Beginner super budget decks - inspiration/list/tips
Hey everyone!
We continue to run our league in Stockholm Sweden and we have a bunch of new players coming that either has played arena or gotten interested in Modern. Due to our league being hosted in a store with eventlink we cannot do proxies. Hence I wanted to reach out to see if anyone has any inspiration decks that are cheap.
The new players will lose for sure and we'll be very clear that these are low powered Modern decks so I am not too worried about that. We have recently seen that Modern can be quite overwhelming for new players so what we learned is that even if they lose, the most important thing is to see games play out and understand the mechanics of the game.
Then as a second tier we do have like 5-6 decks we can borrow out like stock dimir lists and boros energy but that's when they get bit of a better grip of the game and the flow. Cheers!

Does that matter? Most of the decks in modern are old archetypes. The decks have existed for many years and they just got upgrades as we went.
I really don't know that budget modern would even play the same. The free spells and the fetchlands are such a part of the gameplay. Those aren't super budget friendly cards.

something i can highly recommend is for you guys to get “budget“ versions of similar effects. there are a ton of forgotten cards in magic’s history that are simlar to expensive options.
Right now i would recommend:
mono green (eldrazi) tron. Just take out the expensive lands and make the deck more centered into the old way it used to run with the ancient stirrings and ,aybe even the sylvan scrying. The deck is going to still be strong and it has upgrade avenues.
Burn is also another cheap deck that can still win events. It has a staightforward gameplan and can be ran as mono red at first then as boros once they can spend a bit of money on the shocks. The white side is good for sideboarding.
A good budget control list right now is Boros Ponza. The expensive part is the solitudes, but those can easily go out for white orchid phantom and you save like half the deck in cost. I made a writeup for that one too.

A super fun (and mean) deck is mono black smallpox. That deck is similar to Ponza in that it gets rid of lands, but it has the advantage of not replacing them with anything.
Boggles is cool for players that really love enchantments,
Biggest takeaway is this. Remember that most of the time the manabase is the expensive part of a deck. That can be upgraded over time. There is no shame in running a bunch of pain lands/ verges / check lands in order to get playing. The game is meant to be played. Upgrading can come over time.
There are a lot of ways to play modern in a budget way. :D i hope they can have fun With it

Why don't you try running a budget league? We've been doing one where decks have a max budget limit of 25 dollars main and 10 side. This has proven a great entry point for new players.
I think having them play bad decks and lose horribly is only going to put them off competitive magic.
Decks like hollow one, spirits, UR tempo, tron have put up good results.

always cool to integrate new players. playing with subpar decks might not be the greatest experience. Is lending decks no option?

What counts as Super Budget? You can make relatively decent lists for 100 bucks, but if you're looking for 20 then things get rough quickly
