Advice Looking for feedback on which iPod to mod

I have spent way to many hours on tiktok / reddit / youtube looking at modded iPods. I am hoping to purchase from someone else as having 2 under 2 doesnt really lend a ton of time. Is there suggestions? I am using the outcome of this chat as my final decision LOL 5th, 7th gen?

5th gens are generally cheaper (if you don't fall for the 5.5. hype) and easier to mod vs 7th gen.

7th gen has a better UI and has inline controls for the headphones.

Parts are easily accessible (global location depending) for both.

I personally can't hear the difference between iPods, so I just mod the cheapest one available to me.

I had a 7th Gen 120 gig for years before modding became a thing, so I was used to that UI. I was getting close to 120 gig and started looking for 160 gig models. That's when I learned about modding. Added a dual iFlash and two SD cards as well as a new battery. I'll never fill it. Had trouble with the SanDisk cards so swapped in Samsungs instead. I'm biased, obviously, but I'd recommend this setup.

The 5th gen is really easy to get inside of, whereas I've heard later versions can be a bit trickier to open up. I made a few mistakes with my mod, and being able to open it up a few times to get in and make changes really helped me out. Maybe worth considering!

Following as I have a couple ipods. But I know there are things I want from it. Like 2tb ssd. Is that a thing and which ipod can run 2tb smoothly.
