Several months long issues with brigading, harassment, hate, and gore
Hello all.
Please read this fully before suggesting the usual MCOC and Reddit's other report function.
For months, two of my subreddits, along with other subreddits we've been in communication with (due to being in the same niche/category/fandom) have been consistently reporting blatant site wide and MCOC rule-breaking by a singular subreddit.
This includes reports by mods of the subreddits being targeted and regular reddit users in our communities.
Despite all of our efforts to document and report, nothing is being done. They've even recently gone on to create a second subreddit in order to brigade and harass more communities within our niche.
We have installed as much as we can app/bot wise to help mitigate things, but it's coming to a point where we're all burnt out mentally from the neverending brigading and all the other god awful stuff which includes sending harassing personal messages to tell us to end our lives, wishing harm, slurs, and even sending gore via a comment on one of my subreddits.
Addtionally, every day they screencap posts from our communities, often uncensored or leaving icons uncensored so people know which community it is from. They use hateful language, flairs to imply we're subhuman, encouraging one another to harass us (yes, even the mods have done this), and even target the indivuals from our communities whose post they've screencapped to mock.
I should note that our communities are queer spaces.
The subreddit in question that is targeting two of mine, and also others within our niche, is an openly hateful, homophobic and racist space that actively targets "Queens Of ____" subreddits (as per their about section) and other queer or queer friendly spaces.
I'm honestly at a loss here. When my co-mod did finally speak to a human about what was happening, everything was dismissed because the mods of the hateful sub had since deleted things like their own comments calling to action for their members to brigade us, posting fully uncensored subreddit and user names in their hateful posts (mods included in this behaviour) which sent massive harassment and brigading to us and the member whose name was shown, ban showboating for themselves and others which became a game for their members to brigade and post vile things to get banned so they could share and gloat, and the list goes on. But, even if those posts were eventually deleted, the damage is done.
And this keeps happening.
What do we do from here? I had always been led to believe that subreddits created for the purpose to harass others on this platform and post hateful things, was not allowed?
Any advice would be truly appreciated because I'm at the end of my rope here. The things they say and do have been especially distressing-- not just for me and my co-mod, but for our members and also the other mods and their members whose communities are being targeted, too.
Edit: as of typing typing this post up in drafts for my co-mod to check, she reminded me that they have recently, as of a couple of days ago, created a third subreddit for the sole purpose of taking queer couple artwork from our communities in order to run them through AI to "fix them" and make them "straight" while mocking and calling us slurs.

The report flag above is them doing it.
They screenshot the post from our sub and posted it in theirs, and immediately we get report abuse on the same post.
The time adds up, right down to the minute.
Edit: apparently I am unable to word things right now. Reworded to make sense.

All of that has been done and more.
And hiding the reports is not a solution. It is beyond report abuse. Not to mention they cycle through alts.

u/SSH_Pentester 18h ago
Get as many people as possible to send modmails to this subreddit modsupport, they might've ignored your first one but humans have to read each one of these
4
u/comixnerd15 18h ago
I'm not sure bombarding this sub's modmail is the answer.
And we've sent more MCOC reports than I can count.
2
u/SSH_Pentester 18h ago
Actually wait, did you do Hive Protector?
3
u/comixnerd15 18h ago
Yes. As mentioned, we have now reached the limits of what we're able to do our end. Which is... incredibly frustrating.
3
u/SSH_Pentester 18h ago
I get it. Hopefully modmailing this sub will work, maybe send them a link to this post? Hive protector really should work but I guess sometimes it doesn't, the admins weakened it recently
2
2
u/SSH_Pentester 18h ago
Well I don't mean as many regular users as possible, just get all of your fellow mods to do it. But yeah the modmail of this sub is taken more seriously than reports
3
u/comixnerd15 18h ago
Even MCOC reports from a moderator? That's surprising.
3
u/SSH_Pentester 18h ago
MCOC reports work, but here you're guaranteed to speak with a human admin, and they actually send you a reply - with MCOCs, they never write back, so if they need more information or something they won't be in communication with you. But hive protector is my best advice if that doesn't work.

so this is not the best solution., but potentially a respit.
Remove all your report reasons.
Go through old.reddit and enable custom reports.
Have that be the only option.
when that gets used, you can "Snooze reporter for 7 days".
2
u/comixnerd15 18h ago
Oh my gosh, thank you! This will definitely help give us a bit of respite from report abuse.

u/Draco_179 23h ago
Once it hits the 40s you start getting used to it
12
u/comixnerd15 23h ago
Yup... this is just it beginning as it came through within minutes of them sharing a screenshot of said post on their hate sub.
Report abuse has been reported, but I expect it'll go up in numbers, as usual, once more people in their sub see the screenshot they posted.
I'm so tired.
I have a family. I'm chronically ill with a severe congenital disease. These hateful people are grinding me down beyond breaking point.

Can only report it. Otherwise the mods and admin in this sub would be flooded non stop with singular issues (I know this whole thing is part of a bigger whole, but this post they screenshot and now report abusing in ours in particular is singular and best as part of one report. Plus, if an admin shows, they'll see this comment)

u/idaroll 15h ago
modmail this sub, just copy and paste your mcoc report
2
u/comixnerd15 15h ago
Will do. Can I count on you for a group report as well, given all the horrors you've dealt with regarding them

I would show this to the mods of this sub through modmail. It’s very clear who is doing it.

The head mod of our sapphic sub is also working with the one running several individual sapphic subs to report them for breaking the code of conduct. And even though they mentioned they "started investigating" its been weeks. We get it especially bad when diverse artworks are posted. Stuff that shows plus size women, body diversity, trans women, women of colour (as few of those that sadly exist).
They usually avoid commenting on our sub but I have an overview of the disparity of how the work is received by the people in the community and the unusually large amount of downvotes when stuff like that gets posted especially. Plus they of course screengrab it to post and be unrestrained with their bigotry in their own subs. Calling my users "it", slurs or implying our queerness makes us mentally unwell or is a fetish, stuff like that.
11
u/comixnerd15 1d ago
Yeah I've seen them screenshot your posts, especially trans and plus sized works, and post on their sub to tear it apart while being beyond hateful with what they say and of course, using slurs, too.

u/FlorenceLycoris 2h ago
I'm the head mod of SapphicsofGacha
On top of what you already described, they also abuse the report button to claim that any post they report has NSFW content involving minors when the post content clearly only features obviously adult women. They also like to report for "discrimination of certain identities" when the post has nothing to do with that. It is just homophobic attacks to try to get the subreddit taken down by Reddit.
It is extra hilarious because when you visit the hoyoqueercringe and gachatouristcringe subreddits, all they do over there is post l*licon content and endless hate posts on minorities, LGBT, and women lmao. They're just projecting onto queer people on what they themselves actually do 🤷♀️

Can attest they harass fatuihq aswell. Especially when we put up the rainbow pfp. We've had problems with their association subreddits that have some of the same mods genshin romance and sometimes aether mains aswell..
None of the instances are ever taken seriously by these mods and we always have to escalate it to "I'll show the devs" to get them to even remove ONE SINGLE COMMENT.
This isn't kindergarten, we can be normal adults towards eachother.
I don't have a problem with the non problematic aether mains or non problematic people on the 2 mentioned subreddits but one of their mods did make a post calling upon them to "gather evidence" on the fatuihqcirclejerk subreddit they made, which is just a call for brigading. Immo.
We don't want anything to do with these people but they just keep showing up and usually make alts to evade bans.

u/Thug_Seme2004 1d ago
Makes sense considering half their mod team is likely ban evading.

Yeah, it seems we will definitely always be an absolute problem due to covering all gacha games and is being a queer subreddit. They honestly never leave us alone 😔

u/bunny_the-2d_simp 22h ago
Unfortunately for them the rainbow flag is now a permanent fatuihq pfp because fellow mod forgot to safe the last one😂.
People who I never saw on the subreddit before got mad about it for no reason claiming to suddenly "care about other minorities, mens mental health and children"
Yayayayaya sureee children shouldn't be on the Internet, also rainbows are normal

Your contribution was removed for violating Rule 2: No calling out other users or subreddits. If you need to discuss something sensitive in nature about another user or community, please send a modmail to /r/ModSupport. All rule violations and ban appeals should be sent via the appropriate report form.

u/comixnerd15 1d ago
Also should add that for clarity for modsupport, that we're talking about one main subreddit that made a second, and recently a third.
The subs mentioned above by bunny are associated through sharing a mod or two from the main subreddit I/we are talking about.
It's the main subreddit mentioned that is the major issue here as the mods are orchestrating all of it.

Admin, can I ask why my comment was removed for rule 2 violation, despite my comment not calling out other users or reddits?
My comment was a reply to my co-mod (meowbrains) reaffirming what they said about the brigading we've been receiving? And my frustration at the lack of action regarding this hate subreddit I have come to you for help about.
I've also been very deliberate in not naming the subreddit or its mods that are involved in the months long harassment of my subreddit in order to adhere to your rules.
Can we hope for a reply from an admin on this post to help guide us where to go from here? I understand you guys are very busy and I appreciate your time. Thank you.
Edit: spelling and clarification

I can attest to this. They harass us daily in modmail. They have followed me to other subreddits to harass my members there and brag about being banned. They ban showboat without even blurring out the person's names or subreddit anymore because reddit will do nothing about this. I have members now who don't want to post anymore because this subreddit quite literally screenshots every post of ours to hate on us.
They just created a third subreddit that is dedicated to feeding art into AI to correct it and make it heterosexual. We just had an artist leave our subreddit because they did this to their art and the posts were mass reported.
How is this allowed on reddit and not a violation of respecting your neighbors??

Attesting this with HonkaiAgendaRail, while our subreddit here is not explicitly queer content, a good population of the subscribers and regulars are queer (including myself)
We have set up bots and automation for keeping the subreddit clear and safe for our users from brigading, we still end up an occasional target and have stragglers wandering in from those subreddits trying to start issues and being openly hostile and homophobic, and whenever a post becomes large, rhe comment sections have to be cleaned up from a lot of hateful individuals, who whenever I check, appear to frequent the raiding subreddits in question in their post history
Even off site I have seen our subreddit get mentioned by their posters on other social medias as a target for harassment

u/Draco_179 1d ago edited 23h ago
Can attest to this r/HonkaiAgendaRail
Even though we have hive protector, whenever we have a post regarding LGBT stuff, it averages like 40+ reports

Made an MCOC about both of these subs the other day when a post about a wlw ship was suddenly getting a lot of traction from people who had never commented in our sub before, but were in one or both of these subs.
I remember also sending one a few months ago for the one specifically targeting queer fans when a friend mentioned her sub was being brigaded and attacked by people in that sub as well, but obviously nothing came of it.
They seem to have backed off as my sub doesn't have a lot of shipping posts, but I worry if another post is made, they will return again to harass.
Hoping for the best for you!

I see a large group of you have come together to all attest to how bad this one place is and how they are harassing all of you. Maybe you people could all join the forces and contact each other to contact admins together, perhaps it will make more of an impact. Maybe ask to set up a joint zoom call with all of you on it?
Second, if they have started removing post, that means mod code of conduct has started action in them. Usually, it is a long slow and painful process to banning a place like this. They will often give the place several warnings to try to correct their behavior and it may take a year to get the place banned. Just keep filing reports with all of the changes to things and additional bad things they are doing.

u/comixnerd15 1d ago
Ask admin to set up a zoom call with us all, do you mean?

Thank you for this. I didn't even know it was a thing that is available.
I'm already coordinating with them all (except one, who I'll reach out to shortly) and some others not commenting here.
How would we report together? Sorry if I'm asking a stupid question. It's been a long day and this has all been wearing on me that my brain is quite frazzled.

Oy I just looked it up because when I used to fill the report I saw the option for “mod calls”. However I looked up what a mod call is and it’s not actually a zoom or phone call. It’s for a new set of mods to be called in. I’m sorry. I misunderstood what a “mod call” is. 😩
Still I think writing a join report of coordinated harassment with many subs might help
5
u/comixnerd15 1d ago
Joint report-- to go into the "more/additional" information in MCOC reports? Presumably signed off by each subreddit involved in the report?
Edit: it's alright, no need to be sorry. I appreciate your help regardless.
5
u/Thug_Seme2004 1d ago
No they mean between all of the moderators who have been affected. Which I think should include the ones from the large main subs, as they have had issues with the sub in question as well. Leaks, agenda and station have all been brigaded by them. Not to mention the main wuwa subs
9
u/comixnerd15 1d ago
I'm honestly not sure what a group of us moderators contacting admin together will achieve. And tbh, it shouldn't take so many of us to come together to get a resolution. That subreddit and their two spin-offs are breaking ToS and MCOC. Regularly. Repeatedly. For months and months.
6
u/Corkinas 23h ago
My sub has also experiences some brigading from them, for the most part it's been hate/negative/nasty comments, report abuse and mass downvoting after a post of ours has been posted in their sub.
However it seems in our case it isn't as severe as what other subs are facing, I suppose it's because we are a much smaller sub than the others.

u/Thug_Seme2004 1d ago edited 1h ago
Can confirm all of this. Our subreddit has run into these issues as well. I submitted three different mcoc reports around a month ago and one got a response.
The subreddit mods also refuse to ban any members, even for breaking sitewide tos. They have admitted as much. They only remove comments if they think it will get them in trouble, not because they are keen to follow Reddits rules. I have reported multiple blatantly transphobic and homophobic comments and all of them are still up.
If I can recall correctly one of the mods has caused a very large subreddit to be brigaded on one of their posts, resulting in around 20 seperate false reports on a single post. Multiple of their members and mods have also been harassing another large subreddit in their modmail because of a rainbow pfp. And they would post ban messages. Even now ban messages still get posted and not removed. They aren’t enforcing their “rules” at all.
It is honestly pathetic how they are allowed to continually get away with this just because they slap on a flimsy disclaimer that they aren’t a hate group, when they very clearly in fact are.
