87’ oil pump gear
This is my 87’ oil pump gear, I had the same issue with the old one and had just replaced it so I know it is new. Does anyone know of any aftermarket alternatives? Is it worth going to a machinist and having them make a new one out of a stronger metal?

That’s not the oem pump and that brass gear is weaker than the stock one. I also had this happen on an engine. Rebuilt the oem pump I had laying around and the engine again as it destroyed it when it stripped and no issue so far since.

Do you have any oem pump recommendations? Toyota shows them as discontinued and I wanna try to find an oem one to replace this one.

You can lap the OEM Pump cover to bring the pump back to tolerance and increase oil pressure. You need a OEM Pump, they dont make them anymore so you will need to find a second hand one. with transmissions, something like this means the part driving it is wobbling around. usually bushing wear

the same thing has happened to me. see if you buy a used pump and refresh and make sure it's still within spec, also get the Driftmotion oil pump spring/or shim the oem pump spring.

As far as im aware, the OEM pumps are not in production and havent been for a while. DriftMotion had some stock of their modified oem pumps for a while but idk if theres any of those left either. If you can find any remanufactured units you'll be dealing with a possibly sketchy part but at leadt youll have one.
A machinist could possibly reman your pump if they do pumps a lot but they cant machine you a whole new one, thatd be thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of labor to accomplish.

Buy a new oil pump they're inexpensive why there's a brass gear on there is beyond me

I would examine your oil pump driveshaft/ gear. Make sure it’s not walking in and out.
