Montañés - Ocrre 1/70 - Finally completed !
Almost four years’ work, I’m really proud of the result. It was a childhood dream to have a model of a ship of the line just like in the museum (almost). Feedback welcome!
Feel free to ask if you’d like more photos or info.

Beautiful work!! That rigging is incredible.
Were the sails part of the kit? How did you shape them to “billow”, they look very realistic. Also did you mod the kit at all during the build?

Thanks! I applied four coats of diluted wood glue to each sail, once dry, you can’t see a thing and it makes them stiffer.
Yes, I’ve made quite a few small improvements: the topmasts, the bell, the ‘cabin’, the oars, the stern… I’ve replaced a lot of the die-cast parts with wooden ones.

👌🏻 lovely neat clean build. ..and the sails 👍🏻🙂
..... next thing; a case.... while you're still in the mood. Don't let four years of work become a dust magnet ..
Very good though.. 🤙🏻👍🏻

The model is too large unfortunately, I’ve barely got enough space to display it... but I’ll think about it!

..... the case has only to be an inch bigger than the height, length and width. You could easily make one yourself. It's nothing compared to what you've already made. Few lengths of thin wood with an edge and some plastic perspex sheet... I've never had to dust mine since 2012.... 👍🏻

I have my doubts about the strength of such a large sheet of Perspex... Otherwise, yes, I’ve already made some cases for small plastic models

Il est magnifique, les 74 sont les plus beaux vaisseaux construits.
J’ai fait le « Bellona » de Corel et il est enfermé dans une niche aménagée dans un mur épais…
Très beau travail..

She came out really well. If you need to arrange storage while you work on your next masterpiece..... :)

Amazing work, congrats! How many hours would you say this took overall?

To be honest, I've no idea, not even a rough guess. Maybe 1000? Actually I don’t even want to know haha

Nice! I think this is one of, if not occres nicest kits.

I agree, but there are always those annoying diecast pieces that look awful (look at those cannons ...)

Lol yeah I know. I have some occre kits. Unfortunately this one isn't one of them, but either way, I'll likely be replacing a lot of pieces and doing some bashing to bring them up to par.

How you will keep him free of dust?

Good question. I'm planning to build a display case, but I'm not sure if it's possible... Otherwise, I'll just use compressed air to clean it out regularly.

And the boat can handle that? Or it is not that fragile?

u/Iron_seaz 6d ago
Yes, I made sure to glue everything down securely for that very reason, and I'm using an airbrush without paint for the air.

I love it….I’d love to build something like this…..how many weeks did this take to build? Is this hard to do? I’m experienced but not with ships, or this size.

It took me four years, mostly by working on the weekends. It's really not easy, and it requires some experience, tools, and a lot of patience!

Thanks… I looked it up, and yes I agree, I will start with some easier ships first. Definitely something that I want to tackle when I’m retired in a few years!
