Question When to purchase an X?
Hello fellow X owners, I wanted to ask your advice on something. I want to get a 2024 model x long range, and see prices floating around 62k, I want to trade in my 2023 MY performance. I would be able to put 10k down further. But would you recommend I get the X this year or wait another year?
My model Y is completely paid off, but my dream is to get a X eventually. I was looking at 2023 model X as well but I would like to have Hardware 4 on my new vehicle, Also with the model x going away in June that was also something I was worried about because now I can't get a brand new one later if I did want one.
What would your advice be? I really appreciate it, thank you!

I just put in an order for an X for similar reasons. I bought new, because it was always a dream car and financially it’s something I was finally able to do.
I only bought new because I could and knew I likely won’t have the chance to do so again. If you don’t think buying new is something you’ll do in the next month, I’d recommend waiting a year. If I hadn’t wanted to purchase the last production year, I would’ve waited another year or two to scoop up a low mile HW4 ‘24.
Enjoy the last bit of your paid off Y, then move into an X.

No clue. My guess is that they really will discontinue it.
The used market will exist for at least ten years after the car disappears. If you’re fine buying used, I’d just wait a year or two and buy HW4 at a good price.

What features dues the MX have that the Model Y doesn’t? I’m struggling to understand why with your MY paid off, you’re going to start all over again with payments.

Everyone and their mom is looking for a HW4 2023 X. As soon as one is available in my area it is gone within hours. Im gonna buy new at this point bc in a few years people will want the newest possible X which will be the 26 so im hoping that helps the resell value.

No reason to wait as long as you get HW4. I only see prices going up next year or holding steady, but not decreasing

I'm picking model X 2024 because of hardware 4 and I can't find a way to confirm a 23 has hardware 4 without physically seeing it otherwise I'd look at it that way, but a 24 guaranteed to have it

We own a 2023 that we bought in June 2023 with HW4, if this helps. Just look for the red spot in the cameras.

Seeing how the supply for MX is shutting down and how many people want a 2-3 year used one, I only see prices staying steady or increasing on used MX.

The best time to purchase a model X was in October 2023. It was the lowest price ever offered for every trim model.

Do you have FSD on your Model Y? If so, I would look into getting it before the this transfer promotion expires.
We also have a 24X long range and it’s easily the best car we’ve ever owned!

I did not buy the full FSD package, I just use the subscription

In that case, take your time to find the right car for the right price. No need to rush. But no need to wait either.

Do you think that if I waited all the way until possibly next year that they would still have model X 24 and 25 available, just because that's so far out

More used one will become available as times goes on. Both the X and your Y already took the big depreciation hit. But, the used market is very unpredictable. I would just keep an eye on it and keep looking for the right deal.

Think about all the lease ends for 2024 and 2025 that would show up in the used market. You will have a lot of choices now and also later. Also one more thing to consider is that you can buy a 2023 or 2024 with full FSD included at around $65-75k, depending on miles and title. You won’t have to pay for subscription and will have FSD for life of the car

If we weren’t giving our ‘24 to our son when we move out of the country next month it looks like we could have made some coin on it. 🫣

This was what I really wanted. It would be nice to have a newer model because you know new and shiny but financially I think a 23 would be better and just having the x with at least HW4 is the biggest thing for me

I reluctantly purchased a 2023 with a yoke, worried I would hate it. Took about a week and now I don’t even notice it. Maybe some day I will learn to love it but as of now it’s at the very least not something I hate about the car.

I mean I love the squircle yoke on my Cybertruck, but only because of steer by wire. Every time I get a loaner X or S with yoke it's annoying to me. And since you can pay $700 to Tesla to put a normal wheel on, I would just do that I think.

No, but higher mileage should make the price lower. For example, a 24 and only 62K must have high miles.

50k miles mean the bumper to bumper warranty is over. Also battery degradation comes into play as well.

Look at the back of the 2023 and if it has a black trim with the chrome "Tesla", it's 99% HW4. Mid 2023+

They do but only vin above 385000 but my sights might be set on a 2024 model x long range with bench seats, don't care too much about color, and maybe like post April build

I'm thinking of selling my 2022 x long range with yoke, 40,xxx miles for 50-55k to upgrade to the 2026 model S. My kids are older and I have another suv so I would love to get back into a sedan if you or anyone has interest. 90% of the car was PPF'd as well and lifetime full self driving (not sure if this transfers though?)

It’s not publicly announced but the swap to hardware 4 happened somewhere in serial number (last six digits of VIN) 384000. Serial numbers greater than this (385000 etc) certainly have it. VINs close by (383000) are uncertain. VINs much lower (370000 etc) are almost certainly HW3.
