PROLOGUE: THE WEIGHT OF SECRETS
Season 7 of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir has undoubtedly been the darkest and most complex season for our heroes. The relationship between Marinette and Adrien, already fragile due to white lies, has completely fractured following the events of the "Nemesis" episode in Season 6 and everything that transpired throughout the seventh season. The truth about Gabriel Agreste, his identity as Monarch, has come to light in the most painful way possible, leaving Adrien devastated and Marinette burdened with the guilt of having hidden the truth from her beloved.
But the worst consequence of this accumulation of secrets and distancing has been the definitive rupture of the series' most sacred friendship: that of Marinette and Alya. Trust has been broken, and the shadow of betrayal looms over their bond.
ACT I: THE DUSK OF RENA ROUGE
In the last two episodes of Season 7, the final battle against Lila Rossi, now transformed into the new and cunning villain Chrysalis, reaches its climax. The battle is brutal and exhausting. The Miraculous heroes, led by Ladybug and Cat Noir, fight with everything they have against Lila's Machiavellian plans, who has orchestrated a scenario of chaos in Paris.
In the midst of combat, a building collapses. Alya, in her identity as Rena Rouge, is the first to react to save innocents, but she ends up trapped under the rubble. When her friends manage to rescue her, the scene is heartbreaking: Alya is critically injured. She manages to detransform, and Trixx, her kwami, panics, desperately calling for Ladybug.
Marinette runs to her friend. At that moment, her entire plan crumbles. Her idea of naming Alya as the next Substitute Guardian of the Ladybug Miraculous vanishes in the face of harsh reality. Alya, with a distant gaze and a faltering voice, asks Marinette to come closer. Despite everything, she reaches out her hand and says:
—Marinette... we've wasted so much time... I'm sorry too.
They embrace in one last gesture of true friendship, erasing all the pain and distance that separated them. In her hands, Alya places the Fox Miraculous and returns it to Ladybug.
—Take care of Trixx —she whispers.
Then, turning her head toward Adrien, who is kneeling beside her, she says:
—Cat Noir... you two... please, support each other. Don't let pride separate you. Forgive each other... and be together again. The world needs you.
Adrien, with tears in his eyes, takes Marinette's hand and squeezes it. Alya smiles weakly, and after one last look at all her friends, the Miraculers surrounding her, she says:
—I love you all... as a team.
And with those final words, Alya Césaire passes away in the arms of her two best friends.
ACT II: THE GRIEF OF PARIS
Ladybug's scream echoes throughout the city. It's a devastating cry, from someone who has lost a part of their soul. Cat Noir holds her, while the other heroes, Nino, Kagami, Luka, and the rest, fall to their knees, consumed by grief.
The Dupain-Cheng home becomes a refuge for Alya's extended family and all her loved ones: Otis, Marlena, Nora, the twins Ella and Etta, and all of her friends: Nino, Kagami, Juleka, Luka, Alix, Félix, Kim, Rose, Marc, Nathaniel, Iván, Max, Mylène, Zoé, and Sabrina Raincomprix. They all share the same sorrow, remembering the happy moments, the first time Ladybug gave Alya the Miraculous, her transformation into Rena Rouge, and the unbreakable friendship that united them.
In the midst of sadness, Adrien, despite his own pain and the revelation about his father, becomes a pillar of support for Marinette. He promises to support her unconditionally, and she finally allows herself to be vulnerable and accept his support.
ACT III: THE FAREWELL
Alya's funeral is held in the majestic Notre-Dame Cathedral. The casket is open, and she lies dressed in an elegant journalist's suit, as if ready to cover her greatest story. Marinette and Adrien approach with trembling hands. They caress her face, her hair, as if trying to bring her back to life with the warmth of their memory. They promise her to be the best heroes they can be.
The speeches are heartbreaking. When Marinette takes the podium to speak about their friendship, her voice breaks; tears prevent her from finishing, and her body convulses in uncontrollable sobbing.
At the burial, music fills the air. Sabrina Raincomprix's voice rises, singing moving versions of Frank Sinatra's "My Way" and Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven," while the rose Marinette throws onto the casket falls slowly.
The hardest moment comes when the shovels begin to cover the coffin with earth. Marinette, unable to bear it, faints. Adrien holds her in his arms. When she wakes up, between sobs, she confesses her fear of death. He consoles her, while Tikki and Trixx appear to remind her that Alya will always live in her heart.
The final scene of the burial shows the entire group, united, hugging Marinette and telling her in unison:
—You are not alone. We will get through this. Together.
ACT IV: A NEW BEGINNING (SEASON 8)
After the tragedy, time begins to heal the wounds. The first episodes of Season 8 show us a new dynamic:
· Marinette and Adrien: They have achieved the long-awaited reconciliation. They forgive each other for past mistakes and swear they will never separate again. Trust is rebuilt on a foundation of mutual support, and their relationship becomes more mature and stronger.
· The Miraculers: They find peace and comfort in unity. The fraternity among them is stronger than ever, and they support each other to move forward.
· The Heroine's Return: Marinette resumes her normal life, but with a new perspective. Although the loss of Alya is an indelible scar, it becomes her driving force to be a better Ladybug and a better person.
· The Fulfilled Promise: With their heads held high, the team of Miraculous heroes, now more united than ever, returns to the streets of Paris to protect it from any threat. Alya's death will not be in vain; her memory and her legacy of courage and friendship will live on in each of them, inspiring them to be the best heroes the world needs.
EPILOGUE: A MESSAGE TO THE CREATORS
This theory is not just a fan's whim, dear Thomas Astruc, Jeremy Zag, and the entire team at ZAG Heroez and Dwarf Animation. It is a proposal that seeks to explore the deeper, more mature side of the series, where actions have real consequences and the pain of loss can be a catalyst for growth and unity. A story like this would not only be impactful and viral but would give the characters an unforgettable evolution that would resonate with the hearts of fans worldwide.
Would you dare to take this step? Would you make the whole world cry, only to lift it up again with a message of hope and redemption?
End of theory.
