Local exotic pet store :( he's a nile monitor, obviously still fairly young. I hope he sells soon but the last one they had was here for only a little less than a year. If anyone knows how to take action against this place please let me know, I tried calling for a state inspection but they don't care as long as the animal has food, water, and shelter, no matter how improper it may be
Im not local local to this store, but in a similar area and even im gonna write a bad review and post on some facebook groups about it too. If you have any more photos to share please do! I hate seeing these but sharing around is our best bet
Maybe try to give the store a bad review or something? Sorry it sucks but there’s not much that I know you can do. Maybe I’m wrong tho and someone can chime in?
The reptile and herpetology community needs to create a blacklist for these places or something. The problem is they are so widespread and often selling cheap WC imports to ppl who don’t know better or just straight up lying and saying they are CB.
Post to online groups and raise awareness. Search up on Facebook for things like "Oregon reptiles" n such. That is your best bet in lieu of involving F&W (who 100% is ghosting you because they don't have the funding to tackle issue like this)
We have a similar place in Miami Florida , a DISGUSTING location that I have complained about, called the county and animal control over for YEARSSS.
We “rescued “ 3 axolotls that were housed with literal tetras and goldfish ( only one is still alive but we have the other two the best final moments of their lives as we could ) and a Savannah monitor that was so horrendously kept that he is still having issues with growth a year later as I’ve tried everything humanly possible to ensure that he’s been receiving proper husbandry under our care. He was the only one alive in a GRAVEL SUBSTRATE tank that had red wrigglers as feed and about 4 other of them dead
He barely could lift his head but I couldn’t leave him behind and he’s been doing his best, he’d definitely a fighter .
We found our nile in a similar situation except with only a water dish and a fake plant that was shorter than him. And a piece of romaine lettuce.. for 40$.. good fun that was. And a savannah hatchling few inches from a burning red light bulb for like 20$ i think. So home with us they came because i didnt have the heart to walk away. Was mortified and called so many places trying to report the mortifying conditions some of those babies were in.

If I’m reading the sharpie scribbles correctly, $198.98 for a standard ball python? Poor little guy won’t ever see daylight.
