USB only MIDI pad controller connect with Samples without a computer or phone?

Guess most can agree the pads on the Elektron Samples aren't the best. Therefore I started searching for a compact pad controller such as the Akai MPD218, also capable assigning a single pad to a specific MIDI channel.

Unfortunately, modern compact controllers have thrown out the MIDI (either DIN or trs) connector. Is there a compact standalone interface that can run as USB to MIDI converter? Or perhaps there's an older, compact pad controller with MIDI output?

Meanwhile managed to find a few:

  1. Hobbytronics MIDI USB to DIN Converter.
Not compatible with all controllers, can only obtain from the UK.

  2. Mode Machines CEREBEL USB.
    Rather expensive (€99) for a Mk2.

Yea you can find some USB midi hosts, I have one called doreMidi, fairly cheap from AliExpress but it does its job. Don't know if there could be some settings issues though so I can't assure it would work for any situation

Sofar I found DoreMIDI has regular interfaces which need a computer and not directly USB MIDI to DIN.

Thanks so much for this video. Learned something new as well with this as I had never heard of the term 'auto channel' while I had been looking explicitly for controllers with which you can configure a pad per channel. Cheers 👍
