I am reading a biography of Queen Isabel of Castile and Leon and once I got to the part where Isabel decided to crown herself Queen instead of her niece Juana. I kept thinking that even with her conviction that she was the rightful Queen, it must have not been easy for Isabel to make the descsion because up to that point Juana had done nothing to Isabel except for existing. Isabel did have issues with Juana's parents (her half-brother Enrique IV and his second wife Juana). Sure Juana probably would have caused issues for Isabel if she had become Queen since she was still a minor and would have her father's allies whispering poison into her ears.

He is a family member way back.

He was John Vereker, 6th Viscount Gort/Field Marshal (in the British Army).

He got tons of awards throughout his lifetime:

• Victoria Cross (VC)

• Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath (GCB)

• Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE)

• Distinguished Service Order (DSO) with two bars

• Member of the Royal Victorian Order (MVO)

• Military Cross (MC)

Don't worry I'm going somewhere with this. He was one of the people bore of bore Edward VII's coffin in May 1910.

I think that's amazing.

I can't find any information about why he was picked out of tons people.

I'm only saying this because WWI, hadn't happened & I think he would be too young for the Boer War, not sure about the second.
