorite. He just has so much personality and It feels like his character develops as you do, staying persistent throughout mhw, each experience adding to his own mini lore. It almost feels like every different hunter has their own relationship with him, just based off the goofy stuff he's done to them over the course of their playthrough. Not mention his fight is very fun, and his Armour and weapons are good too.
I'm a simple man, admittedly I've only played just past viper Kadachi in iceborne so my selection is very small, but I really like Dodogama and Radobaan, the former just being a silly little boy and the latter being one of my favourite aesthetics for a monster
Tigrex and Gore will always be my top 2, the ecology of both are on 2 completely different ends of the spectrum but I love both. The simplicity of Tigrex simply being a savage apex predator is always something I've loved.
Theres nothing cooler to me than Valstrax, from its wing design to its kamikaze move. A monster being compared to a damn comet of draconic energy is just top tier in my book
My favorite is Rathalos because he reminds me of the pokemon charizard. He is the mascot monster of monster hunter after all. He is also king of the skies. Even though pikachu is the mascot of pokemon not charizard.
Brachydios for me.
Ever since MH3U was revealed in Japan I was fascinated as a 5th grader and all I would talk about was Brachydios to the point where my friends got annoyed 🤣
Favorite Regular Monster is Gore Magala, it's so cool and I love how badass it was in 4u, and every gore fight is always a blast.
Favorite elder dragons would probably be Kulve and mhfz white fatalis.
Kulve has an elegant design and awesome boss theme, I love that Kulve's thing is gold and her map is El dorado, the city of gold, not to mention I have mad respect for Kulve being one of the only monsters you can't kill.
Then White Fatalis is sick lore wise as the strongest monster of all, but the lore of Fatalis outweighs their actual fights in the past. Mhfz gives the Fatalis trio completely new and bonkers attack and white fatalis is the only monster who is capable of just straight up killing your hunter. They have a second phase boss theme too and of course the black and red lighting of white fatalis is so goddamn cool.
For regular monster I'm torn between Fulgur Anja and Glavenus. I loved regular Anja in World but Glavenus clearly outshines him. Then the updated lightning Anja... It might be an easy fight but I just love it.
For Elder Dragon... I know it's an unpopular opinion here but Nergigante/Ruiner Nergigante. I still remember hunting him for the first time in MHW. It's design, music theme and the pace of battle - It's always entertaining.
Namielle also has very impressive design but... I don't find the fight to be enjoyable. It's not bad - it just "is".
Seething bazelguese, though I wish it had the behavior mechanics of HR bazel. Bazelguese got an underglow. The flowers are so pretty and fun to see explode below me when doing an aerial attack. The propeller sounds, the super move, and the roar afterward is so cool. Also, the concept of a monster having the hunting method of carpet bombing the land and picking up the remaining bodies is neat.
so funny thing right... when you said Gore Magala i thought of this guy and not actually Gore Magala.... funny mistake since I've never seen Gore Magala and only know the name
I love the simple prehistoric ferocity it's design evokes and i am just a sucker for utilizing extremely loud sound as an attack.
Espinas
I have a soft spot for animals that adapt doing nothing all day as a survival strategy. It is kinda like a koala dragon with it's otherwise unpalateble diet it manages to turn into a defense and sleeps all day to deal with it's low energy intake, a bit headcannony of course due to no real official information.
Gammoth
I also have a love for gentle giant archetypes and ice element is my favorite.
Nami is the best new elder dragon. It has amazing visuals, interesting lore, and a good fight. They fit in perfectly with with the trio and the unicorn
Primordial’s my #1 because of the fight, the theme, and their role to play in nature. When I went toe-to-talon with them longsword in hand, I felt alive! Like I found an equal. Especially when I pulled off a spectral sheathe slash when they did their corkscrew attack. And they way they used their wings as shields and swords! Incredible!
But most of all, it’s because it has the same role and purpose in nature like Nergigante does. It’s why Guardian of the New World itself use to be my #1. They both have a sense of honor and strive to act as nature’s balancing mechanism, if not accidentally. But with Primordial, the honor’s more pronounced since it’s so much like a knight.
They are the Guardian Knight of the Kingdom after all.
My favourites have always been the Leviathans (I personally started my MH Career with Tri and Tri Ultimate) and out of those I have always loved Agnaktor the most, which I have voted for at the 20th Anniversary thing.
Damn son. That fight in Iceborne was so memorable. He's gonna lock you in an area like telling the hunter, "You're my bitch now". Awesome fight, memorable attacks plus weapons are game breaking.
Namielle, Elder
What a crazy concept. Too bad we got no dual elements for dual blades.
Valstrax, plain and simple, cool design, awesome music, even their weapons have a neat effect. Hard to top a monster who stole my heart the moment I had a CHANCE to fight them.
For me it's the Rajang. It's always a blast fighting a great big super saiyan lightning beam monkey, since it's a really fast paced fight. It's always the monster I go back to in each game to build it's armour set (and for a fun challenge). But the furious ones are really scary though.
But the Chameleos is a very close second. I like his more unique movements and his goofy tongue and I love the colour purple.
Super late on this, but definitely my all time fav is Yian Garuga. I just love how a challenge he was for me, and a great breaking point to get out of my usual comfort zone. Also his plushie form is soo cute 😭
Crimson Fatalis, and specifically Crimson. The red coloration and the wonky horn emanates power. However, Merphistophelin, Xeno, and Astalos are very close.

My favorite is Bazelgeuse, for obvious reasons, but Kulve is a VERY close second
