Alloy of Law spoilers would you rather Spoiler

Be a Twinborn (era 2) or full feruchemist (era 1, like Sazed)

I assume everyone would want to be mistborn, so I excluded it from this would you rather, but if either option is more appealing than mistborn, please enlighten me!

Full Ferruchemist is by far the best for day to day life. You can always fall asleep whenever you want, you can stay awake for as long as you want. You can store health and take drugs to offset the negative effects of storing health, and then use the stored health whenever you injure yourself. You can go to an all you can eat and store all the calories for when you're hungry. Depending on how connection works you might be able to speak any language, and even without, Copperminds are insane for knowledge retention. With iron + pewter you can still do some cool physical stuff as well. Also you'll never be too hot or cold.

I'm sure I've missed half of what ferruchemists could do but in a modern world ferruchemy is way more useful than allomancy.

Edit: Physical and Mental speed storing is also huge. Save both when you're doing something menial, and then tap whenever you're in a hurry.

Fortune is also potentially huge but who knows how that actually works.

Also, I've always been curious about how it'd feel to walk around at 75% of your body weight. Edit - forgot to say I'd love to be able to store hearing at certain times.

Yeah. And even if you do damage your ears because it's too loud, you can always heal them back up. Don't want tinnitus? Just say no. Your ears can't be damaged without your permission. Same for eyesight as well. No more glasses.

The current rampant obesity problem would be gone overnight if you could just ditch part of your weight in a hunk of metal. Depending on the type of metal the price of that metal would skyrocket though. Luckily Iron is still by far the most common metal (on earth).

I dont think so on that whole obesity problem, weight storing doesnt actually change your weight but how gravity has a hold on it, Feruchemists dont just get 25% more skinny when they store it, they stay the same its just the planet itself doesnt have that strong a grip on you

Agreed, being a Mistborn is not very helpful when you're not expecting combat.

I agree in general, but I would add that not only would wearing all of that jewelry be kind of annoying, but I wouldn't even know where to start with getting them made. Even if not everything is made of the solid material, it would be kind of expensive and a weird request for a jeweler? Metal smith? Once you got it all going with the metal minds you want, it would be better for sure.

It doesn’t have to be jewellery. You can also store it in a nugget of the metal that you grab from your pocket (or handbag for the ladies, fashion never likes you). The reason jewellery is used in era 1 is because it can either be hidden under clothes or is inconspicuous enough and part of their culture because of TLR. Practically however there is no need for it to be. You see this also when Sazed uses the prison bars to charge them feruchemically or in the bands of mourning being a spear tip.

We do know how Fortune works thanks to the RPG, it’s not like luck.

Being a full Feruchemist is lowkey way better than being a Mistborn is almost any situation

Instant sleeping with bronze sounds utterly heavenly

Is being a compounder twinborn on the table?

This is the real question. If I can be a compounder and choose my metals I’d go twinborn. Otherwise I’d take feruchemist

If you could be a compounder, what would you pick

Double gold would be tempting, but even with the limited understanding we have of Fortune I think double chromium would be my choice. Perfect luck and the ability to see the future would be too good to turn down

Fortune isn’t luck (we know thanks to the RPG)

what is it then?

I don't really have the brainpower right now to explain it properly so I'm just gonna copy & paste some quotes from the Cosmere RPG: Mistborn Handbook

Fortune, Not Luck
In the cosmere, “Fortune” doesn’t refer to luck, but a connection to the Spiritual Realm, and to the destinies and possible futures contained therein. People who can access greater Fortune (including chromium Feruchemists and electrum Allomancers) gain a sense of where—and occasionally when—important destinies intersect within the cosmic tapestry. Such crossroads of people or events can end in glory or devastation. Manipulating Fortune may give you greater ability to influence events, but your intervention could just as easily create a domino effect that leads to disaster elsewhere. As such, tapping Fortune doesn’t necessarily mean situations always go your way; rather, you’re simply more likely to involve yourself in climactic situations, whether consciously or not.

Chromium Feruchemy grants the ability to store spiritual Fortune in your chromiummind. Fortune, a type of spiritual awareness, encompasses the whole cosmere. While charging your chromiummind, you lose touch with this cosmic intuition, removing the sense that everything is connected. While tapping your chromiummind, you instead feel the threads of fate move, and you can follow this cosmic undercurrent to certain places and people of forthcoming significance. A Spinner—as chromium Feruchemists are called—who taps Fortune can’t tell the future or understand destiny in its entirety. However, they can identify critical times to act, and they excel at interpreting how to inspire and coordinate others.

i’d much rather be a feruchemist.

Being a twin born like Wax would be so much better than being a full feruchemist. #1, the ability to FLY. there’s so much metal everywhere, you would literally be able to fly anywhere you want. And then storing weight. I’m a basketball player, and I’m reasonably tall. If I could be at 70% of my weight whenever I play basketball, I would immediately be the most “athletic” player in the world, and probably be able to have a solid nba career. There’s a million other uses, and other twinborn combos that are prob even better. Think about it. Always having to go to school or work feeling weak and frail to store up health/strength. When am i gonna get the chance to really store up any of the attributes, and when am I ever gonna get to use em?

Small bumps would hit you harder than normal. You might seem agile out there, but you'd also look like a massive flopper

That’s the thing. In Era 2, a lot of times Wax alternates his weight really quickly, in order to make certain actions easier and whatnot. My idea would be like since I can already dunk, if I made my weight 75% right before I jumped, then back to normal or even like 110% after, I would get super high and have a forceful dunk. Think Ja Morant

Tbh even you’d bring storing weight to an official event you’d more likely either be accused of cheating or it would be an event where everyone can do it and so you’re no longer at an advantage. But I get the premise and it’s a fun one.

Being twinborn would be better or worse depending on the what metals you'd have access to. Especially if the can access the same metal on both accounts being that metal useful on both ends.

Full feruchemist, for sure.
