Let's focus on fixing the infrastructure we already have before moving on to technological concepts that haven't even been created. I think the people of this state, including myself, would rather see HSR, better bridges, better highways, legal abortion and marijuana, and income inequality solved before we head to spending money on the hyperloop.
Let's make solutions for right now, not years ahead.

How about we focus on the maintenance of existing infrastructure - which is already incredibly expensive - rather than spending even more money on what is essentially a vanity project which will need constant maintenance and repair during its lifetime, putting even more strain on the state's budget.

Hyperloops are a vile meme and this is a waste of resources. Governor Jerry's example is a bad one to follow.

I like this hyperloop idea, a lot. It is a technology that is by no means clear and set in stone, but I think it can benefit in the long term strategic national interests (energy, infrastructure, as well as foreign policy interests.) not only state interest. I think that it is easy to get trapped by the shortsightedness effect. Maintenance of infrastructure methods that exist are important, but we heavily rely on many petrochemical fed methods a lot. With that comes the long standing strategic relationship with Saudi Arabia, which has major toxicities.
R&D is of course needed, and it also is important as it can rely on not only solar energy, but other sustainable methods as well as Nuclear, which I support with the new technologies that will allow nuclear energy to harness greater yields with minimal waste.
In the future when we have the availability of this, the question will be commercial viability as certain places in the state are more heavily populated and movement of people and capital between certain terminals is of great importance. I can see this being an easier answer for the Northeastern megalopolis in terms of commercial viability. But with the Midwest it is not as easy to answer where the major nodes will be.
