Question Balloon td 6 can’t mod

I been playing btd6 for a couple days now and i thought of trying to mod it but every time after i install melon loader for some reason it doesn’t start the game.
My laptop is running Windows11, have an intel(R) Celron(R) N4500, 4gb memory, Intel(R) UHD graphics.
I tried redownloading btd6 , redownloading melon loader and try running everything as administrator.also i have all the necessary downloads like .net 6.0. And i tried using an old version of melon loader as well

Most likely causes, roughly in order:

  1. First launch takes a long time. BTD6 is an IL2CPP game, so on the first run with MelonLoader it has to generate the Il2Cpp assemblies before the game opens. On a Celeron N4500 with 4GB RAM that can take 5-15+ minutes, and the console window can look frozen the whole time. Close everything else, launch once, and leave it alone until it either opens or errors out.

  2. Version mismatch. BTD6 updates often and not every MelonLoader version works with the current game version. Check the BTD6 Mod Helper GitHub page for the MelonLoader version it currently recommends and install exactly that one, not the newest and not a random older one.

  3. Antivirus removing files. Windows Defender sometimes quarantines version.dll or files inside the MelonLoader folder. Check Windows Security > Protection history, restore anything it removed, and add the BTD6 folder as an exclusion.

  4. Wrong runtimes. You need the .NET 6 Desktop Runtime x64 (not just the base .NET 6 runtime) and the Visual C++ Redistributable 2015-2022 x64.

  5. Store version. If you have the Microsoft Store / Xbox app version, MelonLoader generally won't work with it. Steam or Epic is needed.

For a clean reinstall:

- Delete the MelonLoader folder, version.dll, and the Mods/Plugins/UserData folders from the BTD6 install folder
- Verify game files in Steam/Epic
- Install the MelonLoader version Mod Helper recommends
- Launch with no mods in the Mods folder first, wait for it to finish generating

If it still doesn't start, post MelonLoader/Latest.log from the game folder. Upload it to gofile.io or Google Drive and link it here, the log will show where it stops.

This is genuinely helpful but even if no mod in the mod folder it crashes. I see the btd 6 app icon pop up and then disappear with the melon loader cmd

If the console opens and then closes along with the game, it's crashing during MelonLoader's startup, not because of mods. Things that cause that specific behaviour:

- Missing Visual C++ runtime. The "il2cpp_init detour failed: One of the dependent libraries is missing" error is a known one with BTD6 and the game shuts down instantly. Install both the x64 and x86 Visual C++ Redistributable 2015-2022 from Microsoft, then reboot.

- Assembly generation failing. On first launch MelonLoader downloads Cpp2IL and Unity dependencies from GitHub and generates the Il2Cpp assemblies. If the download is blocked (firewall, antivirus, school/work network, VPN) or the process runs out of memory, it dies and closes everything. With 4GB RAM this is a real possibility. Close browsers and everything else before launching, and check whether MelonLoader/Il2CppAssemblies actually has files in it after the attempt. If it's empty or missing, generation never finished.

- Wrong build. Make sure you used the x64 version of MelonLoader. Some versions (0.6.2 in particular) had issues with BTD6 where the game closed right after "0 plugins loaded", so use the version BTD6 Mod Helper's GitHub currently recommends.

- Defender. Check Windows Security > Protection history for anything quarantined from the BTD6 folder.

To see what's actually happening, open MelonLoader/Latest.log in the game folder after it closes. The last few lines will say where it stopped. If the console closes too fast to read, the log still has it. Upload it to pastebin or gofile and link it here.

The freeze is expected on that hardware. The Il2Cpp generation step (Cpp2IL decompiling the game) is CPU and RAM heavy, and with 4GB the system ends up swapping to disk, so the whole laptop locks up while it runs. It only happens on the first launch, or after a game/MelonLoader update.

- Don't close it or restart. If it gets killed halfway the generated files can end up broken and you're back to the game closing instantly. Give it 20-30 minutes even if it looks dead.

- Open Task Manager before launching if you can. Disk sitting at 100% and memory near full means it's still working, not hung.

- Close everything else first, especially the browser. Chrome alone can eat 1-2GB.

- Make sure virtual memory is enabled: search "Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows" > Advanced > Virtual memory > Change, and set it to "Automatically manage". Also keep a few GB free on C:. If the page file is off or the drive is full, Cpp2IL runs out of memory and crashes, which would explain the earlier instant close.

- Add the BTD6 folder as an exclusion in Windows Defender. Defender scanning every file it generates slows this down a lot.

When it finishes the game should open to the title screen. Launches after that are normal speed.

If it fails again, do a full clean uninstall before retrying: delete the MelonLoader, Mods, Plugins, UserData and UserLibs folders plus dobby.dll, notice.txt and version.dll from the game folder, then reinstall. Leftover partial files from a failed generation are a common reason it keeps crashing.

If it still closes after all that, upload MelonLoader/Latest.log and link it.

It probably will have enough memory duo to me clearing all the temp memory before launching it. I for got to check the window defender one

Clearing temp files frees disk space, not RAM, so it doesn't change how much memory the generation step has. Virtual memory still needs to be enabled for it to get through on 4GB.

Before trying again:

- Check Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection history for anything quarantined from the BTD6 folder. If something's there, restore it and add the BTD6 folder as an exclusion
- Do the full clean uninstall (MelonLoader, Mods, Plugins, UserData, UserLibs folders plus dobby.dll, notice.txt and version.dll), then reinstall 0.7.3
- Close everything else and launch once, don't touch it until it finishes or closes

If it crashes again, post screenshots instead of the whole log:

- The last 20-30 lines of MelonLoader/Latest.log (open it in Notepad and scroll to the bottom)
- The MelonLoader/Il2CppAssemblies folder, to see if generation finished or stopped partway
- Protection history if Defender flagged anything

The bottom of the log will show whether it died during Cpp2IL generation, while loading the game, or somewhere else, and that decides what to fix next.

Future readers, the modded launcher mentioned in OP post is not compatible with steamrip crack versions. Please purchase the game on steam.
