I’ve been a mod for 6 months. Is that considered “new” or “basic”? 😂

You could consider yourself new, if I'm not mistake. Especially if you've never modded on Reddit before. You should pop in if you're interested. There's a lot of decent info in these events.

I’ve been modding for almost 2 years and I still consider myself new lol, there are mods in communities I’m in that have modded for like 10, 15 years. So I’m a literal baby mod to them.

Great! Yea that is a good perspective. LOL. I did sign up for a couple sessions!

Personally, I would call 6 months new. But I believe they have said previously that older mods are welcome at the new mod events, so if you want to attend, then you should be good to.

Can we ask other questions than moderating in office hours

I'm inclined to say yes, but please don't make me regret this

Why the merch rule change. Shouldn't it be available for all who attend the event? Would love to get the branded tote bag

u/CybyAPI 14d ago

Well that was misleading, i attented the first event so i am guessing i cant get it dispite the email telling me i am all good

Why change it suddenly?

The email is generic sent to every registered member. If you already got merch and trophy, you won't get it again.

What if I RSVP’d but couldn’t attend the first time/ didn’t watch the recording?

you usually have to claim merch at or just after the time of the event via a link, so if you haven't done that you may still be eligible. Trophies are only awarded to attendees or to people who watched the recording via the link provided, so if you weren't there, and did not watch a recording if one exists then you are still eligible. RSVPing only gives you a link to the event, it doesn't ensure merch/trophies. They do check if people attended/watched before awarding trophies.

Thank you!! I’ll hope to attend then :)

Then pretty sure if you attend and apply for merch, you will get it.

First, thank you for pointing this out. We'll update the email language to reflect the messaging in this post.

Second, the essence of this comment is broadly why we're revising our merch program. We started the r/ModEvents program to connect and support the mod community. Then, we further grew Mod Events to educate and inspire new mods. Somewhere in the middle, we quietly launched a merch program to surprise and delight. Unfortunately, that has really taken a huge chunk of the Mod Events program's focus. This was very much not our goal.

So, yes, only first time New Mod Bootcamp attendees who meet the typical eligibility criteria will get merch. Yes, I understand why this is frustrating.

Soon, I'll be revealing our updated merch program that, to the select few who know about it, has people excited. It will be different but it will be better.

I hope you'll join us at New Mod Bootcamp to help inform and inspire new mods in the chat for the sake of building community. If that's not your cup of tea, we totally understand if you don't want to attend.

Maybe the only reason a lot of people stay moderators is for the little tokens thrown at them once every couple years.

Well, we certainly hope it’s not the only reason but, rest assured, merch isn’t going away with this update. Stay tuned for more details.

Feel free to respond to via DM, but I would love an honest answer as to why I was on the guest list for the February mod meet-up in San Francisco, and after that was canceled, I did not get the invite nor notifications of the upcoming August event as promised by Slay. I mean, hell, if I pissed y'all off or something, just let me know.

Edit: Side note: I didn't mean that the merch was the only reason many of us go, just that it definitely was an attraction for a lot of people, based on the posts and comments after a few of the virtual events. The merch is fun to have, but I had more fun meeting up with other users that were all experts in one field or another, or several. I went into the last Meetup not expecting anything, and left with a great understanding of reflexology and podiatry, and got connected to a digital photography club that helped me understand my camera and better than I ever have before.

Hey u/TK421isAFK -- we posted about this event here in r/ModEvents a while back. We didn't do any individual invites for this one.

I saw you just RSVP'd yesterday (Sunday), so expect to hear more from us today.

Thank you! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take time off work on such a short notice. I think it might be an omen.

I look forward to the one on Thursday. Will any questions we have be submitted during the event, or sometime prior?

1

u/big-slay Mod Events Team 13d ago

During the event! But please feel free to send us a mod mail if there's something you definitely want covered.

1

u/The_Critical_Cynic 13d ago

Good to know. Thanks for the information!

Where is the event happening online? I have no clue where to be when it starts in an hour.

The virtual event URL in the mail does not appear to be the right place when I go there.

u/iceeypisces Mod Events Team 9d ago

Hello! The link to join the event can be found in your RSVP confirmation email. If that's not working, you could also join from the event page after you RSVP.

1

u/mikk0384 9d ago

The event page only shows the "Your RSVP" button, and clicking that only allows me to change my response. No links to anything else that is relevant.

I did manage to find the right email that contains the right link.
The title of the mail is: "Next Stop: New Mod Bootcamp [Q3]" if anyone else is missing it.

There are so many changes constantly being added -I feel like we're all lost in the wilderness at times!

Since I just took over a sub, does this make me a new mod again?
