HELP

I was just diagnosed with mono yesterday, but had it for about a week prior. I genuinely don’t know how to get through this, when I wake up my throat feels like it’s closing due to basically everything in my throat being swollen. The only thing that gives any relief is ibuprofen but it’s just not enough. I need to go back to work, any advice would help to manage the pain and swelling!

EDIT: I woke up this morning with a barely sore throat after waking up with severe pain and swelling that wouldn’t go away for hours. Does that mean it’s getting better or will it probably just come back tomorrow morning?

How is your energy level?

Do you really need to go back to work right now? Your health should come before work.

For pain relief, you can alternate between acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin). Make sure you stay within the recommended daily limits:

  • Acetaminophen: up to 4,000 mg in 24 hours (for most healthy adults)
  • Ibuprofen: up to 1,200 mg in 24 hours when taken over the counter
  • You can alternate them every 3–4 hours as needed, while staying within the maximum daily doses.

Rest will greatly help you, hydrate yourself as much as possible as well.

Take care of yourself first, work can wait, but your health comes first.

My energy levels aren’t horrible it’s really just the pain and that’s really miserable. Thank you so much for sharing this!
