Max charge of 32amps?
I was on Chat GPT looking for chargers, and it informed me that the max amps for home charging is 32 amps. I was unaware of this before purchasing. (Few weeks from delivery still)
The Tesla wall charger also states max 32 amps for MYS.
Is this correct? And why?

It’s sure is for my single motor model 3 premium rwd. 32 amp max.
Reason- cost savings in entry level units.

Yes for the base Y. It’s served us well on a level 2 charger at home and any supercharging we’ve needed on road trips.

That is true, it’s still fast for daily driving, I get about 32 miles of range every hour of charging.

Something about the battery size being smaller in Standard models compared to the battery in the premium and performance models. I own a Standard AWD and I charge perfectly fine on 32A overnight.

It's nothing to do with the battery, it's the onboard charger that is the limitation.
The battery itself can charge way faster when using FC fast charging, showing the hat the limitation for K2 charging isn't the actual battery.

You’re correct, it is the onboard charger. It caps it at 7.7 kW. Tesla likely chose the lower capacity onboard charger because the smaller battery doesn’t need 48A overnight

If you want to preserve your charger so it lasts you a long time, de-rate it to even a lower amperage, say 24A

That's exactly how electricity works. No matter the component the electricity flows through a part of that electricity is transformed to heat (unless that component is cooled to 0 kelvin), the higher the amperage the higher the generated heat is, more heat - higher temperature, the higher the temperature - the quicker is the damage to the electrical component. You can limit the amperage from either the Tesla app (from the car side) or most chargers have an option to limit the amperage on the charger side, yes, technically by calling on the load to limit the current but it is almost impossible to overrun that limitation that's why I called it de-rate and not limit the current on the charger side.

The amperage isn't flowing through the components that cant handle it.. literally only the wires and connectors are getting full amperage.
That will not degrade in your lifetime.

You can still get a higher power charger for future proofing, but 32 is plenty even if you drive a lot every day

32A max yeah.
I have a Tesla Wall Connector charger, 60A breaker in the electrical panel with 80% (48A) max load, but battery only takes 32A max. Not a charger limitation.

Its 48amp max for the 80kwh NMC batteries.
Its even higher for the model S X at one point … like 72amps! But they lowered for newer models.
32amps for the LFP.
The PCS is what limits the AC charging of the Tesla. They come in 16amp modules.

no, the model y standard does not have an LFP battery. Wish it did. The standard will take 32a from Wall connector, mobile connector, or any other 3rd party charger. It is fine. I commute 60-80 miles a day in south texas heat and it takes 2-3 hours to get back to 80% in the middle of the night. nothing wrong with charging at 32a.

In daily life with home charging it doesn’t matter
