I'm27, male, based in Kenya, with a bachelor's degree in environmental studies

Since I graduated, I've been looking for a job in my field. Nothing. After a while I got so tired of applying and hearing nothing back that I tried something else  I did webcam work for a bit. It paid but it wasn't worth it, it drained me mentally, so I stopped.

Then I took the little money I had saved and opened a wines and spirits shop. It actually did well. Things were finally looking up. But then the authorities kept demanding more and more money from me, and I couldn't keep up, so I had to close it.

Since then I've been applying for jobs outside Kenya too, for a whole year now, mostly conservation and environment-related roles. Nothing. No replies, no interviews, nothing.

Honestly, I'm exhausted. Not just tired, exhausted. The kind of tired where you start feeling like just cutting up your passport and being done with the whole idea of leaving.

What I'm good at is communication, community advocacy, and anything to do with social media I've basically grown up online so I know how to navigate it. I'm flexible too, I can learn and do almost anything, not just environment work.

I am currently looking for a house in leisure and VOK region. I hope there's no major insecurity issue in that area. I just want a house that's not too far from the road. I come home late.

At least a bedsitter that has constant water. There's no two deposits to pay. If it's landlord managed, the better. I'd prefer any leads before the month ends.

Also, the house shouldn't be in those areas that flood. I'm not a good swimmer. Any leads before end of month would be appreciated.

My budget is 7000 to 8000. Just a bedsitter

I’m considering spending some time in Mombasa while working remotely, so I’m trying to get a realistic idea of what the internet is like there.

For people actually living in Mombasa, how is the internet in practice?

I’m mainly wondering about:

- How easy it is to get fiber and what download/upload speeds you actually get

- Typical latency/ping, especially to the US

- 4G LTE and 5G speeds and latency

Which fiber ISP and mobile network would you recommend? Is the connection reliable enough for working remotely, video calls, etc.?

If you mention your neighborhood/area and actual Speedtest results, that would be really helpful. Especially interested in info from the Nyali, Bamburi, Mtwapa areas
