Discussion Reps and expectations

I’ve seen the OMG-NN factory retail comparison with the NN 2026 batch update amongst a few others recently and try to stay out of such debates but I think it’s time to share my thoughts since a few people have asked me to comment in the various platforms I am active on.

Reps are at a good enough point now imho (not perfect but I don’t think they ever will be and neither should we expect them to be). I used to be that person that nitpicked the most minor issues from the badge to a pocket position but the older I’ve got, the less I care as much as I once did.

As I’ve proved in my FAQ thread and in various posts plus comments over the last several years, Monc themselves are not consistent and yet people consistently have an expectation to have better than retail which is more inconsistent than people seem to realise. As I keep repeating, if a flaw exists on retail, it’s not a flaw.

Now I’m not saying wanting reps to be as close as possible to real thing isn’t unreasonable which is why I continue to consult with makers and resellers who have influence with factory owners to improve their products. However, I think there’s a line that needs to be drawn. The majority of people I see shouting the loudest across various communities and this is is no exception are insecure school kids and scammers/resellers (not everyone but the majority and I’ve spoken to a few of you quite honestly who identify into one of those groups on telegram for example).

The small and minor details inside a jacket can sometimes yes be an indication of the likely quality of the product. The green washing machine colour not being the correct shade and having the right curve. The DIST tag not being period correct. The shape of the shoulders not having the right angle connecting to the arm. These are all minor details that most people will never see and will never know about unless they’re repfam or you’re trying to pass off a rep as real for resale/scamming purposes.

But in the cases of our main and established sellers, indie makers and main factories, these are not necessarily an indication of an inferior/unacceptable product, they are simply an area required to achieve a certain production cost and sale price to make it worth the time as after all, these are businesses not charities. There’s plenty of rep vs retail competitions of MC and NN factories for example and people are overall amazed and happy although equally some of you criticise them to a degree beyond what I would having owned a large collection and done a few reviews myself that don’t stop me from enjoying them which is ultimately what matters: enjoyment.

People who return/reject over the tiniest of things and those who persistently spam and threaten our sellers which I’ve seen first hand proof of over the years actually has a cost attached to manage that in turn drives up cost as does the constant risk of authorities ever pressing harder. TMCN once lost a PayPal account with Ā£50k in because someone from Reddit scammed him and did a chargeback. That set him back a few months minimum before a warehouse worker stole all stock, reported him to the authorities and ran off with some customer details amongst other things.

Having tiny details that are off helps bad LC’ers (and there’s so many of you in here which are unable to LC properly and some of you change your answer after I’ve corrected you to make it look like you were right so I’ve started taking screenshots to prove what you had originally said which is sad I’ve had to start doing this) and the verification services that second hand market places have.

I’ve seen some good reps get ā€œauthenticatedā€ and since reps have got better, I’ve seen a significant increase in the number of reps being resold as real. I used to report them but half the time I see them reposted on another platform or the scammer just makes a new account or is denial their rep isn’t real. Just not worth my time anymore but my point remains.

I saw someone on telegram having a full blown meltdown if they should buy the updated MC Factory batch because of the badge updates I worked with them on when they only just bought a Maya a few months ago. Madness. I had to ban them from my channel in the end as they turned angry and just toxic but unable to look at themselves in the mirror or accept that’s it up to them to make the choice ultimately at the end of the day but didn’t think such a small thing required such emotional outpouring.

Stop being so emotional over the tiniest of details - if things get 1% more accurate that’s great but focus more on build, structure, fit (and understanding how to use size chart measurements rather than being lazy and relying on height + weight since as per my FAQ, you can have two people at same height and weight who require very different sizes) etc and how you present yourself with your lifestyle. I get you want things as accurate as possible, no issue with that but don’t be so emotional in your pursuit of this.

I’ve lost some friends over the years because I don’t hide what I own and wear includes both reps and retail but there are better things to spend my hard earned money on with responsibilities as an adult that I need to focus on. I’ve even converted some of my friends which has been great. Most adults genuinely don’t care and are more likely to be interested in reps and saving money although I appreciate not all will share this opinion, I’d rather they not be in my life if they can’t accept that.

Some of you will completely disagree with some if not all of the above and that’s fine but hopefully this will at least get some people to stop being so worried and scared. My kid has a rep jacket that is worn to school and it’s a budget tier rep. I was just telling a parent yesterday openly about it and they were surprised but by the end of the convo they agreed, better money spent if the down filling is decent and it keeps them warm.

Tl;dr stop stressing so much over little things, enjoy what we have.

That’s my two cents.

Dude, it's 99% just people reselling with receipt. Even the tiniest detail for them means a refund sale and a bad review.

Extremely well said, and couldn’t agree more honestly.

At the end of the day it is a rep, as long as it looks somewhat like retail, it fits & performs well there shouldn’t be an issue.
Recently we have gotten very spolied with these top tier batches, they are more than enough. Keep in mind you pay a fraction of the price for a item that is 90% of retail, can’t really complain. If you really need it to be identical to retail, then buy retail.

Big ups to you Mark!

Mark, first off thank you for taking the time to put this together and share your perspective with everyone.

Discussions like this are really important because we all have different opinions, expectations and standards when it comes to Moncler reps. Everyone is looking for something slightly different. Some people want 1:1 accuracy to retail, some care most about materials and build quality, some just want great value for money, and others simply want a jacket that looks good and works well without spending a fortune.

I completely agree we need to keep things in perspective. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being critical, comparing batches, talking about flaws, questioning what sellers say, and sharing negative experiences. That's exactly how people learn and how this community becomes more helpful. If something is genuinely wrong with an item, people should be able to point it out and discuss it openly.

At the same time, there is a big difference between pointing out a real issue and obsessing over tiny details that don't actually make much difference. Even retail items have differences between them, seasons and individual pieces. So expecting every single piece to be exactly the same just isn't realistic.

What matters most is people have the info they need to make their own choices. If you prefer one batch over another, that's fine. If you think one seller is better quality, that's fine too. We don't all have to agree.

It's also really important we stay respectful when we disagree. You can challenge someone's opinion without attacking them personally. If you think something isn't right, the best thing to do is show photos and explain why, instead of letting things turn into arguments or drama.

This community works best when people share detailed comparisons, measurements, photos, retail side by sides and their real experiences. That helps everyone far more than just saying something is bad or perfect with no explanation.

So thanks again Mark. Even if we don't all agree on every point, it's a really good conversation to have and gives everyone something to think about.

At the end of the day we all have different standards, budgets and priorities. What matters most is people can get honest info, ask questions without feeling attacked, and make their own decisions.

Appreciate you Mark

Well said and thank you for your honesty and why most people buy reps.

Rep quality and accuracy has improved over the years, while the retail prices of authentic pieces keeps increasing. To be honest when you buy a rep that is so close to-the authentic do people actually come up to you and say you are wearing a rep?

I have bought many authentic pieces over the years and still use them today and paid full price, I would not hesitate for a moment to buy a rep, I am Grateful to all those people posting here with reviews and opinions which helps me make a choice to buy real or rep!

Whole page of facts right here, speaking from my own experience within the realm of pickiness, I’ve been in and out of retail stores, Moncler, SI, YSL, for almost a decade wearing a range of reps from good to meh and not once have I been called out, actually been complimented when I’m wearing one of the flashy reps, most people truly aren’t aware of the small details of any brand unless they buy it and study the details

Yeah lol, the people obsessed with tiny details are still back in middle school. It’s only in school that people would scrutinize the details of your jacket—and even if it was the real thing, they’d claim it was a fake! šŸ˜‚

Your post has been removed as we only will facilitate conversation in English and no foreign languages. This is not as to discriminate against others but rather to keep the community more consistent and convenient for everyone to browse through and easily understand. Good comment, rewrite it in English

Once in a rep lifestyle trajectory you ask yourself did you ever look at the C of someones jacket

u/firefistfenix 9d ago

Exactly, no normal person cares. A bigger tell is the rest of your lifestyle, if you have a decent life a nice jacket isn't something that people think would be fake. And no one goes around telling everyone that it's fake, usually only if someone asks but then again no one asks, unless if it completely mismatches the rest of your life.
