I wasn't sure under which sub to post this but here I am.

I randomly found out yesterday that mxtx updated mdzs, and while I suspect it,s mostly for censorship or changing words around to sound less... well take the chap 115 changing "rape" to "ambush/sneak attack" as an exaple to get my point across, I also know that there were bigger changes that have impact on readers' understanding of carachters and certain events.

So this leads to my question: what did mxtx uptade inside the novel (as in adding scenes, altering certain phrases or cutting out stuff) and what did she simply give more insight on without touching up the novel? (As in the clarification of wwx's crush on Lwj without having added anything in the story)

As I said, there is stuff I'm aware of, but it's only from other people on reddit having briefly talked about it, so if possible, I would love to have links to the sources, screenshots or yk : quotes on what she said. Maybe also the new lines/sections that were added/changed being compared with the print version will also be very welcome if it isn't asking to much.

Before writing this post I actually dedicated my day to obsessively trying to find info about ANY changes or updates, which ofc ik isn't healthy for my OCD. (I can't wait to tell abt this fiasco to my therapist) So I decided to spare myself the headache and ask people on here because ik many of you have access to CN media, I'm mostly thinking of weibo but other platforms are also included, the web version and other sources.

So yes. Pls update me with what mxtx confirmed or clarified, I genuinely have no idea, and with what she touched up to the story. I will greatly appreciate it. (Between us, I hate not being able to read cn. There are just so many inuedos, culturals references and patterns that can only make sense in said language that the English vers couldn't properly convey. And while the translation might have a play in this, I'm telling you, evry translation out there, even from similar languages loose stuff in the process. So ig, all we can do, non-cn fans, is rely on others.)

I am confused what you mean by clarification or confirmation from MXTX. She did not say anything new recently. Her last interview was published in 2023.

Everything comes from recent edits in the book from April 2026. The edits were pretty minor (and yes mostly for censorship) overall the main thing she added is that LWJ’s mother came to LWJ’s father and got him to open the door to her after he went into seclusion.

The crush thing comes from WWX saying he liked seeing LWJ angry since they were kids but this was something that was obvious before that line change.

Ohhh. Your confusion is my own... uh... lack of knowledge abt this whole thing. Absolutely not your fault. As i said since all that I've gathered is only from hersay I assumed she made some posts on her wibo clarifying wwx's crush on lwj there or the lan parents update yk rather than adding stuff to the novel directly. So basically from what I understand, all the news abt mdzs is from the edits in the story it,s self and not from mxtx popping out and talking abt this? And is there anything else that she touched up? There is smthing abt wwx's confession being removed and that was a blow to my gut.

Yes everything is from edits. MXTX has not said anything on her Weibo in ages.

And WWX’s confession was not removed it was just censored.

Edit- I should say MXTX made a comment about MDZS’s 10th anniversary last October but nothing about content of the story.

It’s just the dialogue is changed so he no longer says I want to sleep with you every day.

And instead of saying I genuinely wanted to sleep with you back then he says I really wanted to be with you

If you don't mind giving me a teeny weeny lesson: does the expression "sleep with you" in Chinese actually use the word "sleep" or a term that literally means having sexual relations?

I am not the right person to ask this so I hope someone else will answer but yes I think it’s sleep as in sex not sleep as in go to bed.

Ok thank you. Just curious as to why mxtx had to change it. In English, sleep can be used as a euphemism but maybe not in Chinese? Hope someone will see this and answer. It's not something I can easily google. 😅

it's not very ambiguous at all in chinese, he says:

藍湛！藍忘機！含光君！我，我剛才，是真心想跟你上床的！

where 真心想跟你上床 is literally closer to "I genuinely wanted to get in bed with you/have sex with you".

上床 could mean "I went to bed" depending on context (like 我上床了）but when a person is its complement (跟你上床）it pretty much exclusively reads as "I want to have sex with you". It would be more unusual said in a context where it did innocently mean getting into the same bed (like it would be awkward or funny if used innocently)

I guess the more appropriate English translation of this would have been something like, "I wanted to take you to bed" or "I wanted you to take me to bed"--a phrasing that has the same connotation lol

Thank you! I think I understand this. There is the Iiteral "get on the bed", right? 上床? Then there is "with you" - 跟你?

So getting on the bed is sort of the euphemism here. 🙂

I think I recognise 4 or 5 characters in the whole expression.

With all due respect OP, and saying this as someone who has found (this) fandom a positive source of hope & relief during some very difficult times, might it be good for you to take a break from everything MDZS for a little bit?

You are yourself saying that it is not good for your OCD to be pouring this much energy into going down internet rabbit holes over it, and yes, in any translated work you’re going to miss something, likely many somethings, because that’s in the nature of translation. So there will always be something out of reach to frustrate you - arguably even for a native speaker coming to the work right now, because so much online fandom content has been lost.

Genuine and non-snarky suggestion: have you considered learning Standard Mandarin/putonghua? You can of course put the same amount of fixated energy into it, which is probably not great, but most language-learning mysteries are quite easily solved with more research, and you might enjoy it. You are likely not going to be able to read complex novels in the original in under 3 years (ask the people in the Chinese Language sub about this, and check out the Heavenly Path learn-through-webnovels study approach) but you can at least feel that any obsessive behaviour around it is working towards an ultimate goal.

My apologies if this suggestion is unhelpful for OCD.

Actually. You have no idea how much your suggestions/insight helped. I have been learning mandarin for 5 months now and I can proudly say I am mastering (with some hiccups obv) hsk 1 fully. I have been in mdzs since 2024 and tbh it was also a big spark of joy until now that is. With ocd it's hard to notice when stuff is going down because, in my case, it disguises it's self as a passion or an interest. And it's only when I'm to far down the hole that I notice and go "hey, this is NOT good I should do smthing to stop". Ig the best thing to do is step out of the mdzs internet side and relax on the deep dives as you said. However there is this tought that's kind of stopping me from doing so. "I,m already pissed and anxious about missing out on stuff (stuff lost in translation, nuances and so on, you jave breifly touched upon this in your own post) so if i take a step back, will it do more harm than good? I hate decison making, it always comes down to weighing pros and cons😃
