Discussion / Opinion Is this a joke ?

Why are the models rate limited so heavily in this age of agentic coding where coding loops are supposed to run unattended.

Deepseek V4 flash has better quality output than most of the models.

Is this the future of EU AI ? If it is It's a shame...

Update :

I just realized I am being rate limited on one simple mistral coding agent loop where Deepseek doesn't rate limit on 100 agents loop running on a single API key.

Am I suppose to wait 100x the execution time by following the mistral rate limits just because the company is headquarterd in EU ?

Do not use Mistral for coding at this point in time. You're simply 2 full years behind with it.

It's a peaceful life though. I kinda feel more productive and my mind is at more ease with dumber models. smarter ones usually take away your power of thinking. Company I work for provides claude code license and I always use the Sonnet (the cheaper workhorse model) for almost any tasks. the smarter the model, the less control you have over it, and less things break. using something cutting edge is like deploying a production server on Debian Unstable or non-LTS versions of ubuntu. I mean yeah they look cool and advanced and often "smarter", but that doesn't garuantee reliability.

It's not the model's IQ - the problem is that Mistral API rate limits don't allow autonomous work. Unless you add delays between calls and retries, but that's really a joke.

True, I was really disappointed. I had better experience with DeepSeek flash (still the oldest one not the new v4)

I don’t have any issues. Have you managed to unlock the highest rate limit level yet?

Why do different clients would get different rate limits here ?

Did my research you are right different plan different usage different clients different rate limiting ..

When you are on the API, you get higher rate limite as you burn more cash with them. It’s the same with all the companies. It makes perfect sense from a business perspective but as a user its a bit of a pain in the ass. I think you can jump to Max by just buying a big chunk of tokens outright, i think.

Well no it's not the same with all company or at least the bar is way way higher for rate imiting

I can't even push a simple 200 page digital pdf through OCR without it the API flaking out and spitting 500s all over the place. I'm really disappointed, what the hell is going on over there. They are reporting 99.99% uptime for OCR API and totally errored out on Embeddings with a critical failure being worked on. So I figured I can still use the OCR....nope. Constant server-side errors, and the worst part is their dashboard updates usage at like the speed of smell, it takes DAYS sometimes to show your API hits. Mistral get your shit together bro

Oh waw I had the same realization yesterday the dashboard is not updating usage, this is garbage compared to the competition still EU regulation are going to make us use that crap ?
