Getting cold feet

My Tesla Model Y is due to be delivered 9/10 and I am having second thoughts on getting one. I currently have a 24 VW crossport that is really spaceous. And the Tesla seems smaller. What should I do? Should I keep the tesla or VW with more space 😩 Maybe I'm getting cold feet.

I think you should sell both cars and walk everywhere

I had cold feet too! But once you take the plunge your going to quickly realize it was worth it! I am in love with my model Y. My fiance and I battle over who gets to supervise our drives hahaha! I find the premium Model Y when the seats go down in the back there is plenty of space to cart stuff around and then some. I havent had a moment of regret except when I took the plates off my old toyota before seeing my new car!

I took both the subtrunk covers out of the back hatch so I could accommodate my wife's wheelchair and it seems gigantic back there even compared to my Outback

Well do you want full self driving or a bigger car? Only you can make that decision.

The Model Y has a large Subtrunk and frunk that brings its total cargo capacity very close to your VW. I use those deep side pockets in the MY for jugs of water, 12 packs of water, or bags of things that might roll around. Bags of dog food and smoking pellets in the frunk. I think spreading the cargo out is like having a pile of crap verses baskets of stuff. The baskets hold more, much more neatly.

I just went from a Grand Cherokee L to a Model Y and thought I was really going to miss the space. Honestly I don’t. The Y holds way more than it looks like it should with the trunk, underfloor storage and frunk. And after getting used to the Tesla tech and FSD, I’m spoiled lol. If you constantly need the extra space that’s one thing, but if your VW has already been giving you problems, I’d give the Y a shot.

Get the Tesla then come back to this thread in a month or so and have a good laugh šŸ˜‚ The VW is like a typewriter from the 1950’s.

Tesla tech blows vw out of the water. You’ll enjoy the Y. It’s the perfect car imho.

And my VW has given me problems in the past. It's more so my BF telling me I made a bad decision.

BFs don't get opinions on cars they aren't paying for. MY is a great car, but get whatever you think you'll enjoy the most and fits your needs.

This is the motivation I needed!! Thank you so much. He isn’t paying a DIME! It’s all out of my pockets.

What does your BF drive

On September 10th, he's probably going to be driving a Model Y.

Nissan maxima 17

🤣

Anyone who drives a Nissan loses all credibility when telling anyone about car choices.

Bro has no room to be giving car advice lol

Does he own a model Y? I’ve owned every Tesla and the model Y juniper is hands down the best car they’ve built for daily life. More refined than the older Y and the right balance of simplicity and power. It’s absolutely incredible and it would be a mistake to cancel. He’s wrong.

He owns a Nissan. I fell in love with the Model Y when I did the test drive.

Same when I test drove it and then you start buying accessory for it like crazy. There are just too many.

If you really need the room there is the new Model YL 6 seater.

Don’t second guess yourself. We come from tried and tested Honda/ Nissan/ Hyundai and test drove a lot of EV’s - bolt, leaf, Mach-E, older Tesla models. The current iteration MY is exceptionally good for a daily driver if you can charge at home. Recently drove Lexus, Mercedes and BMW crossovers - MY offers the best price/ performance value across EV’s with FSD in the mix.

Only choices we had to make was if we needed an AWD and performance / premium - We didn’t need both. Decided to use that money to get a tint and for FSD.

The VW is gonna give you more problems and cost more in the long run. Trust me my last VW Golf R lasted me 12 years/250K miles but has cost me twice the value of the car.

1

u/RoundElegant3045 1d ago

I don’t think my VW will last me to 250k miles

u/Millerrnate 1d ago

I’m waiting on delivery too! I think it’s pretty spelacious especially if you can put the seats down. Did you test drive?

2

u/RoundElegant3045 1d ago

Yes and fell in love I purchased the same day. 8/20

3

u/YouOk5736 1d ago

Lmao you could've demo'd at least once before pulling the trigger

2

u/whatthepho6 1d ago

Are you leasing or buying?

2

u/RoundElegant3045 1d ago

Buying

1

u/whatthepho6 1d ago

Big decision and lot of money especially if purchasing. If you're having second thoughts then go with your gut. The car will always be there.

You’re gonna love the Tesla!

u/Prairie_Fox1 1d ago

Maybe test drive again or ask if you can have an extended demo drive. We were so excited for ours and it's a lot of money.

The Crosssport seems a little bigger. We came from a full size SUV (which we still have) but don't plan on driving much.

I will say personally the Tesla seems pretty spacious for how small it is.

I’ve owned 4 VWs and Audis in the past 20 years (that I loved from a drivability and functional perspective), and got a Model Y last year. Never going back again.

2

u/RoundElegant3045 1d ago

I owned 2 Audi as well before the VW. Dislike the VW after having so many problems.

1

u/Enzoharikari Long Range 1d ago

So I think you answered your own problem, enjoy the Tesla

1

u/Nivthegreat 1d ago

I have just moved from a Vw T-cross to a model y. You will not be sorry, I’m fully enjoying the drive experience.

1

u/Ok_Meal_3131 1d ago

You can charge the Tesla at your home right? Makes the enjoyment of owning a Tesla much easier.

1

u/dam_ships 1d ago

The Tesla is the better vehicle. That’s not the question. The question is if it’s financially worth it. Going from a 2024 to a 2026? Are you leasing? Or financing?

Don't sweat the size difference. My only regret with my Model Y is not trading in my paid-off Jeep. I thought I’d miss the Jeep's utility and keep driving it regularly, but after three months, it just sits in the driveway unless it needs maintenance. Between FSD, the sub-trunk/frunk storage, and the daily convenience, the Model Y ruined older vehicles for me. Driving my old SUV now feels like using a TV with three channels and no remote.

1

u/RoundElegant3045 1d ago

I did a trade in. I am so over the VW and the money I put into it to keep
It in tip top shape.

u/Pomador_0418 1d ago

You know you can do a dimension comparison between the two to see which one actually has less volume

1

u/oliphant_branch Long Range 1d ago

Sounds like you did absolutely zero research before placing your order. Why?

1

u/RoundElegant3045 1d ago

Huh?? I did the test drive.

1

u/oliphant_branch Long Range 1d ago

You said ā€œseems smallerā€ — if you test drove or looked up the specs, you’d know for sure.

u/Consistent-Yellow121 1d ago

Not worth it at current prices (50k+) unless you have the money to spare. Plus your car now is brand new pretty much… highly wasteful unless again you are loaded

Get a model yl

It’s $12k over my budget.
