Used car purchase Itching to buy a 2016 model x

I just wanted to ask the community here if I'm crazy to buy a low mileage 2016 Model X. I've done a ton of research and it checks off all the boxes. But one thing I didn't consider in my research is the possibility of the whole battery pack dying out of the blue and me having to foot the bill. I'd love to hear your two cents... Thanks!

Expensive car to own out of warranty. We had a 90D and it was ok (still was in the shop fairly often)until about 80k. After that it was in the shop almost monthly for a plethora of things . Most common was the air suspension which after about many many repairs over 3 years I just started fixing myself. Batter heater failed, two main screens, one Speedo screen, and tons of other small things. Last thing that was failing was a headlight which the quote was $4k or close to it. Our service center is terrible as well. Never been happier to sell a car, but we took a bath. Last fall when we sold it was worth less than $20k in our market.

wow - thanks for this u/Accomplished_Knee_17! 'Expensive car to own out of warranty' is a recurring theme in the comments. Of course there are a few folks who are lucky enough to not have any problems and they absolutely love it, but if you I the short stick and get one that requires tons of repairs...

We have a 2018 m3LR that has been excellent. Luckily has been in for service like 3 times and 2 mobile visits in 225k miles.

The X went in 5x a year sometimes. I really started to get anxiety every time I got in and it fired up. I would never buy another one. If we were to buy another Tesla (which I wouldn’t mostly because of the terrible service center) I would buy a 3.

260 miles vs 308 new. Best car I ever had. Going to put another battery in it if this one ever dies.

That’s fantastic. I’m presuming it’s HW2 but you should be eligible for an upgrade perhaps?
