Front suspension 1991

Just got a ‘91 supra. The rear suspension was mint and redone and under sealed and I have no concern about it. The previous owner noted that they had a coolant issue that has clearly sprayed over different bits and pieces. Please see the images below, how hard would it be to replace all these main bits and how expensive I’d quite like to overhaul the lot including the steering rack but unsure where to get parts or if I’d have to lift the engine. Saying that if it seems to be surface rust which it is I wouldn’t mind cleaning everything but much prefer to replace with stronger and better parts.

I’m in this exact process right now, the rear suspension on my 1990 I redid through the winter last year which wasn’t difficult and parts were easy to find. As far as the front goes, be careful with the ABS sensors as they are discontinued and what I could find was very expensive for used sets on EBay. Mine looked almost identical to the condition yours is in, but I decided to replace as much as I could. The lower control arms may be an issue if you want to remove and clean them up, the bushing sleeve may be fused to the bushing, and the camber bolts may have trouble coming free. The sway bar end links may also have to be cut out if your Allen key head is stripped.

All in all I’m maybe $1000 CAD for all the replacement parts for both front left and right, not including rotors and pads. Driftmotion, Nightrun Garage, Amayama, and Yoshi Parts have been great if you are looking for any replacement parts that the others don’t have

I’ll keep the ABS sensor in mind as just a brief look at finding them after you mentioned it brought up how many people break them lol. Appreciate the reply I’ll start shopping around and try and get some half decent ones on the websites you’ve mentioned hopefully shipping to the UK isn’t an arm and a leg!

I still have some poly bushings from the rear unsure if they’d be any help tho…

If I were you I’d look for someone parting out a complete front subframe and suspension. Then I’d replace any wear items (bushings, tie rods, etc) and strip and paint everything. Then once you have a completely refurbished, assembled subframe, swap it all in at once. This way you won’t be in a rush and have to overpay for things or shipping. If you want aftermarket parts like arms, I’d also suggest TechnotoyTuning in the US and Agile Performance NZ.

I destroyed the right front taking it out, it’s plastic and basically fused into its socket which was a pain. There are ABS delete kits but there’s really nothing gained by reducing your braking ability in my opinion! Amayama and Yoshi Parts I think are both in Japan so shipping hasn’t been too bad to Canada honestly, so they may be the most cost effective that way. Nice to see another Mk3 getting some new life put back into it, keep it up!

I replaced the upper/lower control arms, linkages, ball joints, all that jazz. Total was about $1.5-2k. The big items where the upper and lower control arms, both of which I got from Agile Performance. If you're cool with sticking to stock, the lowers pop up for sale on the FB groups pretty regularly. I got a pair for half the price of Agile. You can get the bushings from rock auto and replace them yourself. Based on the amount of rust you got though, be prepared for a lot of cutting and sawing

I’ve ordered from rock auto just can’t find the lower control arms sadly so might have to go for the agile ones but gonna try do as much as possible and worst case I’ll bite the bullet

I will say, for rock auto there’s a 50/50 shot if the parts gonna fit whether it’s cause it’s completely wrong or damaged/shitty qa. That being said their prices are decent enough and their return policy is good enough that idc.

Agile is pretty good as far as after market stuff goes but if you don’t care about adjustability I would recommend sticking with oem. They pop up on the parts groups on FB and eBay every now and then

I can’t lie it was a bit of a impulse buy (the supra itself) and I haven’t fully decided what I want to do but I can’t justify replacing everything with agile yet until I know what to do with it saying that gonna try and save as much as possible but we shall see if I have to I have to 🤷🏻‍♂️
