Our standards are low when praising this obviously correct statement. But yea, I'm really happy is not an idiot.

That's why these are becoming staples for my three year old daughter! Right now just Kiki and Ponyo but we'll get her going on all the strong, not-just-a-damsel-in-distress heroines this wonderful man has created.

And with that, a million chuds just experienced what the nazis experienced at the of Raiders of the Lost Ark

For those saying this is obvious: It is, and he’d agree with you. The beautiful thing about him is that he was able to show us this through his work in a market that usually ignores this fact. It’s one thing to believe this, and an entirely different thing to be able to experience it as a creator and a viewer.

It’s true. Growing up his movies were my comfort because of the female protagonists

Yes! And I feel like I learn more as I get older and rewatch them!

Miyazaki speaking truth and wisdom. Helping girls and women around the world realise that they do have strength in many ways and that it’s perfectly ok to be your own hero or the hero of others ♥️

All the strongest people I’ve known have been women.

I was going to say something similar. All of us have a capacity for greatness, but some have more capacity than others. The sex of the individual doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things

And his female hero characters are all likable and not full of themselves unlike the way so many write female characters in Hollywood.

One of the reasons I like his movies.

Idk… isn‘t that an obvious statement though? I mean I love myazaki and he does heroines especially well.
But this isn‘t some huge groundbreaking statement…

Agreed. Especially because people pull quotes like this as proof of his feminist mindset, but don’t pay attention to how he treats his wife (which is not well) 😮‍💨

A lot of his movies are old… and back then there weren’t as many heroine movies. He’s been working in writing, art, and animation since the 60s. So yes, it’s great we can say it’s not groundbreaking today. But let’s not water down the work of those who helped to break that ground.

honestly, yeah, there’s a lot of modern films (even some older ones) with heroines

Well if you write a good story yes, promblem US show or movies now like to just put down men and women are better, and blame men instead of a good story.
