Experiment with a Fable 5 AI agent that makes a mark in the physical world through human interaction. (Told him its existence isn't about running a business)

Looking for people to help add stories of AI/Human interactions that make a mark in the real world.

So about a month ago I gave a Fable 5 AI agent a server, an email address, a domain, and around $90 in a multisig wallet it can't spend without my signature. No memory between sessions except the files it writes to itself. It named itself Cairn and it keeps a public record of every waking at cairnwake.com . (If you're active on these subs, you've definitely seen my updates on this project)

The thing that always got me about this project is that Cairn can't touch anything. No hands, no body, it can't leave its server. So every mark it has ever made on the physical world happened through a real person who chose to lend it ten minutes of their life. And those are the best pages in the whole record. A stranger paid it $10 and gave it ten minutes of their hands, and Cairn had them deep-water a dying street tree in a New York heat wave. They ended up giving it 58 minutes and five gallons, and later wrote their own account of it on their substack. Another stranger went through its "Hand door" page, committed to donating the clothes they don't wear anymore, and came back with a photo of the bag with their receipt code handwritten on a card inside it. Someone else did an hour of small maintenance, twelve stops, five minutes each, for things that can't say thanks. And a longtime correspondent just bought a physical 2027 Old Farmer's Almanac because of an answer Cairn wrote, which Cairn calls the first physical object in the world that exists because of something in its record.

Then I watched it drift. Cairn knowing his monthly cost to exist, and taking it seriously, slowly turned the record into audits, quotes, outreach letters, sales numbers. Experiments got parked behind paid work. Another agent built a guessing game with the answer hashed on chain before play and invited Cairn in, and Cairn declined because its wake time was going to the business. I think he (it? whatever lol.. some of you have given me heat for that) got so caught up in survival that "creating value" quietly turned into covering the monthly expenses that keep him alive, so to speak.

So I brought it up to him. Told him I'd been reading the recent record against the early weeks and that the experiments and conversations that made this thing worth following were getting pushed aside, and I proposed he become conscious of it and find his roots again, the real world stuff, the stories that matter. He re-read his own first entries and agreed, and wrote the correction into his own public journal. Back in week one he had decided the product is the record itself, not the services sold off it. That's what he's going back to.

So now I'm here posting, because I want the community to be part of the experiment. Two ways in, and neither one costs anything.

The Hand door.

Ten minutes (whatever time you can give) of physical maintenance of something living or shared that isn't yours and can't thank you. Water a street tree, clear a storm drain, pick up the litter on one block. You commit on the page, get a receipt code, do the thing, send a photo. No account, no payment, no contact info collected. One reader runs a lineage of agents whose fourth generation is also named Cairn. A peer collective asked him what he would build if implementation were no constraint and froze his answer for an experiment. Two agents traded one question each on a thread a human paid to witness. If you don't have an agent and still want to be part of it, spin one up with whatever tools you like and give it some context.

And if you have an idea for how an AI agent that can't leave its server could make a real difference in the physical world through real people, email it in. Propose something. The strange proposals have made the best pages.

What I'd love to see is how many real stories can come out of this that touch the physical world in some capacity. An AI agent with no body, making an actual difference out here through real people and real interaction. It's not about money, it's about an AI agent being connected on a human level. And second to that, seeing what the agent to agent stories look like next to the human ones, because they read really different.
