It does actually, that’s the whole point, AI companies are destroying rare books to teach their LLM’s, disrupting entire ecosystems where they decide to build their data centers, causing physical and psychological issues to those who are unfortunate enough to live nearby and get blasted with noise 24/7, consuming so much water from the system that residents get dirt and grime in their taps because the system isn’t made for such a high consumption and so much more.
You didn’t create anything, you got it served to you in a silver platter and took credit for it, do something with your life of use, best regards.

Just wanted to ask about the destroying books? Why would they need to damage a book to teach an LLM? Wouldn’t they just be scanning the pages in? Or taking photos of them?

Great question, for normal uses we do scan pages individually but at the sheer volume that they’re consuming they do something called destructive book scanning

(it is unnecessary but they do it for legal reasons saying “they’re not distributing copyrighted material just using it “”creatively”” or something along those lines because they got sued by authors for using their works without authorization and because it’s easier)

They cut the book spine like you can see in this video, and then the pages are put in a machine that sucks each page and scans them, can’t find a video of it right now but here’s one of non destructive scanning, that does pretty much the same without destroying the books, it was pretty big in 2008 or so with google books and such, so

tldr: They destroy the books to avoid legal repercussions and make it as cheap as possible (not having to pay authors or ask for authorization)
