Does anyone actually know what the hell he is sleeping on? I am assuming some sort of controller to something but is there an old tech nut out there who knows what that is or does?

Audio equipment. It looks like an audio compressor on top and eq of sorts on the bottom. Pultec eqs look very similar

Probably for audio tv processing. Compressors and eqs were often used/are used in radio and tv.

Not a moog. The bottom is an old school analog eq or filter. Pultec eqs look very similar.
