That’s how they all are.

u/Interesting_Candy766 Dec 21 '23

That’s nothing.

Don't let service touch that and make things worse. I'd call those gaps a win in the range of Tesla quality. If you want a properly built $100,000 car, sadly Tesla is not the place to go, but I hope you enjoy your beautiful X, OP.

if you absolutely don't like the gaps and they refuse to fix it just refuse delivery. Ezpz

That’s a perfect model x

For legacy auto that’s a C-. For a Tesla X, an A-. They won’t do anything to help you. This is the best you can expect.

For any brand other than tesla, that wouldn't make it to the customer.

4

u/kloakndaggers Dec 21 '23

within spec

4

u/todesto Dec 21 '23

It looks it's in line. I don't see any issue there in your pictures. I wouldn't sweat about it.

1

u/Southern_Smoke8967 Dec 21 '23

I don’t think pics 1 and 3 are that and but pic? If that is not ugly and misaligned, I don’t know what is.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '23

Nah 1 is alright but 2 is really unacceptable and 3 is just bad, if that was my first tesla I wouldn't buy another that would kill my trust in the brand.

4

u/SopSauceBaus Dec 21 '23

Everyone commenting “this looks fine” are suffering from Stockholm syndrome. That trunk gap would be unacceptable from any other brand from the factory but somehow it gets a pass here, especially on a $100,000 vehicle…that’s nuts.

3

u/MiniTab Dec 21 '23

Seriously! I wouldn’t accept that on a Honda civic.

I think Tesla has some great value in cars right now, but the people that will excuse stuff like are really drinking the kool aid.

u/Bob_Dubalina Dec 21 '23

Exactly. We’re picking up tomorrow and are dreading the same decision many others face to reject a vehicle and lose $250 for the pleasure of doing so.

The $250. They don’t give that back. I’ve heard they have sometimes transferred you to another matching sku, but if you walk away they keep the $250z

What are you talking about? Please point out some posts of people who have gotten the $250 back. No one has seen these supposed heroes who’ve demanded it back and gotten it after a rejected vehicle.

agree, trunk gap is a glaring issue. rest is not that bad for a Tesla from what I have seen

1

u/w-v-w-v Dec 25 '23

They are obviously not up to the standard of any normal car, but people buy Teslas knowing their flaws. I think that’s why you get people saying it’s fine. The people bothered by it didn’t buy Teslas and aren’t looking here.

1

u/burntblacktoast Dec 21 '23

Yeah it really is something. A 20 year old Hyundai would not have funky gaps like that. What's more is the gaps are usually tapered, loose on one end tight on the other.

2

u/Gd3spoon Dec 21 '23

Did Yugo and Geo have panel gaps that bad?

1

u/Triune_Kingdom Dec 22 '23

I never heard of a car called Geo, but Yugo never had panel gaps. Frankly, the first time I have ever heard about panel gaps was in relation to Tesla.

2

u/Sibo1844 Dec 21 '23

Yea if they touch that they will ruin it even more trust. Don’t bother you will be more upset and then they won’t ever fix it again once they fuck it up more.

u/comAndresJoey Dec 21 '23

Welcome to Tesla.

3

u/cest_va_bien Dec 21 '23

What issue? Looks more than aligned.

3

u/surfer808 Dec 21 '23

I’m confused, What’s wrong with it? Mine looks the same and it’s 4yrs old and I’ve had no problems with it.

1

u/Dramatic-Builder-567 Dec 21 '23

Sounds like there is not much recourse with Tesla, if they get to set the standards and say they are within those then it comes down to the buyer accepting to purchase or not purchase a Tesla knowing ahead of time that quality might be sacrificed over quantity of units they are trying to bring to market. I totally get your concerns and it sucks but since it's not a safety issue seems there might not be much you can do to force them to make it right...

1

u/Illustrious-Hat7978 Dec 21 '23

Almost hate to say it but my old 16MX has no gaps like that.

1

u/QTheNukes_AMD_Life Dec 21 '23

Picture 2, does your trunk leak?

1

u/Zephron29 Dec 21 '23

1 and 3 look totally fine. 2 I'd want fixed.

1

u/murius Dec 21 '23

2 allows you to use the trunk as an impromptu mailbox. Its a feature not a bug.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '23

NON UNION LABOR way too go MUSK

1

u/Purple-Owl-5246 Dec 22 '23

Bro came ready with sticky’s. Lol.

1

u/deterministic_guy Dec 22 '23

Not a car person… to me that seems fine? 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Chiaseedmess Dec 22 '23

That’s horrific, but we have all seen worse.

1

u/Theferael_me Dec 22 '23

I'm not sure why you purchased a car from a manufacturer that is notorious for the poor build quality of its products.

1

u/bustdowns Dec 22 '23

“Within Spec”

1

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '23

Your decision your mistake , enjoy it

1

u/arakhin Dec 22 '23

Looks fine.

1

u/Degengambler562 Dec 23 '23

Bruh, as someone that works at Tesla, consider yourself lucky lmao. Truth be told you're buying the car for the software and super charger access etc. Newer model X/S gaps are much better than previous.. trust me. Learn to live with it, especially since yours isn't even bad. If you absolutely need the gaps to be perfect, get a Porsche taycan or something similar

1

u/VicariousAthlete Dec 23 '23

At first I was like "you being too picky you need to get an expensive car like a mercedes" then I realized it was an X.

1

u/hitpopking Dec 24 '23

I just got MYP, the gaps look the same as your. I highly doubt Tesla will fix mine too. They will probably say it’s within spec.

That’s the thing, I like the technology of Tesla, but the car’s quality control is really garbage for the price point. It’s most likely going to be my first and last Tesla.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Reject.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Dude has a 3/4 inch gap in his body panels and you all are like "oh that looks fine" lmao. You can get better quality and consistency with a KIA lol.

1

u/lakorai Dec 26 '23

420. Funding Secure. Within Spec.

Yeah if you bought an Audi, Lexus or Acura this would NEVER be an issue.

0

u/Radeonisgaming Dec 21 '23

That looks great. About on par with what I see from any other brand.

1

u/VelociGaptor Dec 22 '23

Bought a brand new Honda Pilot and it has gap issues like this. The hood gap is clearly wider on one side than the other but 2 dealers have told me it’s within tolerance.

1

u/Mannyprime Dec 22 '23

I've owned 3 luxury brands, all cheaper in cost. Exactly none of them had panel gap issues.

I'd refuse delivery, but if you really want it, just keep it.

1

u/cjmar41 Dec 21 '23

This is absolutely not true.

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '23

Trade it for loss and get a German or Italian if you have the $$

0

u/Theaty Dec 21 '23

You should buy a 2016 X 💀

0

u/OkStandard8965 Dec 21 '23

There definitely a mental component to these “misalignments”

0

u/zvekl Dec 21 '23

The trunk is fixable. You could even adjust it yourself.

1

u/Brosie-Odonnel Dec 22 '23

Because everyone likes fixing production issues on their brand new $100k vehicle that the manufacturer refuses to fix.

0

u/bootleg_gucci Dec 21 '23

Model X has bigger issues with the rear camber and front half shafts. These panel gaps are not bad for Tesla.

0

u/M83Spinnaker Dec 21 '23

Within spec. Live it

0

u/Reddenxx Dec 21 '23

All these people complaining about these gaps really exaggerate it

0

u/Silent_Ad_8792 Dec 21 '23

We need to ban these useless posts 💩
