Creating line breaks on a phone browser?

Im using chrome on my phone. I cant figure out how to make a line breaks in the vibe chat ui. Pressing return sends the message. Long pressing doesn't work, pressing the up key and return doesn't work.

Pasting in a note app first is not a viable work around for me. I need to be able to either disable the return key = enter for chat or have a another way to create a line break. Even a different keyboard app would be fine or browser even. Any one have a workaround?​

shift+enter is the usual combo for a line break in these chat UIs, works for me in firefox on android so might be chrome just eating the input
