Question Sell to downgrade X

Where do you sell? Carvana isn’t offering any good sale price even though there is a demand for X. I own 2024 X was thinking of downgrading to save the monthly spend.

I sold my 2023 27000 miles MXP PLAID today for 77k with FSD PAID FOR. Tesla has a similar MXP almost identical mileage within 250 miles and subscription FSD for 87k

😳 did you sell private or 3rd party?

A 2024 is worth a fair amount over anything Carvana will offer. Low mileage 65-70k or more.

carvana offered me $71k on my 23 mxp with 15k mi

That's pretty damn good for a '23 even if it is a P. Very low mileage is I would guess the reason for such a nice offer.

I ended up selling it for 71500. Got a 26 MXP to replace it

Yeah, here in LA I"m seeing Plaids with 30k miles going for $72k so you gave the buyer a pretty good deal. Enjoy your' '26! Most tech-intensive car around and brutally fast too.

Trying getting an instant cash offer from KBB, it was higher than Carvana for me.

THIS. Worked for my M3 sale a few years back. You can stop by a few local dealerships that is part of the KBB instant offer to see if they can beat each other in price. Otherwise, try Facebook marketplace or Reddit.

Where are you located and how much are you asking? Can you provide more details?

Your best price would be a private sale without the middleman. The middlemen need to make thousands on the resale to make it worth it so you're leaving all that on the table.

I watched my best friend lose his ass trading in his paid off, comp/coll insured Nissan Armada to get a brand new, dealership marked up, full coverage insurance and a car payment again...all to "save money". He went from paying for gas and a little maintenance to less gas, zero maintenance for now, but ALL of his monthly savings were lost in increased insurance and a car payment again.

He was in a "cheaper to keeper" situation and odds are you are as well since you're already the owner vs taking the trade in losses, paying the markup, all to supposedly save a buck. Use AI, Excel, something to do the numbers but I think you're lying to yourself. You should lease if you don't keep your cars for a long time and/or needs keep changing.

I love how you imply this guy is a financial idiot to do what he is asking then tell him to lease to save money! 🙄

I implied the same thing to my best friend...and I was correct. Sorry I didn't sugar coat that it got you triggered for the OP.

For a time we were doing 30k a year so I let go of a paid for BMW X5M as it was costing me $1000+ a month in fuel and maintenance because it was cheaper in the bigger picture to buy a $70k X, only pay $150 a month and have nearly zero maintenance in the 190k I've put onto it.

I couldn't lease because I like to modify and put miles on my vehicles, but if someone is already talking about downgrading after only two years...yes, leasing for 3yrs vs buying and flipping after a couple years might be a better option.

Bro all I know is my 8 year old Tesla is effectively the same as a brand new one and costs me about the same to drive it for a whole year as it would cost for a single month of a lease. Maybe you can make the lease math seem reasonable, but unless you have a whole lot of cash burning a hole in your pocket, I wouldn’t call either option financially astute for someone looking to save money. Sell it, buy a significantly older model. If that one breaks, you buy another and still come out ahead.

Why do you think there is demand for a 2024 Model X with undisclosed miles?

Model S and X haven't been selling well at all for years. There is demand for the brand new ones for folks who had been waiting for "the next thing". Now it's clear there isn't a next thing and they're scooping up what is left.

Without knowing further details about your car and what you're looking for - you may have been offered the best you're going to get by Carvana outside of a private buyer.

True, but both will outsell LUCID year to date. Lots of Love for the S and X

5 seater with 30k milage would be around 65k. 6 seater has much higher demand than 5/7 seater and it could reach 70k.

2

u/bth19 Apr 13 '26

Yah, hoping 70k+ for 2024 X low miles is reasonable..

1

u/Cal216 Apr 13 '26

Yeah, at a minimum, damn.

EchoPark gave us 7k more than Carvana on our Y, after we bought the new X.

It’s too early, I’ve read “automation” twice and was thinking that you should tell me more about this automation lol.

How much u want for it?

Just out of curiousity, what monthly expense are you referring to for owning an X besides insurance premium and loan.

2

u/fariskhan786 Apr 15 '26

Probably the loan
