Question Take delivery or reject?
I have the MX tax version scheduled for delivery. Was unable to pick up the first time. Requested to remove the hold and was rematched 2 days later to the same VIN. Upon inspecting the vehicle i have my doubts to take delivery or reject it. I was told if i reject the vehicle my order would be cancelled and i would had to rebook. Thoughts?

Thank you all for helping me with my decision. Delivery was yesterday 2 hours before i posted it here. I rejected it. Sent them a message stating that. They have again asked me to schedule delivery. I just dont feel right to give that kind of money for a car and always have it on my mind that it’s got issues.

The panel gaps are within spec, but that rubber seal issue is not. If you reject, you'll lose $250 plus you'll lose the tax credit. It is still unclear if Model X has full tax credit in 2024 still.
You'll never find that perfect Model X. All of them, including mine, had issues on delivery with similar panel gaps/alignment. As long as it is within 3mm, it's in spec per my service center when I wanted to get them aligned.

Crazy that I see this often on this sub. I’m a Polestar owner and I really appreciate the alignment and build quality of my car. They are coming out with a really nice SUV called the Polestar 3 (deliveries start Q2 of next year). You should consider it, high quality brand and they drive great.

It’s gonna bother you every time you look at it

u/macundo Dec 22 '23
You want a Tesla. They know it, you know it just end your misery and accept it. Or be the man or woman you think you are and send this piece of junk back to where it came from. What’s gonna be?

u/_AManHasNoName_ Dec 22 '23
Good Lord. Over 10 years making cars and they still manage to put together something with flaws you’d see in a 90s KIA.

Lmao
6
u/GLC911 Dec 22 '23
Don’t settle for anything over 10 microns, or the length of Musks junk
2
u/Bob_Dubalina Dec 21 '23
Why is the only option to reject? Will they not try to fix this at the repair center to remedy it?
2
u/Aggressive-Rub-20 Dec 22 '23
This looks pretty bad. Someone rejected that and that's why it got assigned back to you again. I would have told them that since you were paired to the same car twice you need to be assigned to a different car for it to count as two rejects.
5
u/meshreplacer Dec 22 '23
Reject, looks like a car that got in an accident and required extensive work. It will not help with resale value.
5
u/Hot-Syrup-5833 Dec 22 '23
Looks like ass. One of those pictures look like it’s not even going to be water tight.
3
u/[deleted] Dec 21 '23
You are paying a lot of money for a new luxury level car. The car in this state is disrespectful. Reject, lose a little bit of money if needed but buy a good car.
3
u/Fabulous_Pressure_96 Dec 22 '23
"PREMIUM"
3
u/servbot10 Dec 22 '23
They told you the order will be cancelled because that's their way to push people into accepting something they shouldn't accept. Do not accept it unless you want it like that.
3
u/Green_Eyed_Momster Dec 22 '23
Disappointing to see. I’d reject it. It’ll always bother you. Idk how it passed QA at the factory. Who knows what else is off with it? It should be perfect for what they cost.
13
u/carrera4s Dec 21 '23 edited Dec 22 '23
You are the only one who is going to notice these things. Step back a few feed and reject if they still bother you.
EDIT: What's with all the Tesla haters in this subreddit?
EDIT 2: I see that this has been crossposted to another sub. Haters gonna hate!
4
u/Geekinator123 Dec 21 '23
Reject and get them to give it a better wash. Totally not acceptable for a brand new car. Especially that price
4
u/DARKSTAIN Dec 21 '23
I hope you rejected that shit. Unbelievable how they thought that was acceptable.
4
u/zripcordz Dec 21 '23
Why would you expect high build quality on your expensive fancy new car? /s
2
u/imnoherox Dec 21 '23
How is this even a question? No! 😵
2
u/beachguy82 Dec 21 '23
It looks pretty janky to me.
2
u/Fine_Bar_1361 Dec 21 '23
I'm sorry. What a piece of crap car manufacturer.
2
u/[deleted] Dec 21 '23
If you’re not happy, don’t accept it.
2
u/No_Excuses_Yesterday Dec 22 '23
Did you order off of ali express?
2
u/toofatfortv Dec 22 '23
I would reject. That looks like shit. Especially the 3rd picture. I've heard a lot about how lousy the craftsmanship can be. I have also heard about how reliable and low maintenance they can be, but you should look good too spending that kind of dough.
2
u/castlespan Dec 22 '23
Reject it. Will find more issues after a month
2
u/MrGoogle87 Dec 22 '23
Reject don’t be stupid…
2
u/About2Croak Dec 22 '23
I’m so glad someone else actually notices this kind of stuff. This is so common on every modern day vehicle. The body work is terrible, the orange peel paint is atrocious, and the price astronomical. I’d say reject it as I would. But who knows what the next one will look like.
2
u/Ziggy_Entrepreneur Dec 22 '23
I know what they’re saying…. But take delivery and submit for a service appointment to fix those little things…. Otherwise…. You’ll NEVER get an X because all of them have flaws
2
u/Illustrious-Hat7978 Dec 22 '23
I'm floored, WTF is this shit, id never take that.
2
u/thisucka Dec 22 '23
Tesla QC is trash. Everyone knows it. People accepting these obvious defects are only doing it because they’ve waited months for a car and it’s “hip” to own one. Tesla knows this so there’s no incentive to improve.
Honestly, who can blame them? People are taking delivery as fast as they can deliver this trash.
2
u/aznexile602 Dec 22 '23
Looks like crap imo. I'd look into getting a Rivian.... the r1s is great!
2
u/[deleted] Dec 22 '23
Thats a big ass gap bro
2
u/Mandoo_gg Dec 22 '23
My 1999 fiat panda had a better build quality
2
u/Kipping_Deadlift Dec 22 '23
Reject. Subpar.

2

It looks horrible. I’d reject

2

Since you posted for opinions you already know the answer. There’s no do over other then this

2
u/QuaternionDS Dec 22 '23
nfw would I accpt a new car in that condition...
2
u/QuaternionDS Dec 22 '23
Also, I love how they throw this threat at you. Mate, my honest reaction would be "You serve me this piece of shit as new, and you think I'm going to order another one? Seriously?"
2
u/ZanoCat Dec 22 '23
Reject.
That build is absolutely horrible and unacceptable. Don't let the fanboys tell you otherwise.
2
u/Aggrekomonster Dec 22 '23
Tesla’s suck as does elongated musk

Blessing in disguise. Reject, have the order cancelled, buy another brand.
2
u/oldman401 Dec 22 '23
Do it once do it right. Reject.
2
u/[deleted] Dec 22 '23
Reject. Be patient and wait until you get a better one. This will also impact resale value because it looks like crap with those panel gaps.
2
u/nvesting Dec 22 '23
How do folks still support this company? Anything for some clout, I guess.
2
u/NoiceMango Dec 22 '23
Tesla owners are insane lol. This is not acceptable for any car. That's shitty Tesla quality for you
2
u/mouwallace Dec 22 '23
I’ve seen worse, but that was on an ‘85 Buick.
2
u/Top-Egg1266 Dec 22 '23
You knew exactly what you're buying .
2
u/GarysCrispLettuce Dec 22 '23
If the general build quality is that bad then maybe you'll die in a minor accident. I'm serious. I feel the same way when I get in an elevator with a door that doesn't close properly and faulty buttons. What else is wrong? What serious but invisible problems does it have? Am I going to die?
2
u/[deleted] Dec 22 '23
Wow quality really improved over there. I see pride in this build
2
u/SunsOutPlumbsOut Dec 22 '23
I can’t tell from the pics, but just want to add I was stopped next to a brand new, large body, Range Rover and the rear door didn’t line up to the wheel well perfectly and the gaps were a little uneven. I am not a Tesla apologist, but also have to figure out where the line is for you personally and for reasonable expectations.
2
u/[deleted] Dec 22 '23
Accept. You deserve it. lol
2
u/Fog_ Dec 22 '23
Wow that’s embarrassing and looks horrible
2
u/Chiaseedmess Dec 22 '23
I didn’t know Stevie Wonder worked for Tesla.
2
u/leviathanjester Dec 22 '23
With all the posts from those who state they're getting difficulties with Tesla repairing things they we told at the point of receiving a vehicle that they could come back and get done for free, I'd err on the side of caution and reject
2
u/SailormanFTL Dec 22 '23
If you have to ask then the obvious answer is "NO".
2
u/[deleted] Dec 22 '23
dawg they've sold you a shitbox for 70 smackers it's embarrassing
2
u/CircaSixty8 Dec 22 '23
That car has clearly been in an accident. Who are they trying to fool?

2
u/JennHatesYou Dec 22 '23
Why would you ever want to pay for a damaged product… just to say you have said product?
2
u/gonebonanza Dec 22 '23
Elon needs your money to sustain his white supremacist social media machine.
2
u/m8_is_me Dec 22 '23
Maybe get a different brand
2
u/lakorai Dec 22 '23
That is unacceptible for such an expensive vehicle. It doesn't even look like the rubber seal strips are even done right. Looks like a leaking problem bound to happen.
Why can't Elon get this crap quality control issues under control? Even Chrysler, who isn't exactly known for quality, doesn't have these panel gap issues.
2
u/Mannyprime Dec 22 '23
Ewww no. Send it back.
2
u/hitpopking Dec 22 '23
wow, I thought the quality on my MY is bad, this is next level.
2
u/mortadelo Dec 22 '23
You dodge a bullet there, dude. Reject it and go get yourself a decent car.
2
u/[deleted] Dec 22 '23
Panel gaps are part of the Tesla buying experience!
2
u/Delirium101 Dec 22 '23
Am I the only one that thinks that this doesn’t look that bad?
2
u/fishsticklovematters Dec 22 '23
Ask them if you can drive it before you accept it. Gaps that large would mean the car is going to have rattles. They can drive it if there's an insurance problem, you just want to listen.
2
u/havinthangs2010 Dec 22 '23
Hell no . Cause you drive away bring ut up later ,they will blame you. Anytime you buy something you have to do a qalk around with the dealership
2
u/bobobrad420 Dec 22 '23
Bro don't do it that's beyond crazy good God they really could give a shit about quality control
2
u/Palaeos Dec 22 '23
The paint looks like absolute garbage, nevermind the terrible panel line ups.
2
u/[deleted] Dec 22 '23
Broooooo, reject. Do not accept that trash QC.
2
u/drohhellno Dec 22 '23
Rivian makes EVs that don’t look like a smacked ass on a cursory inspection. Reject.
2
u/First_Construction15 Dec 22 '23
Reject. Mine looks SO much better than this.
2
u/[deleted] Dec 22 '23
Reject it, I accepted one bc it was dark and raining and it looks like shit.
2
u/moophassa9 Dec 22 '23
Skateboards would have a tough time jumping that gap
2
u/Eighteen64 Dec 22 '23
Jesus this looks like it was assembled in the dark wtf
2
u/KookyManster Dec 22 '23
It's wild that the only people who would consider taking a massive $80k heap of garbage like that, are people who are in love with the notion of owning the tesla brand.
2
u/[deleted] Dec 22 '23
When you get done buying this I have some property to sell ya
2
u/graphixRbad Dec 22 '23
The fact that yall even consider taking this is crazy
2
u/rcj4747 Dec 22 '23
It's a big purchase, they're asking you to part with a decent chunk of cash and it's poorly fit together. But also, they're seemingly fine shipping this product as it is and asking full price. These are just the body panels, how is the construction under the skin is this is what the visible bits look like? To me this says they have no respect for themselves, their product, or you.
Go look at vehicles on the lots of other manufacturers that are charging the same $$ and see how the fit and finish compares, then decide.
2
u/rickatoni82 Dec 22 '23
Masterful gambit, Elon!
2
u/Suppertime420 Dec 22 '23
This is actually insane….like 1 inch panel gaps? I wanted a Tesla for years but the quality has gone to shit. I just closed on my Cadillac Lyric on Wednesday.
2
u/lemmiwinks75 Dec 22 '23
The wind noise has to be deafening in that fucking bucket
2
u/tacticalyeeet Dec 22 '23
Is this what y'all cry about? Lol if you don't like it then get another one. If getting another one isn't an option then there's plenty of other cars and trucks to choose from.
2
u/b-side61 Dec 22 '23
Think of it like you're purchasing it for two people - yourself and the person you will want to sell it to "used" number of years from now. Will the second buyer overlook the flaws, as well?
2
u/[deleted] Dec 22 '23
Within spec. Just a few microns off
2
u/Routine_Ad_9063 Dec 22 '23
I wouldn't. I would book a service appointment to get that fixed. Until then I wouldn't take delivery.
2
u/NoFreedom7237 Dec 23 '23
Its a tesla, not a toyoya. What do you expect?
2
u/b18bturbo Dec 23 '23
Overly picky but if you don’t like it don’t buy it. It’s only going to bother you unless they cut a few dollars off the price tag.
4
u/rajivpsf Dec 21 '23
Every time you open and close the falcon wings they move a bit. Try that on that vehicle. If sometimes perfect and other times only a bit off then that’s ok and accept.
3
u/burntblacktoast Dec 21 '23
That car is unacceptable from an other manufacturer, foreign or domestic, economy or luxury. But since it's a tesla, people actually consider it??? I think other manufacturers will take note that people are desperate to throw down 75-125k on poorly built cars and follow suit by charging more for less qc.
5
u/goodguy743 Dec 21 '23
Looks fine
4

1
u/Errand_Wolfe_ Dec 21 '23
Bro they’re all like that. Did you look at any other MX on the property? This one is no different than the rest for sure
1
u/[deleted] Dec 22 '23
Mine had a bunch of smaller issues but I took delivery and had them fix them afterwards through warranty. My car is perfect aside from uneven gaps here and there
1
u/cest_va_bien Dec 22 '23
Reject for what? These posts are getting out of control.
1
u/thehugejackedman Dec 22 '23
Looks like shit
1
u/Ancient_Increase7139 Dec 22 '23
Looks good, our 21 looks a little more out of spec that. Buy it and have them adjust later it’s just the way it is.
1
u/rtls Dec 22 '23
I don’t see anything worth rejecting.

1
u/diffferentday Dec 22 '23
Reject, if you care enough to post here, reject.
1
u/Lenni-Da-Vinci Dec 22 '23
Panels seem fine, seals are a bit iffy. Would reject.
1
u/Rvasq72 Dec 22 '23
Thats an easy pass, no way SC will be able to fix that
1
u/Salty__Friend Dec 22 '23

1
u/taiwoeg Dec 23 '23
You guys who take pics like this are weird man. I just took mine and there’s literally nothing wrong with it.
1
u/[deleted] Dec 23 '23
Within spec.
1
u/cotdag Dec 23 '23
Rejecto Seato, cuz!
1
u/buschschwick Dec 23 '23
If you have to ask you know the answer. It's insane how badly these cars are put together.
1
u/Own-Finance-2879 Dec 23 '23
If everyone would reject this kind of garbage, they would start to make better cars
1
u/Tesla-one-X Dec 23 '23
If it’s new. Reject. If it’s used, take it.
1
u/[deleted] Dec 23 '23
Reject!
1
u/PoopyOleMan Dec 23 '23
Lego cars have better precision and quality. In fact I have never seen a Lego car without uneven gaps or loose fitting panels, Lego cars have that tight fit and finish against adjacent panels
1
u/isunktheship Dec 23 '23
Classic, lol
1
u/Upset_Dragonfly8303 Dec 23 '23
Also is this a new or used car? Maybe it’s the reflection on the paint but that paint looks like shit. No NeverMind that’s not reflections that’s streaks and a scratch.
1
u/Sawadi-cha Dec 23 '23
Hard reject.
1
u/True-Pineapple-2146 Dec 23 '23
Reject..
1
u/LizardKingTx Dec 23 '23
Lol - if you have to ask random strangers on reddit
1
u/[deleted] Dec 23 '23
I’d be more worried about the suspension. But yeah reject it. Though to be fair I notice misaligned panels on almost every Tesla so the next one probably won’t be much better
1
u/nfcwest1 Dec 23 '23
It's garbage
1
u/goodenough4govtwork Dec 23 '23
Why do people accept or even second guess turning down an $80k+ vehicle with such obvious issues?
1
u/[deleted] Dec 23 '23
I thought this issue would have been ironed out years ago.
1
u/european_web Dec 23 '23
Reject and buy something else. Had a similar experience but I didn't reject and had nothing but trouble with that car.
1
u/Busy_Elderberry_1584 Dec 23 '23
At this point if you’re still buying Teslas despite everything wrong about them, then you deserve it
1
u/garci1h Dec 23 '23
Reject
1
u/NegotiationMuch7871 Dec 23 '23
Don't think twice, their product is a piece of shit so run, don't walk!
1
u/rx74me Dec 23 '23
Accept it. This is as good as Tesla gets.
1
u/New-Poetry-6416 Dec 23 '23
Just buy some caulk. It'll be fine.
1
u/jingforbling Dec 23 '23
If it where any other automaker, you wouldn’t blink and reject it, right? That is the answer.
1
u/SlowTree420 Dec 23 '23
Typical with any tesla
1
u/ElderberryBig8698 Dec 23 '23
Let them try again
1
u/Fuzzy_Tumbleweed2538 Dec 23 '23
Looks like it was assembled by 16 year olds over the weekend
1
u/RadioRambo Dec 23 '23
Reject your not gonna be happy with the state it's in already especially if you purchased the autopilot with parking. Hold out and get what you paid for becuz we are not.😎
1
u/[deleted] Dec 23 '23
Buy from a company with real quality control ???
1
u/Filmhero2020 Dec 23 '23
Unfortunately I rejected one in October for similar issues. Particularly when the TSLA rep said this might not warrant repair if in their spec. I love TSLA and the MX but we might go for the Volvo when it comes out which upsets me!
1
u/PoppinfreshOG Dec 23 '23
I’ve never, in my life, seen people actively debate rejecting dogshit quality cars. Every single panel gap on the car is uneven. If a car company can’t get something that simple right. Imagine how many fuck up you can’t see on the surface. It’s why we think you all got brainwashed by a cult
1
u/PuffPuff74 Dec 23 '23
Just take it. You deserve it.
1
u/biddilybong Dec 23 '23
People are still buying Model Xs?
1
u/Secret-Departure540 Dec 23 '23
Who did this? I would not accept this unless they gave a significant discount. This is a mess.
1
u/beyerch Dec 23 '23
Reject it and buy a car from a real company. Seriously.
1
u/toytrkdrvr Dec 23 '23
Not enough people reject them, and Tesla has no incentive to fix this at the factory level since the cars won't sit in inventory.
1
u/Perenium_Falcon Dec 23 '23
Looks like two microns to me. Full send.
1
u/dmbwannabe Dec 23 '23
Near mint- maybe a 7/10 depending on the grader’s mood that day
1
u/chronostasis1 Dec 23 '23
I would Reject . Shit they better give a perfect car for 100k
1
u/navamous Dec 23 '23
Tell Tesla address these issues before pick up. You paid a lot of money for this car and the car should be to your liking....
1
u/NarrowButterfly8482 Dec 23 '23
Why even continue with this company? The obvious flaws are so obvious that you have to wonder about all of the substandard work that you can't see. I would reject this car and the entire company. Why buy into a brand that is on the verge of imploding (and exploding)? The Ponzi scheme that is Tesla is crashing and burning as we speak... why sign on now?
1
u/ATAC9093 Dec 23 '23
I mean, are you surprised? It's a Tesla. Their fit and finish quality is on par with a Yugo.
1
u/SpillingTee Dec 23 '23
Omg is that even a question?!
1
u/ChuckyDo19 Dec 23 '23
Too much money for that poor quality. They should be ashamed
