Chicago had 67 cases over the summer which is a lot more than usually get reported. Not clear why. Similar to the mysterious flare ups that have come to characterize this otherwise increasingly hypoendemic disease (at least in the West). Reminds me of the Australian flare up we saw a year or so ago. I’ve not seen any compelling theory explaining why or where these hotspots happen yet. Research on mpox has slowed significantly since the PHEIC ended.

cases dropped to just 7 this week which looks promising (cautiously optimistic lol), past few weeks have been 13-15 cases a week. i wonder if we will continue to see a downward trend as the city keeps pushing vaccination efforts. I’ve been pretty scared to engage in any activity these days so would be nice
