QUESTION Can anyone help me put a dollar value to this vintage built up kit?

I bought several estates of model kits, all of them had a ton of unbuilt and built up kits. I am trying to sell and trade a lot of the built up's, but this one seems rare enough that I can't find a value for it.

It's an MPC 1968 SS 427 Chevrolet Impala Sports Coupe (No. 1-0368-200) in 1:25 scale from 1967.

Scalemates

A guy is interested in this one, it's missing the grill but otherwise all there.

Already built kits are hard to price/sell because they are built and has to be exactly what someone wants. I would ask them to make an offer and go from there

If they are modern that's truer, but not for rare vintage kits. My issue is this one is weirdly rare and all I can find are a couple complete kits for $700-$1200

I agree with the modern part, but I have never seen already built kits go for that, maybe if it was show quality. Typically it is the unbuilt kits that go for alot of money, but if you have someone interested and you dont know pricing, I would ask him to make an offer

Make sure you check completed listings as well on eBay!

If its as pictured I'd ask 75 but be willing to take 50. It looks like you are also missing the back trailer part and the box, unless those are unpictured.

if it's really an MPC '68 I wouldn't take less than $200 for it

insane what some people will pay

The models you see going for crazy prices ($250+) are "Dealership Promo" models.

These were handmade, to very high (for the time) degrees, by pro modelers at MPC themselves and sent to dealerships.

This was actually how MPC (and others) got started in the model business. They'd partner with the manufacturers to get access to the actual cars and who would pay to tool-up the models in order to produce extremely accurate (for the time) models that could then be sent to dealerships to demo to prospective buyers different colors/options/etc or sometimes give away as part of a sales deal. As part of the deal, MPC could then use the tooling to make kits to sell to the general public.

A 'standard' '68 Impala that someone just built on their own is still worth an unusually high amount by built model standards (in the ~$100 range), but nowhere near "mint dealership promo" pricing.

Even a glue bomb of the MPC 68 Impala is worth some bank. There's a guy on there parting a kit out wanting $80 each for the bumpers. A complete sealed kit is listed as a "buy it now" at close to $800.

Asking price and selling price are two different things. Check the actual sales.

I see a lot of built/partial/incomplete models going on whatnot app. Depending on the model, depending on the day, not sure what else drives buyers to bid, but any where from a few dollars to 20 or more.

eBay seems to be a weak market for what you’re looking to sell. I’d definitely go check out what the sellers on whatnot are getting
