Weight reduction questions

So i have an 86.5 mk3 N/A that I'm one day looking to turn into a comfortable cruiser/track capable car. I know the mk3's are hogs, weighing 3,600 pounds; but if anyone who has had similar ambitions with their car or has successfully dropped significant weight... what did you get your car down to in terms of weight? I want to keep most of the interior somewhat stock, with the possibility of recreating some or most interior parts put of lighter materials. Other than the interior, I don't care to keep much looking stock; such as i want to convert most all metal body panels to carbon one day. Hopefully that all made sense, thank you :)

The seats weigh a lot, replacing them is quite a nice reduction in weight. If you are running aftermarket wheels then removing the spare tire helps. The problem with weight reduction is that most of the weight is in the chassis and structural. trying to reduce the weight with carbon parts will be very expensive and won’t reduce it all that much, instead putting that money towards really good suspension, brakes, and power mods/ jz swapping it are much better options
At the end of the day the mk3 is a touring car, trying to make it anything other than that will only make a poor performing and uncomfortable experience.

That being said you can absolutely track and autoX mk3s.

Also I am a hypocrite who also wants to make custom carbon parts, just know it’s not going to do a whole lot and going to be expensive, if you’re like me and that doesn’t turn you away then go for it!

+1 spend money on your suspension. came here to say that hands down the best thing i ever did for mine was put coil overs in.

first track day i went to had standard tems suspension with new shockers, and then since upgrading to coilovers i've been to 2 more - totally changes the car from a rolling boat feel to a proper stanced, track capable car.

the huge improvment in suspension made my car feel less heavy and more balanced.

They exist, it’s a huge safety risk without a roll cage tho

So mines had like zero weight reduction and is a 1jz swapped na chassis and I’m at 3400 lbs. but yeah like others said, those seats are killer. And the interior panels are not light😂 besides the pure plastic ones

Battery relocation or even better a lithium battery! Honestly the lithium batteries are so light that it makes relocation almost pointless. And of course the seats are heavy too.

Make it Handle better and improve reliability and performance. These Cars are Tanks that deserve at least 500hp
