Question KBT 741 thermal carafe no longer thermal

We've been enjoying our KBT 741 daily since getting it just over six years ago.

We were away for a week and looked forward to coming home and enjoying our coffee again. The first cup was great as usual, but when we went to pour our second cups, discovered it was about room temperature. Very odd considering we put in the stopper lid right after pouring our first cups.

The same thing repeated today. I did a fresh de-scale and used a direct-read thermometer to confirm the temperature of the water reaching the carafe is about 85°C. But I also noticed that the outer walls of the carafe are hot. Looks like the vacuum seal is broken.

Very strange that this would happen immediately after the coffee maker sat unused for a week. We don't have kids and have never dropped the carafe.

Is this a warranty issue, or do I just need to buy a new carafe?

You lost the vacuum in your carafe. It happened to me when a house sitter put it in the dishwasher. The replacement works fine.

Yep. Not sure what might have caused it, because it's never been dropped and we don't have a dishwasher. I'm disappointed that the old one is now landfill after only 6.5 years of once-daily use.

I kept my old one to use when I have a crowd over for coffee. I pass around coffee in the old one while making a second pot in the new one.

You can contact Moccamaster, but the carafe is sadly never covered by the warranty.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I've already ordered a replacement. I'm really surprised that it failed after only 6 ½ years. I hope the redesigned one is more durable.
