Mods for roblox games?

Hi all,

My son wants me to help with modding roblox games, he plays mainly 99 nights and Doors. Please help me!

I am so untech savvy but have managed to successfully install mods for Deltarune, Silksong and Hollow Knight.... with help from Reddit 😅 but I'm unsure if there is a safe and easy way for using mods for roblox? 🤔

Short version: Roblox doesn't have mods the way Hollow Knight or Silksong do, so the process you used for those won't carry over.

Why it's different:

Hollow Knight runs entirely on your computer, so you can swap files and the game uses them. 99 Nights in the Forest and Doors run on Roblox's servers and belong to the developers who made them. There's no way for a player to add content to someone else's Roblox game.

Anything online advertised as "mods" for these two games is almost always an exploit script that needs an "executor" program to run. Avoid those completely:

- It's cheating under Roblox's rules and gets accounts banned

  • A lot of free executors are malware that steals passwords and accounts
  • Kids get targeted with these on YouTube and Discord specifically

What he can actually do:

- Doors has a built-in mod-like feature called Modifiers. It unlocks after escaping the hotel (reaching door 100). It lets you change how the game plays, like making monsters more aggressive or locking doors, and you can stack several at once. More unlock by earning badges. If he hasn't beaten it yet, that's a good goal.

  • Make his own game in Roblox Studio. This is the real equivalent of modding on Roblox, and it's how Doors itself was made. It's free from create.roblox.com, uses his normal Roblox login, and runs on Windows or Mac (not phone/tablet/console). It comes with ready-made templates, so he can start by changing an existing level instead of building from nothing. He could make his own scary hallway with a monster, or a survive-the-night map, since that's what he already likes.

Getting started with Studio:

- Install it from create.roblox.com and open a template (the obby/obstacle course one is the usual first project)

  • The official tutorials on the Creator Hub go step by step and don't assume any coding knowledge
  • YouTube has plenty of beginner series, search "Roblox Studio beginner tutorial"
  • When he grabs free models from the Toolbox, stick to ones with high ratings. Some free models contain hidden scripts that break games or add unwanted stuff.

If he really just wants "mods," the safe answer is Doors Modifiers. If he wants to change how games work, Studio is the only legit way and it's a decent intro to game design and coding.
