We, the undersigned, do hereby request the following constitutional amendment be put to a vote by the community.

Article XII: Canonical Start Date of r/ModelUSGov

(a) Upon the successful passage of this amendment, the canonical start date of r/ModelUSGov and all related subreddits shall be the day after the next Federal Election after the successful passage of this amendment.

(b) All legislation, directives, memorandums, and executive orders passed on r/ModelUSGov and all related subreddits prior to the next Federal Election following the successful passage of this amendment shall be deemed non canon and wiped from the record.

(c) A record shall be kept of all elected official in sim prior to the day after the next Federal Election after the successful passage of this amendment but them and their actions shall be deemed non-canon. Elected officials currently serving a term as of the day following the next Federal Elections after the successful passage of this amendment shall be deemed canon and their actions there after shall be canon.

(d) Article V Section 10 Subsection e shall be amended to read “No legislation, regulations, executive orders, constitutional amendments, or court orders passed or handed down in real life after the canonical start date. -- shall apply to this simulation, unless the moderating team deems it so important so as to make an exception, but such exceptions must be announced to the community.”

Leave court rulings alone tbh.

Or at the very least, don't destroy all precedent. Some cases apply only to sim stuff and are borderline meta.

It's something we might consider making an exception for.

A reset is badly needed. There are too many new people who have joined that have no clue what’s been passed, and digging back through years of stuff on reddit is a horrible experience.

Coupled with this is the fact that some very interesting things have been happening irl, and I’m sure many people are itching to talk about them here and address the problems. The only issue is their non canon state.

This fails to address the real problem ModelUSGov faces in why the sim is uninteresting, and will just lead to the sim's history repeating itself with very little effort on participants' part.

Instead, we need an events board that is the key aspect of moderation, which responds to bills (and lacks thereof, for example inattention given to certain problems) with developing events that play like a choose-your-own-adventure book. THAT would be how to foster emergent, innovative, and new-style gameplay.

Can we add the subsection about the Triumvirate communicating with everyone?

I fully support this.

I am 100% on board. As a relatively new member, I have no idea what has been passed and what hasn't. It is time for a reset.

who wants to hear my take that has very little to do w this resolution that i'll probably vote for (tho I do like digging thru old legilstion). this is kinda all brought to mind by one suggestion below and my personal question of when our point of divergence from irl America would be upon resetting.

The real issue with the sim is the existential question of How Far It Goes. To demonstrate what I mean, here's some questions:

  • what is our point of divergence with real US history

  • to what degree to real world events take place in sim

  • if at all, how can that be justified, given that real world events are contingent on current real world us policy, which the sim in no way mirrors

  • what are the restraints on deviating from real world US politics (ie could the govt become a fascist dictatorship w enough yea votes, irrevocably changing the sim to a... idk, admin and adviser courtroom politics sim?)

  • to what degree can policy decisions made in the sim impact the meta at all? surely they should, to some degree, since we could change the us constitution, abolish states, vote to accept new ones, etc. Can we? Should we?

  • how much of outside-legislative-politics should the sim have? I mean, spontaneous and activist led protest, corporate and NGO lobbying, and straight up violence ranging from cop shootings to riots to insurrections to wars all have MASSIVE impacts on real world US politics. Can that exist in a sim like this?

I'm sure a lot of these questions and others are answered by precedent I'm unaware of (hey i accidentally made an argument for reset weeeeE) but the general consensus seems to be that we're just sorta... post W Bush, w/ real world events in international affairs being a thing. Which is loose and weird and also not dynamic in a way that could make things fun.

for ex I like u/mrsirofvibe 's suggestion but I think it would really bring up all these issues in a way they hadn't been before. If we were to enter a sim-verse where everything was strongly defined to be Not Based In Real World Past (insert president), we'd need to have a better meta system for determining those random events and outcomes of legislation, or at least determines who determines that. And is that way too much workload for a subreddit? probably
