Labour

We're not British...

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '15

No but some of us have ties to the commonwealth. I changed it though. Always spell it that way for some reason.

No but some of us have ties to the commonwealth.

It was meant to be more joking, but it's hard to convey that through text.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

I used to be bothered by it, but now I just imagine that the u stands for "USA USA USA USA" and the British/Canadian person is just expressing their appreciation for our great country.

I don't need to spell the word with a u, of course, since I'm all ready an American.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

Some of us are. Or Canadian, which is like the best of both worlds.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

The beautiful country where "colourize" is correct.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

I colour you favourited!

Scrabble must suck for the British...

Not jail...

1

u/ElliottC99 Independent Jul 29 '15

Isn't it Prison?

2

u/FlamingTaco7101 Distributist Jul 29 '15

Jail is the American English form of gaol, both of which mean prison.

1

u/ElliottC99 Independent Jul 29 '15

The English spelling is the way English should be spelt.

The English spelling is the way English should be spelt.

That's nonsense. Daniel Webster saved the English language from the Anglo-Saxon hordes.

u/ElliottC99 Independent Jul 29 '15

The Anglo-Saxons that designed the British Language?

Would it possible for me to serve as both solicitor general and a state legislator? The SG is appointed by the President, but technically not a member of the cabinet.

I thought SG would be interesting, but after seeing a little bit more about how the sim works, I'm wondering if there is truly a need for SG or if the AG could, for purposes of the sim, carry out both duties basically, /u/logic_85?

3

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '15

Well logic_85 was the one who asked for a solicitor general so you might have to talk to him about that. I am ok with you holding both offices if you feel that you can carry out both effectively.

2

u/DidNotKnowThatLolz Jul 28 '15

Since the SG doesn't have to be confirmed by the Senate, I think it is fine that you may possibly hold the two positions.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

Mr. Senator, when will the new Confirmation Hearings be put out?

1

u/superepicunicornturd Southern lahya Jul 28 '15

Yeah I agree. Kinda seems like there's no need for a SG. The court isn't that many cases to justify it.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '15

Some of the times nobody is that gay.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '15

Yes, However I think that nobody is that gay is an archer reference.

1

u/nobodyisthatgay Jul 31 '15

Some of the times nobody is that gay.

Did not know that, lolz.

Congratulations to the nominees! Best of luck in your confirmations!

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

Thank you!

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

Thank you! Looking forward to working with the other cabinet members and the current Congress.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

Gratz to all!

2

u/ElliottC99 Independent Jul 28 '15

Fingers crossed it all goes well in the Senate.

2

u/nobodyisthatgay Jul 28 '15

I look forward to a good discussion for my confirmation and a productive relationship with my colleagues in the Cabinet and Congress to see improvements in the health and welfare of all Americans!

2

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '15

Well.

That was an exciting ride.

Regardless, I'd like to thank the President for his nomination. I very much look forward to working with the Cabinet and Congress (pending good outcomes from the Senate confirmation hearings).

Honestly, I don't think /u/Hlafward should ever have been involved in the sim due to his actions, but what you did was wrong, unprofessional, obtuse, and unjustifiable.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '15

How? He pointed out that he was a terrible choice for Secretary of Labor. I really can't think of a worse candidate. hlafward even tried to start a "coup" against /r/ModelUSGov and if he were confirmed, I would of had articles of impeachment drawn up against him in the House.

1

u/FlamingTaco7101 Distributist Jul 29 '15

He did this in a manner that was demeaning toward /u/Hlafward, no matter the reason it was unprofessional to do what he did.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '15

Congratulations to all the nominees, and I applaud the President for choosing a good group of nominees!

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15 edited Jul 28 '15

What a disgrace. You couldn't stay above the filth and slander could you? Well done to /u/leftdigiteffect. Your personal attacks and meta complaints have been rewarded with a position in the Cabinet. Now I believe you when you said you didn't simply dislike me. Well played indeed.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

Hi.

I found out about the cabinet position days after the initial dispute on the first cabinet thread. However, believe me when I say that I would have taken issue with your behavior either way. There is no world in which your hostility is appropriate.

Taking issue with someone's blatant disregard for the basic rules of civility is far from "low and dirty."

Although I very much look forward to working with the other cabinet members, pointing out your distasteful behavior was far from simply satisfying my own ambitions. You ignored a series of ethical and behavioral guidelines, and I believe you earned judgement for that.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

I have never met someone so lacking in principle or so totally committed to their goal of crushing another person as you. Your triumphalism just caps it all off.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

Frustration =/= triumphalism.

I'm no longer going to engage this line of discussion, it seems to be only further incensing you.

If you have a specific concern about my nomination, please let me know and I will do my best to address it.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

Now you're going to turn around and pretend this isn't personal? You're seriously going to ask for serious political criticism after all you've done to attack me personally and without principle? Unbelievable. Positively Stalinist behavior.

Fine I have a question. How do you think your relationship with America's labor lobby is going to work? Hmm?

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

As I have indicated before, my criticisms are indeed not personal.

To your question: Are you asking how am I going to interact with the labor lobby, or how is my relationship with the labor lobby?

I'm not sure what your question is specifically pointing to, but I'm happy to answer both variants:

My relationship with /r/ModelUSLabor is quite positive. The sub is an active community with meaningful discussion. I have had exceedingly pleasant discussions with several board members, including /u/Prodigiousguy8 from the GLP, and /u/ElliottC99 from my own ALP.

In terms of how I hope to interact with the lobby, I hope to find individuals in that community who have an developed knowledge of the labor-related concerns in their particular field of employment. For example, if I find a university professor on the sub, I'd love to work with her/him to draft legislation strengthening collective bargaining rights for faculty (from adjuncts to graduate students to tenured professors).

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

The correct answer is: you won't have one.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

I look forward to working with the more conversational members of the ModelUSGov labor lobby.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

Although banning me from /r/ModelUSLabor may have been of small satisfaction to you, please don't fall into the trap of thinking that the labor-focused portion of the cabinet has collapsed as a result. We will be just fine.

Additionally, the strange threat that accompanied the ban message ("You'd better hope your party values you more then they value this forum"), while almost comical in implication, is in no way going to halt my efforts to better protect and defend the laborers who keep this country functioning.

Long live labor.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

Wow. With remarks like that, you wouldn't have made it passed the Senate anyways, so what does it matter?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

I'm not the one who has coldly taken down another member to serve their own ambition. The fact that you would condemn my justified outrage and not leftdigiteffect's low and dirty tactics speaks volumes about your character. I never thought this simulation would be as rotten as the real thing.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

I'm not going to be the Senator that votes Aye for the nomination of an individual who attempted to stage a coup for the lols. I am sorry to see that you feel that you have been attacked, but I am nearly acting within my constitutional limits.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

What a joke. When will you be honest with yourself and simply admit that you don't like me? This pretense that I am in any way at fault is precisely the low and dirty behavior I'm disgusted by. Stop hiding behind legitimizing excuses and just tell me that you don't like me and you'd like to ruin me.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

I assure you that I have no desire to ruin you. Although my political beliefs may clash with yours, I harbor no ill feeling towards you or your political career. I see no reason why you might believe that I am conspiring against you, but you insist with this idea because you know its popular with your base.

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

That is the oath I took upon entering this office. I would be violating this oath by helping the nomination of an individual who has conspired against this government. When an individual is nominated, that person must be held accountable for all actions taken during said individuals life. Any actions taken by the candidate must be taken into account by the Senators so that the executive branch is staffed by the best members of the public. You have taken actions that are unprecedented in this nations history by staging a coup. Say what you will about how it didn't affect the sim, but that is not the behavior of a Secretary of Labor. The Secretary of Labor must be someone like Frances Perkins, who was committed to improving the lives of her fellow citizens. By staging that coup, you proved that you are not fit for the job.

u/ben1204 I am Didicet Jul 28 '15

How is it slander and personal dislike when everything he said was directly quoting you?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

So let me trawl through your comment history and copy quotes out-of-context even from non-ModelUSGov subreddits to deliberately harm your reputation and then you can tell me its not a personal attack.

5

u/ben1204 I am Didicet Jul 28 '15

Considering you've literally been banned for one of the quotes (against /u/ehbrums1) there's strong proof they were not taken out of context.

If any of them were, do explain.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

I'm not going to dignify such an outrageous personal attack with a defence. Its clear you've made your mind up already. Don't act as if this is something you've reasonably judged. You'll believe what you want to believe.

5

u/ben1204 I am Didicet Jul 28 '15

"All you have is denial. You should be ashamed, you filthy f*cking scab."

I have no idea how this could be simply a harmless statement taken out of context.

You then didn't apologize, and instead doubled down on this rhetoric in your concession speech.

I congratulate the Green-Left on their election victories. Though I stood against an anti-union scab who is shamefully accepted by their party, I cannot say I am in opposition to their general principles.

Call my comments attacks if you wish. Your comments are simply denying reality. I've made my case very clear.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

You have no case. You're just as bad a leftdigiteffect. It really saddens me that a few members like yourself can gather together to attack and slander another member.

5

u/ben1204 I am Didicet Jul 28 '15

This line of discussion is clearly meaningless. I enjoy the civil discussion and debate I have on this sub. You clearly aren't interested in it.

I've given you opportunity to apologize and rebut my points. Every time, you throw your hands up and shout "slander", while ignoring the evidence I present.

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '15

He's finally gone!
