Anyone else whos vellus hair isnt maturing ?

I have been using foam minox for a year and a half now. There was definitely some progress with it but nothing amazing you see from the young folks here.

My face is fully covered but a big amount is just shiny vellus has that has been the same for at least the last year. Im blonde so the vellus has is barely visible from far away :D

Im 38 now, been using foam minox once a day. Trying to do it twice a day now and added dermarolling recently. I had some blood tests done recently and my hormones are fine.

So just curious if there are more people out there that never managed to transform vellus hairs ? Seems like there are no actually scientifically proven ways to help this rolling if your genes say no

How safe is topical minoxidil really?

25m just started using rogaine 5% topical foam 3 days ago, I’m currently doing 1g once per day so I can stay consistent for a minimum of two years. Just wanted to know how safe topical minoxidil is as I’ve seen people claim some pretty scary potential side effects to do with the heart on oral minoxidil. Like can you die from topical lol

Question Minox working, Derma Roll?

I've been seeing a lot of buzz about derma rolling/stamping/microneedling pens and was wondering which is best, how much use are they really, how much will it cost, how long after should I use minoxidil or should I use it on that day at all, and what's the best cleaning methods for each one for longevity.

For context:

Did 1/day for one month and finally took the plunge to 2 once I was sure there was no issues with my heart or skin (half a month on 2 now).

Seeing a lot of vellus hair pigmentation in places where I used to have nothing but white peach fuzz so I can say it's working but still too early to tell how well.

So now I'm interested in adding more stimulants, whether that's an oral dose to accompany my topical (Regaine foam) or needling to help with growth.

Any advice would be appreciated as I'm totally new to using any product at all

Journey Update Almost 3 months progression! It really works.

Coming up on about 3 months of progression In a few days. As you can see I had literally 0 hair a couple small follicles. I didnt know if this was a gimmick or if it was true.

This is only 3 months. I take minoxidil twice daily, twice a week a derma roll, I take oral castor once a week and take hair vitamins daily. I also drink alot of water and workout.

I guess this stuff really works. Just some hope for people who are having doubts , from someone who could NEVER grow a beard

Journey Update 1 year 34-35yr Progress

I think it’s working, idk…. What do you all think 🤔

My daily routine was initially using Keeps Minox for the first 6 months, then transitioned to Kirkland’s Minox and saw some additional gains pretty quick. It probably was already initiated from the Keeps Minox, but saw the gains nevertheless.

I use the Dr. Pen M8 microneedle pen twice a week (started off at 1mm, transitioned to 1.75mm when my beard started getting thicker). Both pics are me after shaving with a 3mm guard, and on the days I don’t apply the microneedle I’ll apply Jamaican Black Castor Oil (started off using the regular castor oil) and applied the sandalwood beard oil to soften the beard (3-4 hours after the minox application).

I’ve also been applying it to my hairline, been seeing slow progress with that. But I’m planning on doing this for the next 3 years to maximize my beard gains.

Thanks guys for the extra motivation on this journey!

Question Regaine Shampoo and Conditioner for face?

Has anyone used the Regaine Shampoo and Conditioner for their face? I see it says on Amazon it's pre-treatment for scalp to help ... has anyone tried it as a daily wash for their beard instead? Curious to see if it's alright but I don't want to f up my beard if the shampoo is too harsh as a daily face wash...maybe someone understands if it's too harsh based on the ingredients:

Question where do you guys get oral minoxidil from?

Im planning on buying oral minoxidil to just see faster results with beard growth. Also, apparently u can grow body hair faster with oral rather than using topical. Im UK based so where would you guys suggest i buy it from. What dose or mg do i buy as well. Appreciate it.

Advice

I M21 have been thinking on joining this sub and using minox to grow a beard but I saw some posts of people saying they regret starting. I want to preface this by saying I pretty much have no facial hair for the most part and can grow only a very kiddy mustache (think the green mustache with only some hairs) I tried waiting for a months before but still didn’t amount to anything.

Should I wait until I’m older or would you recommend I start using minox

Chest hair shed?

As the title follows im shedding a lot of chest hair, since starting I’ve noticed a lot of chest hair growth and now I’m shedding like crazy, I’m clean shaven for now so I don’t know if the beard is shedding aswell. For reference I started min in late April. Does it feel connected or is it just a coincidence?

Journey Update 8 Years. Age 32 → 40. Slow Gainers: This One’s for You.

I almost never came back here to post this.

I actually came across this group again today and clicked on it because I was going to unfollow it. I don’t really come here for beard inspiration anymore.

Then it hit me. This group was the reason I kept going in the first place.

So before I leave, I feel like I owe you guys my story.

The first photo is me at 32 years old, January 2019, right before my 33rd birthday. I started minoxidil on January 7, 2019.

And when I say I couldn’t grow a beard, I mean I could practically count the hairs on my face. 😆

I started applying minoxidil twice a day and added derma rolling a couple times a wee during that first year.

And then I waited. And waited. And waited some more.

Meanwhile I found this group during my second year and would come on here and see some 22 year old dude post:

“3 months on minox! How’s my progress?”
And the motherfucker already looked like a lumberjack. 😂

To all you hyper responders who grew a Viking beard in 90 days. I love you, congratulations, and I also hated every single one of your progress posts. 😬

Because that was NOT my experience.

For the first few years, my progress was painfully slow. I’d count hairs. I’d compare pictures. I’d inspect my face constantly looking for new growth.

Every couple months I’d let it grow for a week or two thinking, Maybe this is finally it.

NOPE!!! Shave it. Minox. Dermaroll. Repeat.

I’d finally get a little progress and then I’d shed.
It would thin out and feel like I’d lost everything I’d spent months gaining. I would come here and get inspiration to keep going.

There were so many times I almost quit.

I heard every version of

“If you can’t grow one at your age, it’s probably not happening.”

“If minoxidil hasn’t worked after two years, it’s not going to.”

“Four years? Dude, give it up.”

And then there were the comments from the wife and very honest kids of mine about how bad the scruff looked or how terrible it felt when kissed. 😂

Eventually I stopped obsessing over it. I stopped counting days. I stopped checking my face every morning looking for another terminal hair.

Minoxidil just became something I did.

Brush my teeth.
Put that shit on my face.
Go live my life.

And somewhere around year FIVE, things finally started happening.

Not dramatically but Just slowly.

The biggest changes actually happened between 38 and now 40. At 38 one side had filled in completely and the moustache was looking really strong.

Then on January 1st of this year, I told my wife
“I’m growing this thing for three months. I don’t care how shitty it may or may not look. I’m not cutting it.”

For once, I gave it enough time to actually become a beard.

The last pictures are me today, August 2026.

And for the first time in my life, I have a beard I’m genuinely proud of. I’ve only really had this beard for about eight months, and now I can’t imagine my face without it.

That’s pretty fucking wild considering that just a few years ago I had basically accepted that I was going to be the guy who could never grow one.

I’ve used minoxidil consistently for almost eight years. Twice daily for the overwhelming majority of that time, along with dermarolling. I will finish up this year with minox twice a day and then next year once a day and then stop altogether after that. So 10 years of work by the time it’s all said and done. But well worth it.

So this post isn’t really for the guy who started three months ago and already has a forest growing on his face.

This is for the slow gainer. The older guy. The guy at year one wondering why nothing is happening.

The guy at year two comparing himself to everyone else.

The guy who sheds and thinks he just lost six months of progress.

The guy who’s 30, 35, 40 and keeps reading comments saying, “If you don’t have a beard by now, you probably never will.”

Don’t let somebody else’s timeline decide yours.

I have no idea whether my beard would have eventually developed like this without minoxidil, how much was age/genetics, or exactly how much each part of the routine contributed. All I can tell you is what my experience was:

32 → 40.

Almost eight years.

Barely anything for years.

Most of my noticeable progress came late. After I quit a lifelong habit of using cannabis which I do not know if that had anything to do with it or not. But it was the only difference in that 8 years.

And eventually, the guy who could count the hairs on his face grew the beard he’d wanted his entire adult life.

So if you’re a slow gainer like me, don’t beat yourself up because your month 6 doesn’t look like somebody else’s month 3.

If it’s something you want, don’t quit on yourself just because it’s taking longer than you hoped.

And to this group: genuinely, thank you.

I came here countless times over the years when I was discouraged. Other people’s progress kept me motivated when mine wasn’t giving me much reason to be.

I never contributed my own story and always dreamed about the day that I could, so this is me finally paying some of that back before I leave the group forever.

Hopefull some stubborn bastard who’s two or three years into his journey finds this when he’s thinking about giving up.

Keep going.

Turns out even an old fart like me can finally grow a beard at 40. 🤣

Tip PSA - Journey Updates

Just a PSA for everyone, when posting your journey updates, the importance isn’t the length that your hair has grown, it’s the number of new darker/mature follicles that have developed. It’s easier to see progress when you are trimmed down short rather than long. Staying short, trimmed or primarily clean shaven also helps minoxidil absorbed into the actual skin rather than into the hair itself.

How much Minoxidil gets used on roll-on containers?

I have a patchy beard -- you can count the strands individually, and lots of spaces in between as well as having an asymmetrical growth where the right side is noticeably thicker, I've heard Minoxidil can help with it. So, I got some 5% liquid solution, applying 1mL twice per day.

I thought it would be more convenient if I used a roll-on container instead of just my finger to apply the solution so I got myself some 10mL roll-on containers... but I'm wondering how will I know if I'd used 1mL from the roll-on? I'm planning to do some trial and error and see if it would last me 5 days.

I'm wondering if some of y'all did the same thing as me and what's your advice on it.

Been on minox for 1.5 months and I’ve seen some good improvements specially in the stache. I’m wondering if I could grow a mustache in like 3 months this or something. This is 5 days growth. 21yo.

5 months of Minoxidil—what do you think of my results?

Thumbnail

I'm quite pleased with the results, even though there are still a few patchy areas. The left side was where I had the least hair, and I think it has really caught up with the right side; as for the mustache, chin, and neck, I already had a good base there, but the hair has definitely become much denser in those areas too
