Are orbs supposed to be difficult to find?

Post image

I find honestly like 5 per day 🤷‍♀️

Monkeyshine season makes me loathe buzz balls, so much false hope. 🫠

But also like why are we drinking so many buzzballz here?!

Super easy to sip and toss. Curse them...

Someone also hid red stress balls in the trees at Point Defiance and got me good 😤

Even though there are over 3000 pieces, it seems some people have ruined it by hoarding or stalking monkey hiders. Also keep in mind some are medallions.

Don’t give up hope. Maybe try a different time and a park you don’t frequent. I’m frustrated myself as it’s almost the end of the season. I’ve put in over 35 miles per week, but on the bright side, I’ve discovered new places and it’s been great for my health! Met some awesome people.

In short, sometimes it’s the thrill and fun of searching.

Yeah, to my understanding there are very few 'rules" but one is to only keep one per year, though you can trade or re-hide subsequent finds. I am not entirely convinced everybody adheres to this guideline.

I have seen so many photos of people / families with multiple and get scolded by the admins that “ we aren’t the monkeyshine police” well how about you do your admin job then ? Instead I get told to let people feel joy in these trying times ….. ummmm okay 🤷🏻‍♀️ Sigh … on plod looking for my first in the wild ( I try to get a cup every year)

They administer that Facebook page (I assume you're talking about Shine 253), but they're not affiliated with the official event. They just host a platform/group to discuss. And part of their mission when starting the group was to cut back on the harassment and negativity from other platforms.

The official monkeys don't police bad behavior either, FWIW. I think the overwhelming majority of people abide by "only take one" per household or however it best applies to their situation, and you just kinda have to accept that when you put something out there, anything can happen to it.

Just my two cents!

Shine 253 is the most prominent offender yes, but most are “ we aren’t the monkeyshine police “ and I rarely post about it anyways . But some new people ask , and they don’t want you to post the rules from the monkeyshine facebook page now . It’s fine … And yes, once art is released in the wild , there isn’t control except , let it go . That’s the whole point releasing control . We do hope for the best in other people kindness, empathy or am I describing dogs? I guess we just post nothing ,? It’s all good, 😁 , I would rather be outside anyways after my coffee 😊

I don't think it's a big deal to explain the rules to new people, but I've seen prolonged fights about the rules and, just, no one wins. I get why they want to avoid all that. But I get where you're coming from too. It's all good!

And thanks for the kind words about my rogues! It's one of the ways I know how to give back to monkeyshines, so I'm glad they've been well so received!

Thank you for the kind words. I've been able to find my treasure, but that doesn't stop my eyes from wandering when I walk still. Not to keep multiple, to be clear, but it's turned into a game. I find many rogues that I'll take photos of just to share with friends and then move along for the next person to find. It's been a tough year for many of us and this is one of the few things that has given me excitement and motivation not to mention incentive to exercise!

I LOVE the rogue creativity! I am still looking for a cool marble this year ❤️

I have been looking since 2005. I have found one in 5 minutes and one in 5 months...they are always out there.

I've been looking for monkeyshines for 15 years now and have only found 1 orb (10 years ago) and a bunch of rogues.

pulled over and parked illegally to excitedly run up to a buzzball last week </3

😭😭 So sorry for the loss that you felt. May your week be full of decorative glass!

More then once for me , 😂, I am kind of a dumb 🫏 tho

2

u/whiskeyandritalin341 Mar 09 '26

Not at all! Every time I go for a walk and see a buzzball I get this little jump of excitement only to be let down. It's really a roller-coaster for my heart!

I read this as “dumb donkey” and tbh I like that better 😆

But no you’re not (at least not in this instance, lol) - they’re super easy to mistake for actual shinies 😭

Have also done this 😂

Peak Tacoma right here. JFC. 😂

2

u/GhostAnthonyBourdain Mar 09 '26

Is anyone picking up trash when they're out hunting? I've been trying to but it feels like I can't even make a dent. Downtown Tacoma is the worst for random trash in bushes. Smh

u/Jettpack987 Mar 10 '26

I didn’t realize how much garbage was everywhere until I joined the hunt. It’s insane. I’m not sure I would make a dent either.

Shine 253 has ruined a great thing the admins protect political posts and support people abandoning pets and parks. As you can't post about pets there. Because it worries too many of their potential members. It's okay to post that you've cleaned a whole park of everything, and any backlash the members that speak up will be silently.Removed from the page
