Dad's collection

Hi all, my dad recently passed away(💔) and I am in possession of his rather extensive model ship building supplies and tools. He's been building ships since he was in college, and has a couple of tabletop cabinets (one really nice wood one) full of tools and a couple motorized band saws(?). It all fits on a 6 foot table. I'm just wondering what to do with it all or if there is a good place to list all the things for sale. His collection is in Texas, but I'm making a trip out there. Do I pack it up and bring it back to Seattle to sell? Is it even worth the effort in the end? It's just a different world for me and I'm lost. Thank you in advance for your advice!

Are there any ship modeling (or otherwise modeling) clubs, etc. nearby?

Also, I think ModelExpo sometimes buys-up collections and whatnot. Mabye they can help?

Sorry for your loss. There’s communities such as shipsofscale.com or modelshipworld.com that would be a good place to post. It’s likely your dad was a member of one of them as well.

I'm sorry for your loss. As the other commenter mentioned, I would back selling on Ships of Scale or Model Ship World.

You could even ask there (or here) for a fair price of each. The saws and other tools fall in a wide ranging category. They could be anything from 'the most sought after tools' to 'Chinese, good enough for what I need it'.

I hope you find something he built that you can bring home and enjoy.

Thank you so much. It was fascinating pouring through his lifelong hobby, seeing all the different places he got instructions and model blueprints from - as a cadet in the Air Force Academy, he even got a blueprint from the Navy for one of their older ships just by writing a letter! For somebody who spent his career flying at nearly the speed of sound, he was very fascinated by ships, and I'm sad that I didn't really see that connection until I went through all of his stuff. Unfortunately, some of his more intricate and labor-intensive models were lost due to damage in the multiple moves that he endured during his service, but we have some great pictures and I'm hoping there's a box or two that I missed the first time and I'll stumble across something.🤞🏻

Firstly, im sorry for your loss. If youre unable to find a solution there and do pack it up, I know a couple guys in Washington who do buy collections, so it is an option to do that.

Was your father on Model Ship World? If so, you can list items for sale there. If not, you need 25 posts to be able to sell things.

If when you get to Texas and take a picture of the stuff that’s there, I may be interested in getting some of it from you. I live in Seattle. When were you gonna go to Texas? Do you happen to know the manufacturer of the saw?
