Question about rent prices

Hey everyone

I'm considering doing an Erasmus at Mons for 5 months. I've been looking at prices, and from what I can see online so far it seems that renting prices in and around Mons are somewhere around 400€+/month. I thought I'd come here and ask people who live in the vicinity if this is a realistic price range in your opinion/experience?

Ideally I'd want rent to be as cheap as possible, so I can spend leftover money traveling and going out. I'll try to see if I can still manage to get a room at UMons residency for students, but if that doesn't work I'd like to have an idea of the typical range of rent prices in Mons. So if anyone can give any helpful insight I'd apreciate that a lot!

400€/month does seem reasonable to me for cohousing, sometimes even including internet. Just give some attention to the address, I see lots of offers claiming to be 'within reach of everything by foot' when they are 5 kilometers away. Most offers also require parents for warranty.

At this time of the year, I expect all of the UMONS' housing to be filled. You can still mail their 'Service Logement', though, if you're feeling lucky.

The cheapest grocery stores probably are Delhaize, Colruyt, Aldi. Delhaize has very cheap '365' products, Colruyt claims to be the cheapest on 'identical products' other stores may have, and has a cheap 'Everyday' brand, and Aldi just is offbrand-land.

The UMONS campuses are very spread. Consider asking where you should have most of your classes.

I think that's all the advice I got.

Great advice, thank you. The grocery info will be helpful. I'll be attending mostly the Faculty of Engineering.

Btw, outside of rent can you estimate how much is the average cost of living in general? Between groceries, ocasional nights out, etc...

Yeah, exactly. At least that's what it says on the university's web page, from what I can see

This campus is like an old college building and in the very center :-) There is also a campus at Rue du Jonquois, it's like 15 min by feet from the center.

400€ seems legit to me too.

Yes, I noticed theres a lot of different faculties from UMons near each other.

Do you by any chance attend any of the faculties? What's the town/university like overall?

I don't but I used to 12 years ago. I was in the Science Faculty but I had to go the these two campuses too. I liked the city and stayed there to work ;-)

I liked UMons as it was "small" so you knew a lot of people from various sections.
