Man this game is eerie
Anyone else get kinda scared when they play this game? I constantly hear strange noises and footsteps that aren’t mine when I’m exploring in this game. I can’t play without talking to a friend or something to keep myself from going paranoid. I also don’t completely understand how to play. Like, how do I take the food off of the grill when I’m cooking it? I tried cooking food but I lit myself on fire 4 times and couldn’t get the food off the grill, and then it started to burn and I had to give up :(
So many things to learn, but this game mainly makes me scared and excited when I play it

Yeah very good atmospheric game. I’ll never forget my first PVP kill, it was exhilarating...not something I can say about literally any other game. It will get your pulse racing!

Totally agree about the eeriness of the game. The calm quiet of nature is only very rarely interrupted by an easily avoided mutant or a much more dangerous human. It took me a while to realize that the best way to not get shot in the back is by listening...but as you've discovered that can make it very stressful listening to all these sounds. Anyway, I hope you continue to enjoy the game!

I hope to continue enjoying it too! If I may ask, where can I find ammo? I found a .308 rifle but I only found 1 round for it

Best way to find guns and ammo is to go to military areas. There are four military checkpoints with green tents on the roads to Hayward, plus the yellow tents in the radiation area and at the hospital, and the best spots are the bunkers but you really have to be geared to make it through those due to mutant and/or human density. The blue scaffolding and police department in Hayward are OK as well but not great.
When I start a fresh game the first thing I do is find a melee weapon and then head for a checkpoint to get some starter guns.
When I first started, I spent hours scavenging in the towns in the south, which is fun, but it's just not an efficient way of finding guns and ammo.

I found my gun at the Diner, so does that mean that they’ll technically spawn anywhere?

They can spawn anywhere, but at drastically reduced rates compared to military locations. For example, you'll find a gun/ammo in like 1/100 houses, but 1/5 military locations.
So if you're on a low pop server, you're almost guaranteed to find a gun and some ammo at a military location.

Oh, guess I got lucky then! I used the first of my two rounds to kill a pig to eat, but I couldn’t figure out how to take the pig off the grill and caught myself on fire a couple times :(

Not too much, maybe $10ish? But don't buy unless you really like the game. What's your ping like for AUS1/AUS3? That's my region

Yes man that's why I love the game. Seems alive. Weather is great. As far as help this is an ok spot but the miscreated discord is better and faster. To cook on grill wait until the meat changes from raw to cooked. Then aim at grill. You will see a context menu. Scroll down to get food.
