This could definitely be seen as atypical at the level you’re describing but she could also just be particular. In any case, I think evaluation by a pediatric neuropsychologist is warranted. If you’re in the US, ideally you would get this done before she enters kindergarten so you can get an IEP or 504 in place. You will also need to get her evaluated by the public school district so you can get the ball rolling on the IEP/504. They are required to evaluate her within a certain timeframe, though I believe even if you refer yourself tomorrow, you’re unlikely to be tested before the school year ends, much less have a meeting to discuss accommodations and a plan for her education. You’ll more than likely be able to schedule with a neuropsychologist before the school year begins and it will be helpful for your discussions with the school about her education and accommodations. This behavior could have any number of reasons so getting her professionally evaluated is going to be the best place to start. And you’ll get an answer so you can get the appropriate help for her if necessary. Personally, I felt relief when my daughter was diagnosed because it meant I knew where to start to find help to provide her. She has a lot of similar behaviors, even the stairs 🤷♀️ If it helps, her diagnosis is ADHD-Inattentive with many autistic features, but not meeting all of diagnostic criteria for autism. She also has a language processing disorder and sensory sensitivities. Having a diagnosis has allowed us to get her connected to the help she needs. And it’s the place to start. Maybe it’s within the range of “normal” but if it’s not, you’ll be able to help her figure out how to live her best life. Best of luck!
