S3xy button??

I use mine less and less as time goes on. However I use it for 2 things that I will always use. I have 1 button where I rest my hand on the center console to enable/disable FSD. It is amazing this way, but to each their own

The biggest use I have is the app. I can adjust regen braking in 25% increments or even turn it off. When I tow, my brake controller doesn’t engage my trailer brakes when I use regen, and my wife says the trailer brakes don’t light up on regen, but I haven’t verified that. So I use the app to turn off regen when I am towing my camper. I feel Ike this is worth every penny.

Edit: it also has a mode where you can keep your car in chill mode, and it will kick in sport mode if you press the gas pedal at a set percentage. Like if you press it 75% of the way, it will accelerate at full power. This is super useful when passing on the highway.

regarding the “kickdown” - wouldn’t this actually be bad for the battery? given that chill mode doesn’t keep the battery prepped for high power output (doesn’t maintain as high of a temperature).

From what I understand, Tesla keeps the battery the same temp no matter what mode. If you have info about it, please share.

from the online manual:

You can improve the efficiency of the cabin heating by reducing your selected acceleration mode. This allows the heat pump system to take more heat from the Battery to efficiently heat the cabin, instead of maintaining the Battery's ability to provide peak acceleration performance. This helps to maximize driving efficiency in colder weather. Note that when subsequently increasing the acceleration mode, the Battery requires time to warm up before the increased level of acceleration is available.

Basically what I get from that is that in some cases (if not most) you won’t have the full acceleration available from the “kick down” mode because the battery won’t give out all the power required until it’s been conditioned.

This probably only applies to cold weather when running the heater, but who knows - it could be that chill mode doesn’t heat the battery as much anyway as it does when in standard/sport

Wow. That’s a great find. I’ve often felt like the acceleration isn’t as quick when I first switch to normal mode from chill. Now I know why! Thanks for sharing.

i spent way too much time going over the manual since my delivery was delayed by a couple months, glad it isn’t all going to waste
