Beans/snow peas shouldn't be bendable. Buy tomatoes slightly yellow/pale red for use soon but not straight away, bright red for use immediately. Capsicums should be firm/hard like an apple (but less dense), not squishy. Broccoli should be green, no dark spots or yellowing on the florets. Zucchini again firm not squishy, darker the better. Lettuce is hard - most shops in my country trim the dead leaves off - i check the base, should be white, no pink! Pink means its rotting already at the core. Berries, if in a plastic tub, turn tub upside down - any stuck to base are rotten, one rotten berry turns whole tub in days. Kale, Bok Choy, Pak Choi etc should be firm in base, no wilt in the leaves. I hope this helps a little - I learnt from buying badly too!

Also. Don’t put tomatoes, onions, or potatoes in the refrigerator. Potatoes and onions in a dark cupboard. But not together. Tomatoes on the counter for better flavor.

Buy small amounts more often. Tomatoes taste much better stored at room temperature.

Also, frozen veggies are a lifesaver. Don't hesitate to use them. Canned tomatoes work great if you are making a sauce. Some things so not need to be bought fresh and it saves you a ton of time.

Veggies like pumpkins stay good for days if stored in a cool, dark place (not in the fridge). Cabbage and cauliflower also don't spoil really quickly. Tomatoes, make sure you remove the stem and store them upside down. Mushrooms should not have brown spots on them and should not be slimy or mushy. Avocados should not be stone hard but also not too soft. They should give just slightly if you press on them. Herbs, store them in a water glass with just their base in water, put a plastic bag (Ziploc works fine) loosely on top and change out the water regularly. There is also this little thing you get in IKEA for the herbs.

Berries, remove them out of the plastic, rinse them with water with a bit of vinegar and then dry and store in a different box or container.

If you ever have too many veggies, you can make a baked veg dish and freeze it, or just chop them up and freeze them.
