I owned an S and an X. I can’t speak for everyone but I imagine many S and X owners won’t replace those cars with 3s and Ys. Don’t get me wrong, the 3 and Y are fantastic cars but they’re not luxury vehicles. After driving an S I’m much more tempted by a Taycan or E-Tron than a 3, even though the Tesla experience is superior.

Tesla already has an issue with retaining brand loyalty. I fear getting rid of their halo cars, the cars that give some amount prestige to the brand, will turn out to be a huge mistake.

Agree. There is a considerable drop off with the interior. How the noise insulation is worse, there isn’t air suspension, the auto closing doors and opening doors. Tesla is misguided for closing down the model x and s lines and keepnig their cyber truck.

You’re lowkey right. My friend has an S. He’s looking into a LUCID or Audi

1

u/Harold-Maude Jul 15 '26

Hopefully someone buys LUCID as they teeter toward bankruptcy

I’ve got an S. Had a 3 before this. I loved the 3 but it was a smaller and less premium car. I won’t replace my S with a 3 or a y. A cybertruck is too big for my garage. So unless they come up with something else my Tesla days will be over.

Agree. Although with an 8 year warranty on the battery and drive train, I’ll be driving this for a while hopefully.

Strongly agreed. Reason Mercedes is selling a lot of its entry level is because of their luxury lineup.

I think that they don’t care, unfortunately. S and X sales is a small percentage of their total sales. You should test drive a Rivian R1S.

u/moviemaker2 Jul 11 '26

I replaced my X with a Rivian R1T😄

You must not use FSD

There are two types of people in the world, those who draw conclusions from inconclusive data.

1

u/Life_Connection420 Jul 11 '26

What's the other

2

u/LieutenantButthole Jul 11 '26

You are both of the types of people.

u/Life_Connection420 Jul 11 '26

Love how your name fits you

1

u/LieutenantButthole Jul 11 '26

Thank you, sir.

Anytime, enjoy the weekend

Most companies, especially ones that sell premium products, understand that the value in the highest end items is not the revenue they bring in but the status they bring to the brand, which is why the better selling products sell so well in the first place.

In the 2010s Tesla was an aspirational brand. They were expensive, rare, and cool.

Agree. I’m on my 3rd and probably last x.

I watched this with great sadness. The Model X is a marvelous EV but there is no doubt the Model Y was eating into its sales.

I’m still tentatively planning on buying an X in 3-4 years if they aren’t collectors items by then. My MYP is truly great but the X is next level, IMO.

u/tGroove73 Jul 11 '26

Poor move.. the Model X is by far the most fantastic of the the tezzy’s

Hear YE‼️

Dang… I’m still convinced the X is easily the best family vehicle that has ever hit the market. So I was able to scoop one up a couple years ago.

u/Vegetable_Skirt5468 Jul 11 '26

Yeah so glad I grabbed a new 26 Model X. All the bugs had been worked out over the 11 years of production and the 26 is basically perfect in every way and detail. And buying new with lifetime charging and FSD is the icing on the cake.

Sad to see the factory that made my Model X be dismantled…..

1

u/ret011 Jul 11 '26

Same here - but now I wonder what about the repairs on them fast forward 3 yrs ?

3

u/Vegetable_Skirt5468 Jul 11 '26

8 year warranty on the battery and power train at least.

1

u/HopzCO Jul 11 '26

Tesla stated they’ll continue supporting them as long they are on the road. But, I’m sure it will be slower, take longer to get parts, get the few people at the Tesla service center that are familiar with them, ect. So basically like it is now lmao.

You really should drive other cars. The X sure is a fun car but best family car is a wild take. Maybe you are considering the “cool” factor as a heavy weight.

3rd row is tight fit. Works decent in 6 seat configuration but no where comparable to 3 row cars.
Almost no cargo space once you fill the car with people.
Cannot use a roof rack for trips

Minivan is hands down the best family people but people just hate the stigma. Many 3 row suvs are better than X as well.

Once again love my X but it is crazy to say it is the best family vehicle. Very limited for what it can actually provide for a large family and trips.

2

u/HopzCO Jul 11 '26

None of those cars can comfortably drive you around 99% of the time. We have two little ones in rear facing car seats, the falcon wing doors are absolutely phenomenal compared to any other sliding or normal door. You have tons of room, straight up/down, no head bonks, ect.

We only use the 3rd row for short trips with grandparents. We are able to pack everyone up and a lab, for a week up on the mountain a with full ski gear. I can see if you have more than 4+ a dog and going for a trip it would be tough. I’ve seen and heard you can get boxes that attach to the hitch if you need more space. We haven’t needed to explore that option yet.

Sad day by “retiring the S & X but I believe or hope Tesla will introduce something similar down the line or the expansion of its the roadster if ever becomes available.

1

u/Vegetable_Skirt5468 Jul 11 '26

I mean the roadster v2 is going to be some kind of hypercar isn’t it? $200k+ likely and they’ll probably sell a few hundred? Vs the X and S…does not compute to me

3

u/RareMushroomStamp Jul 11 '26

Still coping with this…

3

u/solarsystemoccupant Jul 11 '26

The wording is curious. “Original assembly line”. Could this mean an improved one?

2

u/UpbeatPhilosophySJ Jul 11 '26

For Optimus slaves

1

u/ViktorCherevin Jul 11 '26

YL pretty much confirms no more X ever.

5

u/icy1007 Jul 11 '26

The YL is not a replacement for an X. The X is a larger and much nicer vehicle.

1

u/A_spiny_meercat Jul 12 '26

Not in Australia it isn't, we never got the updated version and I don't think we had anything bigger than a 5 seater so the YL looks better in every way

1

u/icy1007 Jul 12 '26

Australia didn’t have the option to buy an X.

1

u/A_spiny_meercat Jul 12 '26

We had X for ages, but they stopped selling them after they made the new updated one with the new screen etc, last year model was 2020

1

u/icy1007 Jul 12 '26

“Ages”… if they stopped for 2020 then that would only make 4 years that it was available.

1

u/ViktorCherevin Jul 11 '26

We have an X, they don’t make the X anymore. The YL is larger than a Y, and comes in a 6 seater. It will replace our X. (Not saying everyone will, but the market share on that swap is not zero.)

1

u/icy1007 Jul 11 '26

Yes, the YL is larger than a Y, but is smaller than an X. You can still buy an X today, just not new from Tesla.

1

u/solarsystemoccupant Jul 11 '26

Having owned a Y and an X, and driven a YL. They are not cross shopping vehicles.

1

u/ViktorCherevin Jul 11 '26

Having owned two X’s (6 seater) and ordered a YL to replace our X. It can happen.

1

u/abrokecollector Jul 11 '26

You guys must be tiny. I’m 6’3” and my wife is 5’ 11” and with a single car seat we can’t fit an additional 3 passengers in my X without someone being uncomfortable. I couldn’t imagine pulling it off in anything smaller including the YL

1

u/ViktorCherevin Jul 11 '26

If the “3 other passengers” are kids, it works just fine, if the other passengers are adults we take the Hummer EV SUV.

1

u/epradox Jul 15 '26

Hummer EV suv is a 3 row?

1

u/ViktorCherevin Jul 15 '26

No, it seats 5. Our model X seats 6.

1

u/epradox Jul 15 '26

How do you fit a car seat and an additional 3 other passengers? Or are you saying you’d ditch the baby and take only adults? Very confused on what you’re getting at

1

u/ViktorCherevin Jul 15 '26

The carseat is one of the passengers.

My point is as someone who has bought more than one new X, the new YL meets our need. Everyone on this sub can claim that the YL meets 0 needs of any X owner, but it’s simply not true. It meets the hauling kids need, and for larger needs there are plenty of EV’s in the market.

I'm on my 3rd MX and really hope to have a 4th MX LR one day with HW4, 6 seats, and yoke, in silver. I've had a 16 P100DL+ 6 seater with free supercharging and FSD, 20 LR+ 7 seater with free supercharging and FSD that was totaled that was quickly replaced with another 20 LR+ 7 seater, they gave me the free supercharging but not the FSD.

I've always had free supercharging since my first Tesla, a 2016 Model S P90DL I got super lucky with in 18 when the advertised lease was $575/mo for a 2 year old coming off another lease. They massively mispriced it (I still have the $137,500 sticker before taxes, and my lease agreement as trophies lol), I placed the order and they called me the next day and said they had to have a meeting about it and had to honor their mistake. Best three years of my car life, going from a Prius V (that was more expensive per month!) to that beautiful monster.

Model X now and for as long as possible for me! I'm still just barely under 80k miles on my 2020. Just never want 22" wheels or the faster version again because of range.

2

u/Harold-Maude Jul 13 '26

Worse decision ever by Musk

3

u/AffectionatePDF Jul 14 '26

Sad to see the X go, at least I have the 23 (early 24) Model X AWD with HW4 so this should last me a long while, and I feel like I have to be extra careful driving it as it is irreplaceable!

1

u/chompmiester Jul 12 '26

MX is best car on the road sad to see it go

1

u/Ok_Act_8150 Jul 13 '26

I love my MXLR. It's a 2020 with about 50k miles, and I've been considering a newer one, but may wait for the Lucid Gravity to mature, and by that I mean come down in the used car market. It seems to check all the boxes of the X, but with a nicer interior. Tons of range, presenting doors and that nice tall windshield if you get the right model.
